  • This was so much better live when I had first ever heard the song. I don't think I like the original.

As for the people who say this is the best he's done, that's bull feces. But feel free to choose from Naked As We Came, Each Coming Night, or Jezebel.

  • Why does

    love hurt so bad?

  • what's with all the noobs saying this is the best song they've ever heard? did you just discover iron & wine yesterday or something? naked as we came is still a lot better.

  • @hazmat151 What's with all the noobs having their own opinions? Who does that, right?

  • The second verse stops me in my tracks...everytime.

  • i love this song!! and the movie!

  • I love listening to iron and wine when I'm riding a bicycle..... iron and wine on an ipod and a bicycle is the perfect combination.

  • I think this song has been floating around for some time now ... like an eon or something similar. This song is an emotion in music that I cannot name ...like he pulled it out of the air and gave it a kiss

  • Great!

    I love this song!

  • Lovely song. People have said some of our music sounds like Iron & Wine, can't see it myself but I'm not complaining, He is very good :-) follow the link to Antiqcool and Judge for yourself.

  • I just heard this song through the wall of my apartment. Very nice song. A good way to spend 10 minutes!

  • thats awesome. i recall finding things like that. like money in a winter jacket? kind of

  • @theugene I usually hear really bad (by my tastes anyway) country music. Yes. The analogy is sound!

  • @Giefan I'd say its more indie with a southern flair, but to each their own. Never-the-less, its still an amazing song.

  • i've always loved this song

  • Love that bass line.

  • im a spanish speaker.. and i wish to know an hispanic singer as good as sam bean is

  • sam beam. god's gift to the world.

  • great song.. check out my cover... its fast and folky... let me know what you think

  • This song is great, and will be played at my funeral.

  • How many albums does he have? Im having trouble finding any

  • LP's: The Creek Drank the Cradle, Our Endless Numbered Days, The Shepherd's Dog, Around the Well (b-sides), Norfolk (live), plus some decent EP's.

  • Hmm, the ones I own are 'Our Endless Numbered Days', 'Shepherd's Dog', and their EP titled 'The Sea and Rhythm.' None of which, unfortunately, include this song.

  • why is his best song a B-side, I don't get that at all

  • Well.. ehh, on I-tunes I believe that this is only an "Album Only Download" so you can't really buy it. I wouldn't really call it a B-side. Either way, it's a freaking amazing song. All you people have awesome taste. :D

  • it's deffo on the unrealsed thing he put out, and obv was in that film but what a song wish he did more like it, Fever Dream is a crackin Iron And Wine track also

  • i listen to this song whenever im tense i feel better after it :)

  • God I could listen to this song over and over..it's the epitome of amazing

  • this song makes me choked up every time i listen to it, this was my girlfriends song about me :/

  • This is probably the most relaxing song ever...I really like this song..it makes me feel..me..

  • I really like this song. I find this song to be very emotional and powerful. It is one of few songs I can sit and listen to over and over again and not get sick of listening to. It also carries a significance with it ... it was one of the songs along with let me be myself (3 doors down) that helped to shape the person of whom I am today. I have discovered my self-worth and who I am and who I want to become. I would also consider this to be one of the best songs ever written.

  • i realy do prefer this version ,....i like the live one too but this one ....me donne la chair de poule!

  • I am d'accord avec toi :)

  • this is probably the most relaxing song ever. i can listen to it over and over and never get tired of it. the lyrics are so beautiful, and of course the guy's voice= amazing!

    i love iron and wine.

  • this is just an incredible, beautiful song. i Love iron&wine, and i have to learn to play/sing every single one of their songs haha.

  • This is quite possibly a contender for the best song ever written.

  • @dave1176 agreed

  • good call, i think it is.

  • @dave1176

    For sure it is!

  • @dave1176 way up there on the list

  • @dave1176

It's funny that you say that. This is the song for the soundtrack. The original is different and (arguably) not as good. Why is it funny? This 'better version' is cut in a way much different than how it was actually written.

I still watch this video 20 or 30 times a year when I need a friend and one is unavailable...

    =)

  • but i think the live version is better.

    I LOVE IRON&WINE

  • Some planes depart, others never arrive.

  • I can't stand how good this song is.

  • i'm an avid hip hop and rap connoisseur but i fell in love with this song after i saw the movie =) such great heights from iron & wine is also good.

  • me tooo! i fell in love after the movie!

  • Such Great Heights is originally from The Postal Service, but yes, Iron & Wine makes incredibly beautiful songs and covers too. :)

  • you have it backwards, Iron and wine originally wrote such great heights which was inturn covered by the postal service

  • wait, seriously? hmm. I've checked the Wikipedia for Such Great Heights - it's probably reliable enough for this type of thing - and it says that the tracks were written by the Postal Service, and that album included tracks that were just covers by other artists. if you have a more reliable source of information, I'd be glad to be reinformed.

  • The Postal Service wrote the song, and Iron & Wine covered it. I have no authoritative source for this...except that this is how it really went.

I was annoyed to admit it because I'm not really a Postal Service fan and Iron & Wine's version destroys theirs, but it is certainly the case that Iron & Wine are doing the cover

  • Ben Gibbard of Deathcab for Cutie while writing in correspondence with the artist behind Dntel wrote it for a band they were working on called "Postal Service" Sam Beam covered it (literally before it was even released) all rights to the song still belong to Ben Gibbard, although when Ben performs this song acoustically he often references Sam Beam's version, which adds to the confusion. :) Honestly though both artists are great and it fits both of their idioms in different ways.

  • these guys and two gallants= the greatest ear candy ever concieved

  • This is just a beautiful touching song. Thank You!

  • "And the hairs on your arms will stand up"

Smile, and doors will open my friends

  • I think he means, a version without the phrase "fuck the man."

  • i doubt it man

  • Haha. Funny. (not sure why so many Neg. marks).

  • I honestly only watched this move (In Good Company) because I heard that there was a lot of the Iron And Wine songs in it. :)

  • I have played this song many times after my son Nathan died of brain cancer at age 20. I cry each time thinking both of the good times and the incredible loss. This weekend marks three years. I miss you Nathan but I will see you when I get there.-Dad

  • Im sorry for your lost. Your words made my cry. Nobody can really move on after losing a child, but i hope you some day can find some inner peace.

  • This made my day.

  • Awesome song. Makes me smile..and cry just a little though. ;)

  • beautiful song xxx

  • You rock the free world for posting this song. Been trying to find it forever. Spiritually uplifting and simultaneously melancholy. Makes me happy while it reminds me of sad moments past, mistakes made, and friends lost. I hope there really are Pearly Gates. Sgt. W. rest in peace. We'll meet again.

  • The song is the last on the new double-disc of Iron and Wine rarities. What a closer.
