  • My goodness this makes me want to walk in the mall like an Amoeba

  • that dancing dude fucking rocks. it's like he's being totally cool but not even trying, which makes it even cooler.

  • @MegaMandrake99

That is straight up a Morrissey dance. This entire video is making fun of early 90s Morrissey videos.

  • Where did the other singer end up? Didn't know that there was another person in this group. Good news is that I can now start working on my Heatmiser collection now that I finished my Elliot Smith collection.

  • @StarvingSound technically there were 3 singers because of sam coombs who later went on to form quasi with the drummer of sleaterr kinney. he sings however not for heatmiser.

its amazing how many awesome bands sprang up in portland around this time, the best of many was without a doubt hazel with heatmiser and crackerbash in a close tie for second. Seattle had grunge but portland had in my opinion a much more intelligent and diverse scene.

  • <3 Elliott Smith

  • just one word.....AWESOME!

  • Lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelove

  • What the fuck is next to his lips? two pimples?

  • @hisquiskw666

  • @hisquiskw666 I was about to say those zits make this video all the more amazing, Who doesnt like their bands with flaws.... None of that disney pretty boy Jonas crap! lalala "Insert intelligent thought here"

  • @hisquiskw666 hehe that's why they never broke... those things on his face.

  • Elliott Smith is so beautiful

  • I wish I could dance like Neil Gust.

  • @Algydyce Neil Gust is pretty rad, but the featured dancer is Marc Swanson.

  • @XHolmes19X Marc's dance rocks the fuck out.

  • incredible deep and pretty song,

    almost makes me cry.

thank you heatmiser for touching me!

  • Does anyone know the make (and/or year) of the car that is shown in this video?

  • @drumsonfire007 Its The Badass Mobile, made in 666, by Satanic Autos. nah, looks like a smith2000

  • @drumsonfire007 looks like a 63 mercury monterey?

  • @ivsamhell Googled it; indeed it is! Thanks so much :)

  • This is how I Dance When Im Drunk! Great song By the Way!

  • Agreed

  • this isn't emo...it's homocore, haha. That's what people called them back then, for reals, cause Neil Gust was gay. And this song just FEELS gay... doesn't it? I dpn't really dig this feeling

  • Comment removed

  • dat dance

  • They weren't emo. Altenative, indie, grunge, but not emo. At least not such as those fake fags, who today call themselves emo.

  • Just finding out that Tony Lash played drums in this group? I'm a big fan of Eric Matthews, in which Tony played drums for as well as Cardinal- Eric's band before solo career. Eric is also from the Oregon area but spent some time in the NE as well.

  • Cop and Speeder is the best of their stuff

  • Wow. So much arguing about how to classify Heatmiser's music. As I recall - and yes I was there watching every show I could make it to,- (and yes -I'm old) we referred to the music scene which they were apart of here in Portland ( along with Pond, Sprinkler, Hazel etc.) as : "Grunge". I never heard the term "emo" until I saw it on ebay to describe a style of clothing about 5 years ago. Out of all the bands that were happening at the time , Heatmiser ruled.

  • Heatmiser did not come from Portland. They originated at Hampshire College in Amherst MA. Elliot, Neil, Peyton Pinkerton and .... I forget the drummer's name. Saw them many times. Probably opening for Dinosaur etc. My girlfriend and two of my best friends lived with them. Nice folks. They didn't really have anything at all to do with the DC emocore scene. Both are influences on later Emo bands.

  • emo sucks

  • @DwyerEP Dude, haven't you an idea of what emo means? Emo is emotional. Emo is human. Without emotion and full expression, as well as fair harness, of it, and you have soulness music people like you complain about plenty of times here. Without emotion, you are simply a robot.

  • Rick Astley would be proud of that dance :D

  • Emo existed before those bands, you know. Ever hear of Rites of Spring, One Last Wish, Embrace, or Moss Icon?

  • @yocheckthisride: Its arbitrary I know, but most people call those Revolution Summer bands "Emocore" as distinct from "Emo" which was more of a midwestern phenomenon influenced by the DC scene. I can tell you that a good friend of mine was in Fire Party and was not happy when I told her the Wikipedia page listed them as a seminal Emo band. This friend coined the term 'Revolution Summer."

