  • keep the bat up when your in your load... don't rest it

  • Here is my swing! check out my channel!! learn a perfect swing here!

  • Needs a better Bat Angle... The head of the bat should be over your head when you start your swing. This will generate a better load. The biggest thing for power is coming off you backside. Right now you are just pivoting your back foot and turning your hips. You must explode off your backside where your foot will almost come off the ground. Hands are great. Just need better bat angle and explode off your backside. This is hard to explain in a comment. Best thing look up other videos

  • he is good tell him that he is over rotating his back leg and he is dropping his back shoulder also get a 2x4 and then have him hit off the tee he is off balence and he well get more power

plus power isnt everything im 5'7" 110 pounds and batted 350 last year 37 RBIs and won a steamboat springs tourney

  • Good arm extension and bat speed through the zone. You're hip rotation is a little too quick and probably causes you to pull the ball too much. Otherwise, I'd suggest maybe incorporating a basic leg kick into your motion to generate a little more power on the follow through. Nice work.

  • very good swing overall, only thing is you pull your front open too soon and you tend to get around the ball, which also causes a slight overrotation of the back foot, but over it is a very good swing!

  • you are letting your front foot fly open, you need to keep more weight on your back side and work on "Squishing the Bug"

  • If you want him to generate more power, he needs to learn to disassociate his shoulders and hips and create torque. Right now he really does not generate any torque before the swing. However, he has a good contact position and a quick swing in spite of this, which is a good indication that he can develop a nice swing. This will initially be uncomfortable for him to do and will probably make his swing worse in the beginning. But it will assuredly create more power in the long run.

  • Saying that power is all about hand speed is misleading. Unless of course you're saying that power comes from the lower body, which produces the fast hands. Too many hitters rely on their hands without realizing that it's the legs that generate the power. The hands are along for the ride. If you let the hands be along for the ride--instead of firing (or throwing them)--you will be less inclined to swing at bad pitches.

I am shocked by all the bad advice in the comments.

  • maybe if your swing speed wasn't so slow you'd get more power

  • What I see when I watch major league hitters is that their upper body is in a more "laid back" position. You can draw a straight line from their front foot up through their hips shoulders and head at about a 45 degree angle. This kid’s upper body if fairly upright, creating a shallow launch angle.

  • you got to get faster trew de zone i played for team canada and thats what they told me and transfer the wait from your backfoot to your front foot it ill get better

  • power is all about hand speed. there are different work outs and drills that can help that but most of it is just gonna come with coming into your body. when you worry about power you akways fail. hit line drives all day. any good hitter will tell you that home runs come from gettng slightly under a pitch that you make good contact on. home runs are accidents. balance is another major factor, staying upright and centered is very important. also there is such a thing as too much rotation.goodluck

  • I don't see a good load as the pitch comes in. Turn in that knee and coil before you unload. As others have mentioned, your weight is not transferring to a strong front side- this momentum towards the ball helps with power. As you step forward, your hands stay back, giving the impression you are drawing them back. Look at the bend in your front elbow. You are sapping power by not having your arms "drift back" as you step forward. Hands need to be lowered to your pits. Science of Hitting.

  • 2 words 'Hunter Pence' haha

  • ur not the type of guy thats gona go out there and hit bombs every time so dont focus on power to much your going around the ball knob to the ball and stay inside keep your hands still not so jumpy and load earlyer and keep your front leg stiff and front foot straight to hit outside pitches better

  • guys he's only 12 no need with the "tips" isn't gonna make shit if he's still stuggling with the follow threw

  • hes not planting hi front foot solid and he's spinning right through his shift of power from back of body to front and missing the momentum transfer. you'll notice his front leg bowing after most of the swings because the plant isn't firm enough for the shift in power and he's missing it. have him work on planting that front foot firm, whether square or angled to the field, what ever hes comfortable with, and don't miss out on that shift in momentum. he got a good level swing, i hope this helps

  • the front foot is flying open. it's opening you up.

