For the tips, i can't think of any really, i haven't been playing for 2 years yet and don't even have my own kit, but apperently i have a natural talent. So all i can tell you really is to practice and, it may sound dumb but while listening to your MP3 or whatever, do some air drum to the songs you know. I always do that and i learn lots of songs that way, i just practice them on a real kit before recording them ;)