  • @yocheckthisride YES! This was true original emo, where the term was coined.

I still have some Moss Icon vinyl....

  • i love this video

    PDX 90's black and white

    the best band

  • I concurr

  • someone put up a tab

  • Reading doesn't even come in to it assclown. Just look at the guy singing, It's not Smith, it's Neil Gust. Seriously kid... You know the one thing lamer than Hipsters is worthless idiots living in their mom's house who have nothing better to do but go on youtube looking for videos they don't like so they can comment on them. Go heat your self another Hot Pocket you waste of life.

  • @Dmented29 hahahahah

  • @ fuck taylor, you simply dont understand, congratulations your a troll, wow you took the time to right that...get a life seriously

  • I would be happy if you died grannyfucker.

  • @FuckTaylor You don't even know what you're talking about. That's not even Elliot Smith. On top of being a douche your an idiot too... congratulations, you failed at life.

  • you're an ass.

  • Taylor, your a failtroll. Get out.

  • who dances better, Fred Neno or Neil Gust?

  • fred looks like hes on acid when he dances haha

  • way better with elliott smith

  • How'd they get 2 amazing lyricists in one band?

  • @fertuiee thats probably the most win situation in rock music history, straight up.

  • This is waaay before EMO..

  • "emo", which was a term always rejected by manywho got labelled that started before this... in the mid 80's....

  • "emo" is a term used by the emotionally retarded

  • @kieran514 No further words needed. :-)

  • i love elliott and i love this 'shit'

  • i really wish you wouldn't call it emo crap.

just because that music means alot

    to alot of people.

    it means alot to me.

  • You're both assholes and you're both wrong. STFU and enjoy the music and stop arguing which is "better". See the beauty in both sides and take it for what it is.

  • why am i an asshole for not liking something, and preferring something else?

  • that's not what makes you an asshole. the other comments you made where you say things like "this shit/garbage" and "fuck you and your shitty music".

THAT'S what makes you an asshole.

    are we clear?

  • No you're an asshole for the shitty little connotation that you put in your comment, like unintelligent people like heatmiser, and intellectual people like Elliott solo better. Which is pretentious bullshit.

  • If it's so "easily understood" then please, by all means tell me exactly what gust was thinking when he wrote it? Is it about a man or a woman? Because you should know he was gay, or is it about relationships at all? and to quote you:

"you have no musical taste that's why you like this...... its a lot easier to understand this garbage than it is to understand the constant metaphors and symbolism in Elliotts " emo crap"..... "

so that's basically saying stupid people like heatmiser...?

  • wow i look down at the comments and half of them are about peoples haircuts and shit! listen to the fucking music and stopped being absorbed by trivial shit like that! i've said my bit, don't expect replies to your cheap attacks and derogatory comments.

  • love this song really good 90's feel to it great break up song too helps to cope with the feelings a bitch could do

  • Comment removed

  • Hmmmm, try listening to the music and not judging the music by the video that goes with it.

  • you people are pathetic

  • Is that Elliott in the back with the baadddd haircut?

  • at 2:13 Elliott can be seen to the left behind Neil Gust.

It all depends on your definition/views/tastes on what is considered to be a bad haircut, ya dumb cunt!

  • Comment removed

  • Don't get into a bitch fit, I didn't say he looked bad with the haircut. Elliott could have a head full of nails and he'd still look awesome.

But you wow...you just bring a whole new dimension to the word fag huh?

Grow a pair and stop frothing at the mouth about the haircut.

    Dumb pc piece of shit.

  • Your the only one frothing at the mouth. I simply made a point about relativity.

In hindsight I could've foregone the 'dumb cunt' remark seeing as how it caused such a reactionary response in you.

For the record, I didn't say that you said, "he looked bad with a haircut". That was all you. All I said if you reread my comment carefully was that yea...it could be bad (or baadddd) in your book. So, when you throw that out there other people either agree, don't care, or disagree. I have no opinion

  • I'm just saying besides telling me when to look(thank you for that), the rest of your comment was pretty redundant.

Would you have given your little speech if I had said is Elliott that cool guy in the back?

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have replied

"It all depends on your definition/views/tastes on what is considered to be a cool guy, ya dumb cunt!"