  • nice swing but just back off the plate a bit

  • upper body looks good, but your back leg should be forming a smaller angle. If you look at and powerhitters in the MLB, for example Albert Pujols, they have their back foot on the tip of the toe which means that the weight has been transfered to the front side. Yours however is what we call "squashing the bug", which mans that your weight is still on your back side and that should be avoided. Hopes that helps. -From the Epstein curriculum

  • good swing just after loading needs to seperate hands when picking up his front foot dont attack let it come to you

  • his body weight at the end of his swing is on his back foot, instead of the front foot. he should be focusing all of his energy and weight towards the ball and his front foot

  • hey one thing you could do is cock the hips and then fire creates crazy amount of power

  • some good things, but as long as your hands immediately "go to the ball", you will have no power. When they leave the shoulder area too soon you become disconnected and your core isn't giving you power. They should ideally get pulled to extension by the barrel after contact. It is all about connection.

  • wheres his load ? and no extension work on that and you''ll be good

  • @jtluvunc the instant you extend your arms, your bat stops accelerating. keep your elbows in tight. in this way you will continue to accelerate thru the ball and beyond. BATSPEED is your main objective.. this poor kid has so far to go..

  • He's losing balance every time......nor perfect

  • hips. your back foot is doing the preached little league squish the bug bull. you should throw your inside(left) hip more and the foot will come off the ground by itself. having a tiny bit longer stride might help promote throwing your hips and involve your legs some more, preventing that loss of balance you get on bigger hacks from the bat whipping you around. using your legs/hips will compensate more than a workout and diet plan. also a bigger load isnt necessary, just watch chase utleys swing

  • try to drive your backside harder, almost like you are trying to throw your back knee off the back wall. if you watch pro's swing their foot literally comes off the ground at contact because they drive it forward so hard,, but your front side has to stay firm and head still while doing this. not an easy task. also you pull off on your swings a lot. try to stay through it a little longer, and keep your head down on the ball instead of popping your head up.

  • When you load, try letting your right arm get longer. Almost straight. And practice swinging as hard as you can. Next level bat speed can be developed by practicing swinging hard. Lifting weights will help you move heavy things faster but will not increase your overall top bat speed. Proper leverage and timing, however, will.

  • Slow hands, Stopping through the zone, not fluid, and it looks like the bat is too big. I use a shorter bat and not as heavy and the ball jumps off my bat. Also make sure you are taking good swings at good pitches. Also try not to let your legs fully extend after contact. You want a little bend.

    Hope this helps

  • you aren't transferring weight to your front side. watch pujols, he doesn't look to stride much but watch his belly button and how it moves. that's how power hitters in the mlb generate power. try and imagine keeping a steel rod from the center of your head through your belly button, a straight axis is the most efficient way to swing the bat and generate the most bat speed.

  • Tall back side. Hands back, and drive through the ball. If you want to see a power swing, check out my video.

  • weights, weights, weights. makes a huge difference. especially without the pop of the original BESR bats now with the BBCOR, you really need a good compact swing, and true power

  • If he lacks power just do workouts with core, legs, and forearms.

  • gain some weight doe

  • keep bunting bro..

  • your throing your hands out to early. you gotta keep your hands a little more back. use your legs more. look up rotational swing.

  • You are not bringing your hands to your armpit as your weight goes to your back quad and knee...you are also not dropping your back knee , you are starting your swing too far out from your body. All you have to do is a simple hand movement.

  • If you want more power you should take a bigger stride and at the beginning of your swing you should tilt back and explode with power. im 14 years old and i discovered this trick by just figureing out exactly how to swing with more power. listen to this advice and you will be seeing your progress improving!

  • this is at mac-n-seitz! i play for the 15u Indians

  • @MrJlay29 right on bro - nice eye 4 detail. How bout them Royal$. You playin school ball?

