It's wonderful to record the exact locations from long ago to now. Fantastic job. It seems that even in it's worst slum years of the 1800's the East End at least had character about it. It just looks sad now, no vibrancy of any kind.

It's true many investment bankers etc are buying in Canary Wharf and new apartments - moving in and pushing out many immigrants in community of East London. I've lived in Canary Wharf now for 3 years and when I first saw the surrounding area (Newham, Bow, Stratford) was shocked with number of ethnic people. I've lived in Manchester and York, you just do not see this many ethnic people - 90+% of the country is White British.

Recently myself and group of students from university of herts went to tower hamlets to look at the effects of segregation, gentrification and marginalisation around the isle of dogs. 1/2 of the images you show were used in the video project to convey across the mess that the LDDC and local government had made.

It's wonderful to record the exact locations from long ago to now. Fantastic job. It seems that even in it's worst slum years of the 1800's the East End at least had character about it. It just looks sad now, no vibrancy of any kind.

The east end is gone forever, the buildings are still recognisable in the photos, but the people, the real east enders who were the heart and soul of london are gone.
I'm 100% British and my family have been in the east end as far as i can trace back but i moved my family away to escape the rot which is eating away at the British way of life.

If the area was majority White, not many white people will go round saying white kids are useless and trashy. Instead you'll say that the area is poor. People make Bangladeshis look like a disaster because of culture, religon and skin colour. That's the real truth. A lot of it is to do with Islamaphobia. The religon and culture is a horrible thing for the locals who have problems with Bangladeshis.

Just because the majority are Bangladeshi it doesen't mean that the Bangladeshiu are failing. If that's the case then it's happening to Whites and Blacks too. It just happens to be that the area is poor and Bangladeshi people are the majority. You can't put your finger on Bangladeshi people for that reason.

It's not just the bangladeshi kids in Tower Hamlets failing. It's the environment in Tower Hamlets. It's the poverty in the area. White and black kids are failing just the same. But you also do have the minority where kids are doing very well.

You haven't got a clue farsee. I was born and raised in the East End and recognise almost every area shown in this video. The East End was my home! Over my lifetime(44years) the area has been swamped, predominantly with Muslims. The white, working class population has been forced out of the area, in the main to Essex. The people of the East End, who bore the brunt of the blitz, have been totally betrayed. The East End is a thing of the past. This is a marvelous video with a very apt ending.

It's true many investment bankers etc are buying in Canary Wharf and new apartments - moving in and pushing out many immigrants in community of East London. I've lived in Canary Wharf now for 3 years and when I first saw the surrounding area (Newham, Bow, Stratford) was shocked with number of ethnic people. I've lived in Manchester and York, you just do not see this many ethnic people - 90+% of the country is White British.

It is sad because the most successful along with white British are many chinese and Indians. These Bengali/paki kids seem very poor, lacking education, poor English communication skills (or so bad slang "in it"), guys with (50's) bowler style hair cuts. You can see the envy in these kids eyes who's parents would have been very poor
and now girls want the similar lifestyles they see from British and American girls.

Many other Asians here (Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Indians) are much more successful than these Bangladeshi/Paki kids - they prefer not to be labelled "Asian" with them , as they have told me but Chinese-British, Indian-British etc. I think Eastern Europeans will be more successful as they integrate better and come from countries much wealthier and western liking cultures.

Great professional comparison-series of photos. Shame you had to spoil it with shallow comparison of "heroes" at the end which just arouses unnecessary ethnic tensions. The East end had some great heroes who fought Fascism & discrimination against previous groups of migrants that have been its life-blood.
