@mysinger4life congratz im an ei-kyu in shotokan karate, the one with the most different katas than the other styles of karate lol. Its hard to see any similarities in any of my katas except for a couple such as The Heians/Pinans or Basai dai/ Pasai or Kwanku Dai/ Kushonku.
Superb performance! I wonder why Seisan has only right-leg kicks, though? Sanseiryu is the same. This asymmetry is something I've never understood. Anybody know?
That's extremely different from the seisan kata I'm learning... I'm guessing there are different versions? Not to say he didn't do well (although I'm not experienced enough to judge anyway). He just confused me...

Do yourself a favor and drop out of your karate class. Take some boxing and wrestling and in 6 months you will be able to wipe the floor with your karate teacher!
I think somebody with a couple decades of experience in karate would destroy somebody who just boxes and wrestles, let alone somebody who started only 6 months ago.
Besides, I'm not taking karate because I think I'm going to be some sparring champion. The cool stuff to learn is the stuff you never use in a match - the things they don't teach just anybody. With that stuff, I don't care if you're fighting Muhammed Ali, he's going down. Hard.
The difference between real life and movies isn't that karate doesn't work. The difference is that it doesn't look pretty. I'm sure most people would agree with me on that one.
there are a lot of different versions of this kata, as with all kata; some katas don't even exist in some styles of karate for whatever reason, it's usually not taken from that karate's base-style if it isn't included or studied. I'm currently learning this kata for my 3rd deg. grading.
All you haters man! That kata, reguardless of difficulty level, WAS AMAZING! His Mitsuke, delivery of power and timing was unreal! Too many martial artist all too often, forget about the importance of self expression in ones kata.
guys guys. whats the fuzz all about? this is ryouki abe an kata worl competitor your talking about. he is an all japan karate individual kata champion for several times he was also a wkf champion. this kata performed was in tokui form. meaning any variation and any speed of the delivery and timing performed is allowed. all international rules have that. and i think all japanese national team performe this kata in this way
WOAH WHAT VERSION OF SEISAN IS THIS!! OMG he WAS ALLOWED TO DO THAT KATA AS A BLACK BELT!? I was told we couldn't use that in a traditional tournament after we promoted past purple!
In Okinawan Goju-ryu Seisan happens to be considered a really difficult kata second only to suparinpei. In IOGKF only 3 Dan and above are expected to do this kata properly.
Is this at an annual Shiai?
I'm a Ni-Kyu in Isshinryu Karate, but it is interesting to see people do Seisan differently than I do in my dojo.

@yuggsoth
It does, there is a Naha, or Goju Seisan and a Shuri, or Shorin Seisan. There are similarities, but lots of differences as well.

Hmmm I believe this is Morio Higaonna's Son.
brasshandmartialarts 2 years ago
No, this is not Higaonna Sensei. This person is good, but his kata is more sporty, where Higaonna Senseis' kata is more traditional.
aiko4321 2 years ago
This isn't Eric Higaonna, really?...hmmm...
brasshandmartialarts 2 years ago
Yes. I too think this is Eric Higaonna Sensei, son of Higaonna Morio Sensei.
aiko4321 2 years ago
He's Ryoke Abe, former kata world champion.

@edschmid123 very very very true, a karate-ka that has only been practicing for 5 years, diligently, could easily take any UFC or MMA fighter
