Check your numbers, it's more like 50% Canadian (On wiki they say 488 out of 980 WITH NHL CONTRACTS, not all playing... still pretty impressive though for a country of 30M.)

You just pointed out that there are 980 NHL contracts so I don't see what you're getting at in that "something doesn't add up". Either way, I'm not saying Canada is not the best hockey nation. its not racist, he is just stating that russia is nothing when it comes to hockey, and he is right. i mean sure they have talented players, but how many russians, americans or any other nation combined can make up for how many canadian players play pro hockey, even in European leagues. dont get so offended, it would be the same as some reporter in italy or brazil saying canada in nothing in soccer, which would be true. But Hockey is Canadas Game so thats where she ends.

Are you honestly comparing the KHL to the NHL? they play in the khl either because they arent good enough to play in the nhl, want too much money, or can't leave due to contract, and to be completely honest out of that entire league, i think theres one player that the nhl is missing out on, is alexander radulov. if the two leagues relationship ever got better, I would loooooooove to watch the nhl all stars take on the khl all stars, and watch the K get slauuughtered.

@Lennac 520+33=553 players.... 30 teams X 20 players dressed per team = 600 players. That would only leave 47 players from the USA, Finland, Sweden, Slovakia etc. Something doesn't add up. Check your numbers, it's more like 50% Canadian (On wiki they say 488 out of 980 WITH NHL CONTRACTS, not all playing... still pretty impressive though for a country of 30M.)

@Lennac i wasn't being arrogant, I just dont think any country besides Canada is at the same level when it comes to hockey. I was born Romanian so I cant be saying European players aren't good just how many of those 514 Russians in the KHL do you think would be able to compete at NHL level? And the 25 Canadians Playing KHL couldn't make it here. I'm sure they would rather play here no? All i'm trying to say is that sure, Russia is a big Hockey country, but no on our level, and passion.

Russia always has their elite players playing in that tournament because they've all been elimated from the NHL play-offs. Ex. Ovechkin, Semin, Kovalchuk. Come late May, Datsyuk is the only good Russian left in the NHL.

The difference was in the coaching. One of the Best games of hockey ever played was the '76 game between the Canadians and the Soviets. That Montreal team was a great team. Both teams played skilled, puck posession, puck movement hockey like warriors and it was a masterpiece of a hockey game. 3-3 tie. Good hockey is good hockey

The point is, you can throw out a hockey player from any country you want, Sweden, USA, Czech, Finland or Russia, and theres always a Canadian you can name that was better, without repeating Gretzkys name once.
