NighTmare as a child...true story...i was 5 years old....had a dream where i was half awake and half asleep...in my dream-state the salesman was in the doorway of my room and i was so frightened because i thought i was awake. i kicked out the window next to my bed and threw a piece of glass at the doorway...as i became fully awake i saw that the window was REALLY broken and that I had REALLY done this....the only thing that wasn't real was the salesman....

well, when i was little, i used to think they were afraid of the salesman because of the same reason i was- he came over whenever he wanted, they screamed when they saw him (i used to hate the secret word for that, too. i hated loud noises) but the number one reason was that he had a huge head.

I also thought the same reason thinking Pee Wee was afraid of the salesman because of his huge head but, that wasn't the reason. The reason Pee Wee screamed and shut the door whenever the salesman would come by is because, he is always trying to sell Pee Wee something he doesn't want, like, or need, and he finds it annoying whenever the salesman comes by.

However, there was one episode where Pee Wee let him come inside his playhouse as soon as the salesman came by.

I think that is part of what made PeeWee cool at the time, was the way he kinda freaked kids out, but in a cool sort of way like nobody else could! Parents got a kick out of watching their kids retreat from the television room while getting the opportunity to explain to the kids how PeeWee's Playhouse was all make believe... explaining PeeWee to your kids, that was the tough part.

I thought in the beginning Pee Wee was afraid of the salesman because his very large head scared Pee Wee but, I think the reason Pee Wee screams and shuts the door on him is because the salesman comes by a lot when Pee Wee always tells him that he's not interested in whatever he's selling. However, there was one episode Pee Wee let him come in when the salesman said that he was selling Pee Wee aluminum foil which Pee Wee likes. The secret word in that episode was "This."

It was an episode where Pee Wee was having a party and where everyone was giving gifts, and the salesman arrived saying "I'm going door to door to give you this incredible offer." First, Pee Wee screamed and shut the door, then he opened the door and asked what the offer was where the salesman said "it's foil." So Pee Wee said "oh why didn't you say so, and told him to come in and he invited him to the party."

I agree. I also thought it was funny seeing the salesman inside Pee Wee's playhouse. Maybe the reason why Pee Wee let him inside his playhouse on this episode because, since Pee Wee was having a party with all his friends where everyone was giving a different person a gift, Pee Wee was probably sad that nobody gave him a gift, so he probably thought if none of his friends gave him a gift, he would at least get a gift from the salesman even though he doesn't appreciate the salesman arriving.

Back then, there was no internet, no video phones ext. So low life companies used massive spamming of salesman over the phone telemarketing and door-to-door.

I remember during the summer holidays as a kid we use to get at least 4 salesman at our house and 5 phonecalls per day, all selling different Shit! So anyoying! Thats what makes it so funny!!!

Well, I know the King of Cartoons came over to the party in the middle of the show to show a cartoon (I can't remember if he stayed at the party or not) but, I remember what happened as the salesman was having some punch.

Pee Wee then sat in the corner of his playhouse crying because, none of his friends gave him a gift. So then all of his friends gave him a gift to say that they saved the best for the last which made Pee Wee happy, and then he rode away on his scooter and the show ended.