  • @kcennis5 yeah i play at blue valley west, im a freshman

  • @MrJlay29 watch common hitting flaws and drills & the 7 steps to a perfect baseball swing should help you out. In my opinion your weights not back enough your knuckles are not lined up you want palm up palm down through your swing also dont worry so much about the back elbow being out so much that is old school & there is no proof to that helping at all to anyones swing imagine that you want to turn first hip explode and this will get your hands in front of bathead & inside then swing

  • looks a lot like a brett gardner..looks good

  • Wonderful. I call this type mechanics "automatic-step". Albert Pujols, Jason Giambi, Adrian Beltre, Mike Piazza, Ken Griffey Jr..etc. Step happens automatically when you try to accelerate your bat from hitting stance. Step, stride, load, hip rotation, weight shift... all of these are automatic movement taht happens when you try to accelerate your bat from hitting stance. So you need only to do just one thing that starting your swing from hitting stance.

  • Comment removed

  • If you want, you can try keeping your feet closer together so you have more room to take more of a stride or a leg kick. Also, work on your balence a little more.

  • you do NOT have to be big to have power at the plate. your swing really looks pretty good. I would focus on making sure that your hips are completely open before your hands really get going...that creates bat speed. And bat speed creates power.

  • nice swing little man, keep working bro

  • Hard to have power that young.. Gotta workout

  • what i can see RIGHT away is that you are popping up in your swing. this simply means that your energy that is being created is moving in an upward motion, which isn't doing any good because the ball is not being pitched from over your head. i know it sounds abstract but try to eliminate the stride, and just move back and forth like a pendulum.that way your momentum being created will be transferred to the ball 100%.

  • Swing a bigger bat. The extra weight does increase distance. Just be honest with yourself and make sure you have excellent control of the heavier weighted bat.

You should lift weights to increase your overall body weight and strength. If you weight more, you will hit the ball with more power.

  • @squirttilithurts that's the complete opposite of what you wanna do. then the bat would be swinging him. smaller bats= more bat speed= more distance. Barry Bonds swung a 32 inch bat and had arguably the fastest bat speed ever. stick to a small bat

  • @squirttilithurts bigger bat thank you. exactly what i say

  • Read bat reviews to find out what bat is the hottest.

The graphics on the front and the name of the brand mean nothing.

Bats take a hundred or so swings to break in. After that, they don't last forever. They gradually get less effective.

You can also put a bat into a vice to break it in and get more POP.

You can pop the top off and shave the inside to make the wall thinner. I would have someone do this professionally. I imagine it would be easy to mess this up on your own.

  • Get into the position where you make contact with the ball. Keep arms and hands at that point and turn your body back into your stance. Notice that your arms DO NOT move much at all (only a few inches downward) relative to your body until AFTER making contact with the ball. You will also notice that your HANDS ARE WAY BACK.

  • get the hands further back on the load

  • Nice swings kid. I suggest you practice hitting the ball on the tee a little farther out in front and begin working towards strengthening your left calf so that you can load back and hold longer. Load sooner and longer. Watch my hacks. I'd love to offer more advice. Search: Michael Robles switch hitter

    Check this out as well.

  • You mentioned power. Think of boxing for a moment. A puncher's power is generated from the 'ground' up, through the legs. You miss completing transfer from back leg to front. You level off, twist, lean your upper body back and equalize weight to both legs at contact losing power. The transfer must move weight - back to front using the earth to push back against your lead foot driving power up and thru your body and ball contact. The Babe overdid it often ending on just his front foot.

  • This is a nice swing and some good advise ...dont know what adjustments you have made but try keeping your feet just inside your shoulders and stride into the ball , your striding in place meaning you pick your foot and put it down, this causes your hands to come forward to soon, , also get your right elbow pointing up which will help with not rolling over to soon you need to square up on the ball, Pujos is a freak and not the norm in MLB hitting at your age a stride will generate momentum

  • Hi, I m also working on my son`power swing, I analized Brice Harper` s swing and I got to the conclusion that going back with the front food will help u to load better and then come forward transfering the weight of ur body to ur swing ,that will help u to get the acceleration needed. any comment on my son`s video is welcomed.

