Great tutorial, but I don't have After Effects. From what I know, you have to really break the bank to get After Effects.

Well, being on some kind of Arts or Multimedia college like I was really helps, too. They usually provide you with software like that if they're good (I paid 100 bucks a year and was provided with the complete Adobe CS4 suite and CS5 when it was released, so I can't complain at all).

I think it's not exactly hard to add to your footage - if you know what you're doing, basically.

Idk what I did but there is like a huge blue aura around my lightning and almost takes up my entire comp. Some feed back would be nice.

The lightning is kind of supposed to have a blue glow around it. Maybe adjust the blur amount of the adjustment layers in order to make it smaller.

Alright, I know you have been asked this kind of question before, but I just need lightning to be like lightning in the sky. Can I use this lightning in my video? I am having it so someone looks outside the window and lightning strikes. Can you tell me how to get the lightning to stay outside of the window, look real, and have the desired effect of starting from the sky, than it dips down, and whips back up?

No, I developed this method myself with inspiration from TFN's PixelMagic's force lightning tutorial. While some of my colleagues are quite fond of it, I personally hardly ever look at videocopilot. I didn't know there was a force lightning tutorial.

each screen adjustment layer i do, the lightning gets less.. stronge.

then after i do all of the screen adjustment layers, the lightning almost disapear.

Well I don't think I can do that, but there was a force lightning effect that I can do (the one Palpatine did on Mace Windu except Mace reflected it from his lightsaber.) which is a lot bright and stuff, and big! I think you can do that, too!

If your computer goes to slow, when you start it up where you would go into safe mode, instead go to safe mode with domain controllers only. Your computer will just not show a background image, but it will triple your speed. Making it simpler to render and make it.

However, the video has full audio commentary and a full written FAQ in the description, as well as an additional video dealing with some questions about it. I don't see any need to translate the text in the video, because it is not really important.

Oh, I guess so. Try to get your hands on the full version of AE, it's really worth it.

You might get older versions for a cheaper price, too, and most of my effects can be done with AE 7.0 and later.

Dein Videofootage sollte nicht Teil derselben Komposition sein wie die, in der du die Blitze machst. Also entweder fügst du die Blitz-Komposition in eine andere ein, wo auch dein Video drin ist, oder du fügst alternativ dein Footage über allen anderen Ebenen in die Blitz-Komposition und setzt den Mischmodus auf Addieren bzw. Negativ Multiplizieren.

Did you set the lightning effect on a new black solid layer or on the actual footage, if its put on the actual footage it takes over and erases the original...put the effect on a new black solid then set the transfer mode to add...

Sorry, I try not to ask stupid questions, but...

When I add the lightning composition into my footage comp, I set it to screen and it displays fine, but I can only edit the animation options (origin and destination, etc.) in the lightning comp. Since I can't edit these elements while looking at the footage, it is very difficult. What am I doing wrong?

what you can do, is copy the footage into the lightning comp, so you can use it as reference for the lightning, and then just hide it afterwards, so you can't see it. That should work...
