I'm sorry but I know no Japanese but I love manga and anime and so need this game. I'm just wondering, is the writing taught in this game the main writing used in Japan? I know there's many different types of Japanese writing. Does this game teach them all?
Hello :) yeah you can learn to read and write the following: Katakana, Hiragana, Kanji (so basicaly all you need to be able to wrote sentences and read them ) I hope this help ^-^ PS: Thanks for subscribing it's really appreciated :)
I fail to see any value in finding the words in a mess of letters. How does that help you learn at all? I was thinking about buying this, but after watching your review it just looks like a dictionary and games that don't teach you anything but just test your current knowledge. Tests are useful for proving your knowledge to yourself or others, not learning.
Actually brain work with repetition so as for learning any languages, the more you practice the more you learn. I got your point here tho but you have to keep in mind that in any language learning, there is the part with grammar(that is also included in the lessons) and the part that no logic can teach you whitch mean the simple fact that you need to start learning words and make sure you print them in you head to remember that and sadly other then keep studying and practicing there...
...there is no other choice then to practice over and over. I mean graduated doctor had to studie with flash card thousounds of hours simply to look at one disease then it's definition and they only way to learn them all is to keep studying. Anyway thanks for watching! ^-^ v
Flash cards may work with medical terms, but you will never learn 20 stroke kanji with flash cards. They are a common method, but it is rare to meet a Japanese student who actually becomes fluent. The word jumble exercise forces you to spend most of your time looking for the word instead of learning it, and it is uses romanji. Maybe romanji is not used later on, but for Japanese students romanji is EVIL. It presumes that the Japanese sound is equal to the English letter, which it is often not.
I agree, flash card methods are just like James Heisig's Remembering the Kanji book. Beginner students sing its praises, but I have never heard a single teacher that uses it. I think Japanese should be learned through context heavy sentence and dialogue and cannot be learned well through flash card like memorization, not unless you have a photographic memory. Your review saved me 30 bucks thanks.
As i sais to Robotpanda77, i personaly prefer buying a airflight ticket to japan and go meet my friends there to practice and do full imersion but it's a bit more expensive then 30$ :P But anyway i think your right on the photographic memory because if your are not a visual learning based person that is autodidact, i really suggest taking Japanese class or chat with japanese friends on MSn and stuff. Thanks for comment and as this is a review that's exactly the goal to let you know if the game
My goal as i said was exaclty to review it so that others can see what it look like and exacly be able to see if this little game can fit in their study :D Glad i could have save you 30$ :D
I wouldn't mind taking a trip to Japan myself, it is so different then the US. Very few Japanese live here to meet outside of Hawaii. Where are you from anyway Elidtios? Your accent sounds like English is not your primary language. Why are you trying to learn Japanese if you don't mind my asking? Personally, I am a Linguistics major and I took it up out of a fondness for its phonetic texture.
Hehe same for me i'll sure go to japan one day but I would like to be able to be at least able to communicate with the people in japan. I'm french native from Quebec, Canada and i've learn english by myself simply reading a lot and playing video game(for the vocabulary and such) verbe and grammar come from highschool english lessons. I'm learning japanese because i love the japanese culture and i got many friend that live all around japan:) and yes i'm autodidact as well as photographic memory.
Well i just did a review on in and did not said that this little game alone could makes you learn fluent japanese, simply that this is a good tool that can be used to easily learn thousands of words, their translation as well as the kanji and their strikes order and yes it can be switch to hiragana and pure Kanji insted of romanji. Again i don't praise that game more then any good japanese class or chatting and interacting with japanese speaker but i think that's a good tool for 30 box.
even with your accent, you sound really cute speaking japanese!

i guess when you want to practice writing, you should use a large stylus so you can hold it like you would a pencil

Any Japanese books or study tools you would recommend aside from the ds? I am reading the Genki textbooks now which are the best textbooks I know of.
