Skill wise, Lang Lang is the best of our generation. There, I said it. Fuck all you haters. You may hate his style of playing but you can't deny the raw technique this man possesses. He plays a very flamboyant and explosive style and if you hate it, so be it. However, don't be ignorant and deny this man of his hard earned skill and talent. He is still young and as he grows older, I'm sure he will play a more "musically correct" style (he is obviously capable of doing so). The skill is there...

good pianist but he just do to much like its a show. as for his playing well he change the works so much that it fells like average playing. anybody can play fast without any emotion. when the emotion is you and not the piece you play you have a problem. he is like maisska just a way to make money and fame.I dont think he cares that much at bottching incredible works

I'm not a fan of Lang Lang either, and at first I thought like you, but I've been thinking about him a lot recently...

I despise his interpretations, but recognize that he's a terrific pianist. He's getting a young generation interested in the piano repertoire, even if the performances themselves are questionable.

Unlike artists like Maksim Mrvica, he plays the original scores, and is getting heard. He's an amateur compared to Hamelin, yes, but at least people are listening.

@Rheostatik He makes many silly faces and his interpretations could be more within their style, but in recent videos I can see he has improved. I also think it is ridiculous to say LL is a bad pianist, I mean playing concertos like Mendelssohn or the Tchaikovsky at the right tempo and clean sound isn't something anyone can do, he deserves recognition for his efforts, but can get better. I think there are better young pianists worth listening (Kissin) but that's no reason to totally  hate LL.

Yo you know what happened? I saw Lang Lang today! I took a picture with him and got his autograph! Believe it or not! He came to Vancouver, Canada for this concert!!! WOW. Sometimes things can just blow you away because just 3 weeks ago I said I couldn't see him, and 3 weeks later I met him in person!

I did enjoy his concert and meeting him in person :). But you are luckier because 1: you were so closed to him when he was playing; 2. you could videotape it. I tried to take a sound record and was stopped by a staff. I might have been sent to a jail...
