I always took it that he wasn't changing the earth's rotation, merely that while he was going back in time, the earth appeared to be rotating backwards. So basically he fixed all this stuff and then went back in time WHILE he was fixing all this stuff, and then saved Lois and I guess...somehow didn't encounter himself.

@VohnExel Exactly right. Pet peeve of mine that people actually think he turned the world and that made time go back... it was obviously the other way around, the Earth only rotating backwards from his perspective since time was reversing.

@jacolby65 The only thing I never got about that was why Lois suddenly had no gas and the earthquake had stopped. My guess was that maybe Superman did more than we saw when he went back in time.

Actually I was talking to someone about this and what would really happen. Due to the fact the earth stopped so suddenly 2 things would happen. Everyone on one half of the planet would reach Escape velocity and shoot into space and the other half would be smashed into something resembling pancakes. I can try to give the logic behind that but let's just say it wasn't me who was the braniac with the facts in the conversation.