Calling someone a dumb cunt is pretty rough and it shows that you were offended by it. I'm only saying I wasn't insulting Elliott.

  • No, I wouldn't have. But, you didn't say that... Considering were just typing to each other and missing that other 90% of communication thats crucial (i.e. the body language and tone) then its pretty safe to say that we both misunderstood each other. The 'dumb cunt' thing is my kinda humor, albeit harsh, but if you were face to face with me you would get it (maybe not tho). And given I couldn't see your tone or body language when you said 'baaaaddd' I as well took it the wrong way. Cheers

  • Yea Cheers

  • What is this song about? What hits the ground and dies easy? Is it about losing a chick or having a broken heart?

  • 1:33 definitely rick astley parody

  • Rofl. I got a thumbs down for saying the guys dancing is freaky. Funny stuff.

  • <3 this song. The guys dancing is a bit freaky/ridiculous. XD

  • very kurt cobain influenced singing style

  • yeah reminds me of the Pixies a bit

  • paws at he heatmiser video *paw paw paw*

  • If all you dumbasses can actually watch the video you can see elliott in the backround. :)

  • This is one of my new favorite songs, I've been listening to Elliott Smith for a while but I just read a biography about him and found out about Heatmiser. If anybody has a tab I'd really like it. Otherwise I'll try writing one and posting it here.

  • Did you ever tab out/find a tab for this song??

  • Hey I just had a better Idea, why don't all you people that just use youtube as a vehicle to express your rage at others just go away and leave room for people that actually seek out music that they are interested in.

What I meant to say is, isn't there a beboo or fucking beebar or something for you people?

Please find your own kind and be happy.

    Kind regards

    Martin of the Beast people

  • Yeh, yeh, more people talking shit to each other; give youselves a big pat on the back.

Your mothers must be so proud.

  • Lol "Wouldn't mama be proud."

What's up with the dancing, seriously? I took it as a reference to that Rick Astley video, which would be hilarious. The 90's, what can you say?

  • Maybe I should'nt talk shit to people who are talking shit to each other?

That dance is awesome; just can't get it right, but not for the lack of trying!

  • .. :P

  • I don't care what you all say because frankly your fucking time has passed.

  • i really love it...no words

  • Long live Bruno (Satyricon) Best place to hang and play at...Viva Satyricon...JTS Brown.

  • portland was in charge prior the seattle puke

  • Amen Brother, Satyricon with the Gyro's and if you spoke EspanCholo you could hook it up down the street...

  • Gust cannot fucking dance. I am sorry, That was funny.

  • He may only be singing back-up and playing guitar, but he is still in this video. If memory serves, he was in the band til the end.

  • He was there til' the end. Elliott and Neil usually split lead vocal duties. PlainClothes man is on Youtube as well, showing off the Elliott side of Heatmiser. You have any Thirty Ought Six videos from this show? I used to watch it back in the day.

  • What you talking about? He was there when they started, and when they broke up. He's also in this video too.

  • This is good. Faved. Would you call this Post-grunge or alternative rock?

  • Post-Grunge for sure

  • Stop giving it a name ass. It was a lifestyle. Wuz there, Satyricon.

  • Well I'm here, and I don't care what you say, cos frankly, your time has passed. You're probably some boring 30something now in shit low-life job.

  • what an ignorant thing to say... "i dont care what you say cause frankly your time has passed" from that simple statement, i would never take anything you say seriously ever again. just because it proves how young in the mind you still are.

  • You would never take anything seriously again. Don't gloat mate, cos it endeared you to me about as much my last comment endeared me to you.. Just be quiet.

  • Oh fine, you're actually someone else.. Never mind, completely ignore the last thing I said. But you can see my point of view. I ask something, and then some cock goes and shoves it in my face simply because he/she was lucky enough to be born in the late 60s to middle 70s. Yeah, I wasn't there, but I'm here. That is why I lashed out. Sorry abou the previous comment.

  • yeah i didn't see he called you an ass there. yeah i dont usaully get down with that either but ijust saw it as a direct lash out not a come back. now seeing it knowing it's a come back cause some dick called you an ass cause he is a damn baby boomer who will go down ast he bastards who destroyed this countries economy.

  • stop the spam!

  • goodness, i didn't know I'd find such good quality heatmiser video, thnks for the post
