As crazy and innovative as Star was in 93, this show was just balls to the wall CHOPS. Plus I don't understand why not many people never seem to take into account the ridiculous color gaurd Cadets had in this show.
LOVED Frank Williams. I played mellophone that year with the Cadets. Still have my medal in a drawer. This is where I learned work ethic & became most of the man that I am today.
@DrmrGuy1979 interesting... my tenor playing friend, (ten years ago) had said as much as "the tenor feature begins very dirty and "phases" to being not dirty midway, and "I bet aungst was "Havin' a Baby" during that at finals. sheesh. its amazing, the differing perspectives on whats dirty and whats clean, you can be ON the field and think one thing, then hear it and be like "Oh Shit, we sucked!' and then no one can agree with you.
This video should be called "Cadets 93, but I kept the cam on my crush in the snare line the entire time, so you would have better luck getting a visual effect from an mp3 audio file"
this show is untoucheable. you can whine and moan about Star getting jobbed all you want but this show is by far a better visual show and the hornbook is just as good if not better then Star's that year. This show is on my list of top 5 all time shows and will be until the day i die. I have a good friend who marched alto in that hornline and we have had numerous talks about the insanity that is Cadets '93
I marched Cadets that year also, mellophone... Experience I will NEVER forget. All that I learned musically came from marching this corps... Screw what I learned in college next to this.
Why in the world isn't there a full video of this on Youtube... or anywhere else for that matter?!?!?! For being the show that beat Star 93 from the champions spot.... you'd think there would be a little more out there. I-R-O-N-I-C......
i didn't say best, i said hardest. they're at ridiculous tempos the entire show. philip bliss is a break, but that's about it. but i guess it's a tossup between this, 92, 95, 98, and 2000.
The championship performance was actually super clean as well, however, the mic's used for the video mix were picking up a lot of weird slapback when the drum line was central-front. Listen to Star's performance ... Same thing, and everyone knows they were super clean.
Has anyone seen / can anyone post the full DCI version of this show from this year? One of my favorites of all time. Though, Star 1993 is my favorite of all time. =)
i used to watch one that was professionally taped so the more important sections were viewed at the right time. but now i go to look for it and i cant find it and i forgot to favorite it
@paulb3rd I marched SCV 91-93, and your drill movements in this show were very taxing, as was our show in 1991. You guys just never seemed to stop moving, especially in the opener! You guys were my favorite show that year.
my old buddy Kurt Ferrari ... he had fought knee (or maybe thigh) issues all season and doing a full day rehearsal (a** busting rehearsal btw) followed by a show, retreat, he was in too much pain for the run thru ... I didn't even notice until we did this loop-d-loop in scattered drill during ballet sacra, and he wasn't spinning around me - but hey, that whole run was strange
Oh wow....that really sucked. I marched the 2007 show on contra also, so I know what you're talking about with knee problems. That can really get anybody down (didn't happen to me, luckily).
The members of that particular Cadets line were Monsters!!! Around October of that year, I met one of the guys in the snareline and he had forearms bigger than Popeye...lol!!! Man those guys were tough!
Holy crap...3:49 It appears the bassline did an "Ode" to SCV. If that's the case, Vince Gardner who played 3rd bass brought the flavor over, he marched with SCV in 92. Crazy!!
shit yeah!.. this looks like the Victory run since that many people are in the Pit... Dudes in the line are groovin.. you can see it in their heads!.. bad ass. Go Holy Name!

I marched for 10 years (00 Crusaders, USMC D&B, etc.) and I agree that this show rocks. Classic forever.

@DrmrGuy1979 this isn't finals, its the "victory runthrough" one does after winning.
hence the "dirt". I think people were flipping out in excitement (I mean, last time you'd ever play the show, "THE show.")
(the sond quality is indeed lousy as well.) lots and lots of fan noise

@Bah3932 But not as GOOD as Star of Indiana. Political bs from DCI, for the fail.

I marched that summer on the contra line. It was an amazing experience, but my knee still hates me for it.

@paulb3rd You marched in the contra line? You are my hero. This show looked super hard. I marched in the contra line in 2007 and 2009...

If G.E. scores weren't as weighted as they were at that time, Star would definitely have won the title in '93 HANDS DOWN!
