sorry. PLEASE DON'T READ THIS you will die in seven days if you don't post this comment on 10 videos in the next hour. if you do, tomorrow will be the best day of your life
Ummm no. if you read history the Lotus had problems in the 80s and 90s to cut costs. It has nothing to do with what I think about it. The Mercedes' didnt have problems; if it did I would mention it if that was the case. If you look it has the same frame and rear look as the Elise.
Lotus hasn't impressed me in the last oh say 25 years. The Esprit was a nice car if they didn't have so many problems with them. Hate the Elise (skateboard on wheels)and this thing really has no design taste to it. Looks like the Elise but with a Toyota Camery motor in it. Remember the Elan? In 1990 after the car redebuted, they put an Isusu motor into it and people walked away. Why do auto makers continue to make the same mistakes?
@MrRackensack What mistakes? Your opinion is a mistake. Just because you do not like this car all because you don't like the looks of Lotus's doesn't mean theres something wrong with it. I don't like the look of Mercedes' but you don't see me going around accusing their cars of having issues. I have no clue how you think the Evora looks anything close to an Elise anyway.
Toyota specially provided Lotus with the engine tuning softwares. Because if Lotus tunes this engine well, it also will be an advertisement of Toyota.
It looks like another Lotus..... I'm sorry everyone but aren't you tired of seeing the Elise become the next new model for Lotus? It has kept the SAME design since like 1997!
Think about it though..... you're paying for an exotic look - plus a ride from that tuned up suspension. and later if you hook up a turbo system on there... it already has that hot v6 from toyota which we all know if very capable of gains with forced induction. so for a cheap exotic look and with a racing suspension - it is worth it. somthing you also would rarely see on the road.
sorry guys all yall say these cars are nice (other than the lotus) but the lotus are the nices/ most expencive/ fastest cars around (not the fastest, but faster cars.)
Eassport, they are very safe, extremely strong, that's why the corner so fast. The Lotus exceeds many of the safety tests, like F1 cars they look flimsy but they are not
So glad Lotus seems to have a close relationship with Toyota as their engine supplier. And that 3.5L V6 is one of the best in the business. tried the car on GT5P, Seems like the gearing is a bit out of wack, hopefully they will correct the gearing issue once the car reaches it's dealership.
Go to a performance driving school with Mid-engine cars. Learn all the basic car control. Cause it can be quite leathal (MR car) If u don't know what u are doing
Leathal???MR cars are supposed to be the most stable, well griping cars.Maybe you mean that he is going to drive like a lunatic.Every car can be dangerous if he does so
I will say this about the Evora, Lotus has the right idea here small mid engined 2+2 MR layout toyota powered 2GR-FE 3.5L Dual VVT-i engine 6 speed cable shift manual transmission nice cabin layout. GOOD JOB LOTUS, This would make Colin proud I'm sure.
i know lotus is vey concerned with weight but awd provides awesome stability in every aspect, take off,curves,etc..they should consider the pros and cons of using awd
naw lotus is very deprived about weight, and all wheel drive systems add additional weight to their vehicles, their not going to do an all wheel drive, and all, all wheel drive systems are really good for are coming off the line really.
there was a girl named emily ive argued alot with my father and oine day my dad came home pissed because he lost his job and he stabbed me in the neck then threw me in a well now im trying to haunt him but i cant find him so im hoping u can help me find him post this onto 10 videos or ill be waiting at the edge of your bed waiting until u go to sleep...a kid thought this was dumb but the next day his parents found there son dead in the bathtub with the neck slit open drowned... sorry guys
yeah man power to weight ratio is nuts. Thats why people choose to work on hondas, every little bit helps. In a full size you'll never notice the extra power.
Maybe you should read what I said if you want to not make yourself look foolish. I responded to "razor3400's" comment, he said "280 BHP sucks." I said HP doesn't matter, what matters is lbs. per HP and HP per liter.
bc nobody really buys them. Who besides car enthusiast buy them? Most people looking to buy in this range know nothing a buy a retarted cayman or boxster or something like that. I have a few people that are huge car enthusiasts and there is a guy with a yellow lotus elise and they all see it drive buy and say, wtf is that thing? nobody sees them and they dnt have much marketing over here in the US so less income=having to sacrifice a few things I guess.
I loved Lotus',they had great gas mileage, great acceleration, amazing handling, and not to mention theyre sexy as fuck, but they put a TOYOTA motor in them now??
God,how unclassy, its supposed to be a European car,so put a european engine in them,Im not saying I didnt like the Ford engined panteras of back in the day,but man,I have to say,I hate toyota more than any one single car in the world,I hate them more than I do emos.
rockerdude, im sorry your ford fiesta is in the shop while toyotas are dominating the roads. Look at the elise and exige, why do you think they use toyota's 2ZZ engine? because its prolly the highest performing engine under 2L. The 3.5 in the evora is capable of up to 330hp naturally aspirated and lotus made room for a supercharger that would boost it to over 400hp, lotus is smart to go with the #1 automaker in the world.
there's nothing wrong with high rpm low torque in a lightweight performance car. The smaller the displacement, the lower the torque. HP matters the most in a lotus. Also, the higher the RPM means increased engine wear and the higher you'll have to rev it to get the most out of the engine which is why toyota prolly went with the IS 350's 3.5 for the evora. Ive driven 6500 red lines and 8000 redlines, and for me, the 6500 is more practical and fun to drive with a better power band.
Not necessarily. Do you're homework, without any horsepower you're stuck in the slow lane. Primarily, torque is what "pulls" the car, but if you don't get any horsepower until 5000 RPM you're going SLOW. If you're theory is right why aren't all the major car manufacturers doing that?
lol are you kidding me? aside from the 2zz-ge which was designed in conjunction with yahama, name one Toyota engine which was a high revving engine? all their engines are designed with fuel economy in mind, which is why they are mostly squared displacements with relatively similar HP to torque specs. this engine makes 248 ft lbs and 268 HP in most of toyota's cars.
Toyota is the greatest car Builder in the Whole World! Better than your redneck engines burning fuel and polluting, and still you cant pass an European or Japanese cars!
"it's technically a 2+2, but those rear seats are really sized for children" YES this is in keeping with british sports car tradition! I love it. Even the mG Midget was offered with a rear seat cusion for a few years, but you would only be able to fit amputees back there!. I wouldnt have it any other way.
They have been using toyota engines for a few years now. At least since the introduction of the elise to the US. Previously they may have been using a rover K series, but that engine doesnt meet US standards, nor are parts for it availible here. I believe the last lotus to use a lotus 900 series engine was the lotus esprit which was discontinued in 2004. The toyota T block is a good reliable engine and believe me, Lotus breaths on it a fair bit.
Introducing ... the HAPPY car :D

Toyota makes everything terrible, including their engines
They're all high-RPM, low-torque, stereotypical RICER engines.
chopperhead2011 3 years ago
there's nothing wrong with high rpm low torque in a lightweight performance car. The smaller the displacement, the lower the torque. HP matters the most in a lotus. More torque means faster acceleration. If Lotus didn't use engines that don't produce HP until 5000 RPM, then they could get sick 0-60 times.
chopperhead2011 3 years ago
Not necessarily. Do you're homework, without any horsepower you're stuck in the slow lane. Primarily, torque is what "pulls" the car, but if you don't get any horsepower until 5000 RPM you're going SLOW. If you're theory is right why aren't all the major car manufacturers doing that?
cjm502 3 years ago
Actually, since I'm a RWD type of guy, torque "pushes" the car, not "pulls" lulz.
Still, Toyota engines have no torque either way.