  • wait on your front foot means a good weight transfer, he sits back good enough too. i bet he's taught to swing down on the ball which is ddestroying kids in their improvement in hitting

  • Too much weight on the front foot..Pulling power away from your swing.

  • @mobilitytoday isn't just about all of ur weight supposed to bne on your front foot?

thats why pujols has his foot off the ground at contact

  • Josh Hamilton Swing ??

  • Nice swing.... Please check out my son swing and give your input.

  • Try and keep is front should closed in a little bit long. When it flies open the swing path slices up. He will hit the other way better too and with power. His rotation is nice, but the swing path is slicing under the plane of the pitch. But other than that, that's a good rotational swing

  • Also...hips and shoulders need more separation. Again hands back, staying back will help.

On every pitch, even outside ones, you should stride & launch and prepare to bump your hips; even if you don't swing. Get used to your hips moving first and your shoulder (upper) trailing.

Finally, if you stride two inches, you should launch about the same amount.

If possible, video tape yourself self-toss hitting. It's natural to throw your hands back (separate) while waiting to hit.

  • Hotcorner might be on the right track.

I think the lack of separation (launch) of his hands might be the power drain. He doesn't appear to be getting the bat behind him enough. This may also be the reason he's prone to hitting line-drives. There isn't enough time for his bat to incline towards to downward pitch.

Launch position is anywhere, even an inch, further from the starting position. It'll help prevent shooting down from the shoulder and get the bat behind and then up the pitch path.

  • Acquire "TED WILLIAMS" book THE SCIENCE OF HITTING" study it, learn what great hitting is all about transfer his great advice, photo's rotational diagrams & swing approach to contact to your approach.

Put a tee beside your left leg learn how to hit the ball up the middle & to left field, at point of contact use your hands, pull the knob back towards the catcher, throw that top hand straight to the ball, spread your hands 3 inches apart & flick your hands forward & back over and over.

    Don Ervin

  • You're leaning back way to much, causing you to lack plate coverage. Let the ball travel until and then distribute your weight with your back leg. This is where you will get your power. Pause the film at the exact point you make contact with the ball and you can see how far your hands are extended from your body. If u let those balls travel a little bit longer the extra base hits will start to jump in your stats.

  • I'd throw u outside breaking pitches all day. You fly open(which is normal for Lefties. Like myself) but you gotta fix it and you stride is to big and your bat needs to be high or you won't hit the high fastball and you wonder why low and inside us your favorite pitch.

  • Bring your feet a little closer together, and work on driving your back knee to the front through the ball. Here's an analogy your lower body is like a car crashing into a telephone pole. When the car hits the pole, the pole doesn't break and the momentum un the car wants to keep going forward. So your front leg is the pole and your back leg is the car, keep your front leg firm and work on driving your back knew towards the front and keeping your momentum going forward.

  • 5 quick steps kid:

    1. Do some weight training (preferably with medicine balls)

    2. Keep your feet in a little bit closer and have your backfoot closer to out of the box, That'll allow you to get more force when going for a ball.

    3. Keep your hands back for more velocity and it'll increase force (F=MA)

    4. Eyes on the ball all the way through.

    5. Patience it won't come overnight, keep working !!!

    GATA

  • too rotational. keep hands a little quieter.

  • You have to have some drive in your swing. not always a stride but its necessary to shift your weight forward in order to hit for power. Watch anyone in the majors, they all have a drive forward.

  • Take a little more time watching porn on Youporn.com, Grow up a little, Then quit baseball!

  • No, your hands are already back. You don't have to go back to go forward. It is your lower half that is off. You need more momentum transfer into your front side. Don't be scared to go forward. As long as you aren't going forward once your front foot lands. Upper half is fine, power in directional drive kid! Trust me, I coach in the minor leagues and we work on breaking the stationary rotation every day from hitters.

  • @coz2114 Would you break down my swings please?

