Hey, anyone looking for some new original finger-picking acoustic stuff, check out my channel!! Guaranteed to make your day better; if it doesn't, you can leave a hateful comment on my profile. It's a win-win.
this was the first song of his I heard - 4 or 5 years later... and I still get chills and lose my breath when i hear it- I just don't quite know what to do with myself.
This was so much better live when I had first ever heard the song. I don't think I like the original.
As for the people who say this is the best he's done, that's bull feces. But feel free to choose from Naked As We Came, Each Coming Night, or Jezebel.
what's with all the noobs saying this is the best song they've ever heard? did you just discover iron & wine yesterday or something? naked as we came is still a lot better.
No matter what I seem to be doing, this song always gets my attention. It feels like all the important parts of my life are being relived in a few moments.
I think this song has been floating around for some time now ... like an eon or something similar. This song is an emotion in music that I cannot name ...like he pulled it out of the air and gave it a kiss
Lovely song. People have said some of our music sounds like Iron & Wine, can't see it myself but I'm not complaining, He is very good :-) follow the link to Antiqcool and Judge for yourself.
Hmm, the ones I own are 'Our Endless Numbered Days', 'Shepherd's Dog', and their EP titled 'The Sea and Rhythm.' None of which, unfortunately, include this song.
Well.. ehh, on I-tunes I believe that this is only an "Album Only Download" so you can't really buy it. I wouldn't really call it a B-side. Either way, it's a freaking amazing song. All you people have awesome taste. :D
it's deffo on the unrealsed thing he put out, and obv was in that film but what a song wish he did more like it, Fever Dream is a crackin Iron And Wine track also
I really like this song. I find this song to be very emotional and powerful. It is one of few songs I can sit and listen to over and over again and not get sick of listening to. It also carries a significance with it ... it was one of the songs along with let me be myself (3 doors down) that helped to shape the person of whom I am today. I have discovered my self-worth and who I am and who I want to become. I would also consider this to be one of the best songs ever written.
this is probably the most relaxing song ever. i can listen to it over and over and never get tired of it. the lyrics are so beautiful, and of course the guy's voice= amazing!
It's funny that you say that. This is the song for the soundtrack. The original is different and (arguably) not as good. Why is it funny? This 'better version' is cut in a way much different than how it was actually written.
I still watch this video 20 or 30 times a year when I need a friend and one is unavailable...
wait, seriously? hmm. I've checked the Wikipedia for Such Great Heights - it's probably reliable enough for this type of thing - and it says that the tracks were written by the Postal Service, and that album included tracks that were just covers by other artists. if you have a more reliable source of information, I'd be glad to be reinformed.
The Postal Service wrote the song, and Iron & Wine covered it. I have no authoritative source for this...except that this is how it really went.
I was annoyed to admit it because I'm not really a Postal Service fan and Iron & Wine's version destroys theirs, but it is certainly the case that Iron & Wine are doing the cover
Ben Gibbard of Deathcab for Cutie while writing in correspondence with the artist behind Dntel wrote it for a band they were working on called "Postal Service" Sam Beam covered it (literally before it was even released) all rights to the song still belong to Ben Gibbard, although when Ben performs this song acoustically he often references Sam Beam's version, which adds to the confusion. :) Honestly though both artists are great and it fits both of their idioms in different ways.
I remember when "The Creek Drank the Cradle" came out...I thought "how could this get any better"...here's the answer. Sam Beam just keeps getting better.
I have played this song many times after my son Nathan died of brain cancer at age 20. I cry each time thinking both of the good times and the incredible loss. This weekend marks three years. I miss you Nathan but I will see you when I get there.-Dad
