this is quite fascinating. For a few years now I've been playing with computer driven kits on programs like Reason in an attempt to get a realistic feel and swing in my drum tracks, but it always sounds mechanical which I thought was due to the instrument samples always sounding the same on each hit. I would love to see the timeline on an ableton track after you have recorded something like this into it so I could see how the hits fall into the time signature (behind/infront of beat etc)
@32TeamBravo32 Is it really that much of a difference? He's using his fingers instead of his hands/feet. I'm sure he can do more with 2 fingers than most drummers can do with "a real drum kit".
Percussion is percussion weather you are banging the skins on a standard set or tapping a trash can with a stick.. What is important is the ability of the performer to feel the beat.
Just a question...aside from the ease of setting up, and the diversity of sounds you can get from a comp/perc controller, what makes you choose this as opposed to real drums? You're obviously an accomplished drummer, don't you miss the feel/dynamics/sound projection of a real drum kit?
I don't choose one over the other. It's just something that I started doing because a drumset wasn't available to me. Both sides have their advantages. Think of it this way, if there were a 100 other computer companies that could compete with the mac, would we be as interested in having one? I feel very thankful to have this gift that seems to be unique from many others.
being an engineer and musician myself.. I'm also a gearhead and i gotta say I love your MIDI chops.. outstanding work and your adaptation from real world to midi is incredibly precise! well done sir i enjoy watching your videos from a musician and engineering standpoint! :)
Simply amazing! Brother, I wish one day you might break down how you practice, how your drums are laid out across the pads, share some tips....I'd love to get this proficient on drum pads!
Cool David!! It sounds freshly, we can breathe it.
Where can I get that support for my Nano?

Really like this A LOT. Real deal beat machine Mastery. I have a 2500 MPC and can't do it THAT fast, but I do OK.
I think I seen the nanoPAD for like 60 somewhere. although I do have one, I need something to travel with. nanoPAD is fire.

Does your apparent ease have anything to do with the WD-40 off in the corner?
Easily the best finger drumming I've ever heard.

You talking about the nanopad..it costs 60 euro/50 $ and you get a small version of the drum software too. Crazy. But the playing you have to learn!
I've got one & it's great.