Search: Switch hitter smashes line drives

  • Nice smooth swing I'm about your age and I saw you loose balance a few time after your swing I think yu should keep yur back foot planted a little more and not twist it so much... Also yu should throw your hands at the ball I saw you droping your elbow a little bit but all in all solid swing

  • Im not an expert but as a pitcher I can definitly say i would throw outside pitches to you. Your hands dont extend through as well as they should. Work on hitting oppo field so your hands extend more. remember to drive the knob of the bat towards the ball. watch the hands of the pros when they swing. youll see there arms get more fully extended. its hard to explain cuz im not really a hitter but ive been taught to see hitters weaknesses. ask your coach or trainer how to extend more.

  • Send me an email and I'll show you how to increase the power.

    crjedwards@aol.com

  • let your hips be your power really fly them open....and end of the bat right at the ball

  • dropping your hands right before balls thrown.

  • Tks for the comment. Totally agree watching pros swing helps. I started watching Pujos to get to this point. I have heard from others to raise my hands a little and will continue to monitor that piece. Right now I am either rolling over or hitting line drives to opposite field - just can't reach the gaps!

  • @kcennis5 alright well your swing is far from perfect you lose all power cause you dont use your hips at all you just fire them then use all hands. also dont try to use the pros to help you cause your have no where close to the physical ability they do and thats not a low blow on you that goes for 99% of the baseball players. but i do like your swing as a whole. how old ill have more once i know that

  • @kcennis5 watching pros swing is a recipe for disaster. this kid is too wide-based, no forward body motion, using his weaker upper body, all arms/shoulders.. ignoring his stronger lower body. no lower body torque. typical poor coaching

shorter base, closed stance, hands behind front shoulder. step & torque. this kid has no batspeed whatsoever. bad. if he makes it, he will not look anything like this when he does.

  • @kingcoach13 I've seen some of your comments on these videos and you are out of control. Everything you just said contradicts itself. Short base will cause you to work outside your feet if you want any drive at all, Closed stance blocks your back side from getting through the ball, hands behind the front shoulder cause you to work around the ball and make your swing longer (longer equals slower, less bat speed means decrease in power). Way off base! I hope you're not actually teaching this...

  • Using the internet can really help too. Look up the swings of guys like mauer, arod, braun, etc. and learn from them

No 2 swings look alike, but you'll notice that they all have similar mechanics

  • Looks pretty good.

Definitely need to load your hands a little more if you're looking for power.

Also, I think you should raise them a little, and swing down on the ball a little more.

But when I say swing down, I don't mean a choppy, straight-down swing, you will still swing up at some point in your swing.

Every good swing starts off going down and comes up at contact.

Swings that come up before contact typically produce a lot of pop ups and rollovers

  • Tks for the comment and agreed - working on that with 5 meals a day diet including protein shakes and weight training

  • kid needs to bulk up

swing is fine mechanically but he just needs to add some mass

with time the power will come trust me

  • I would focus on doing both, just make sure your upper body doesnt tense up during your load while you are experimenting with it because that can actually cause you to lose bat speed instead of gaining it. I see that happen all the time when a hitter is looking to gain power in his swing. Just stay relaxed and the power will come

  • If you are in search for more power, you need to focus on creating a little bit bigger of a load in order to generate more energy and create more bat speed. The overall mechanics of your swing look good but if you notice your hands dont move from where they are in your stance to the start of your swing. so maybe just that little tweak will help you find what your looking for.

  • @hotcorner3424 thanks for your comment (makes sense) - should i just slide my hands back or do you think I should turn my shoulders and/or hips more.?

  • @kcennis5 slide your hands

  • @kcennis5 Stay comfortable with your stance. love your timing and rotation. if you want instant power take your right arm and make it a little straighter. dont completely extend it but make it strong and long.

  • @hotcorner3424 I will appreciate any comment on my video. Parents usually are blind when correcting mistakes on their son.I am also working on produce power. thanks
