This is funny, but for you all saying you don't understand the point, I don't understand ya'lls comment. The point is that you have to not only have the vocals but the physical part too. If you really feel something, then it shows not only in your voice, but your movement. The same goes for acting (I'm a theater major), you can't just recite a script, you have to have the whole package. And when you really feel what you're talking about it shows through your voice and movement. That's the point.

GREAT tip!!!! I've heard other producers say the same thing but the examples you gave make it a lot more clear. And yes a listener can tell if you're just singing some words or if real emotion is in what you are singing, the right emotional content can make turn nice lyrics into a great song.

Successful emotional connection is what separates the top 10 from the wannabe's. If you can't feel the emotion pouring out of a $10 clock radio, you do not have a hit.

You hit the need on the head. I go through that with my artist. I let her listen to Marvin, Al, Anita, Otis, and I explain to her that those vocals she listen to is much more than pitch, riff, key, etc. Feeling is way more important and when you listen to those artist, you get a chill from their delivery, and that's why those artist are timeless and their song will be here til the end of time, and every artist should take notes.
