The bad thing with Hoolywood movies about greek mythology and history is that there r the good and the bad guys.everything so simplified.However the magic of greek mythology is that nothing is black or white,exactly like real life.Achilles was a passionate man(he was also the youngest,don't forget that!)and that is why we love him.

Darla the myths u mention(about the rape of Penthesileia,Polyxena,even Achilles dressing as a girl) were created centuries after Homer's death.Some of them r even latin,not greek.If we admit that there is some truth in all myths,it must be found in the most ancient myths.

Rape isn't a need, it's a psychological expression of dominance. Achilles was dressed as a woman his entire childhood so that he wouldn't be called up to fight, because his mother had heard the prophecy he would die in battle. That kind of experience is emasculating and damaging. He spent the rest of his military career proving that he was a "real man." Sure, he could've had willing women, but that wouldn't counteract his need for dominance any.

Briseis wasn't his lover, historically speaking. She was part of the spoils of war, treasures that got divided up among conquerors. They make it a love story in the movie because the thought of Brad Pitt as a rapist and slave owner wouldn't sell well to audiences.

Achilles was indeed a man, hidden from his military duty, but not dressed as a woman. He had no need to rape anyone. But in those Dark Ages For Women, they were all treated like slaves, except the princesses, and queens. Rape was not considered something worth doing, for a fighter. Because they had any female they wanted, as a result of their fighting skills.

Actually, in the novel, Achilles' mother is a Nereid (sea nymph), not a goddess. Achilles' death in the movie is more or less accurate, in that he was shot through the heel by Paris and died. As for "immortal and didn't die," no. He did die, after being lured into the temple of Troy by Paris' sister, Polyxena.

Hercules was in several stories, whereas Achilles exists primarily in the Trojan War. Hercules is a more conventional hero; Achilles commits several atrocities in the Trojan War.
