Maybe the beer went bad....you guys should probably go out and buy it fresh and then rate it...I've never tasted it but would like to know an actual impression.
@BESTIACRUEL8 It might have been skunked, but I'm not convinced that it was. I didn't think it was that bad. Not sure why they guys were so negative about it. However, it's a seasonal so we can't buy it and re-review it until next summer.
hey guys, you do know the difference between scotland and australia?we wouldn't drink that limmey shite,so why put our name at the top.love the show, looking foward to go back over your past reviews
@AgileHProductions hhaha that was very cheeky.it was australia day on the 26 hence the drunkenness, who am i kiding?alcoholism is encouraged down here!
Hoegaarden would probably be one of my favorite summers just because it's so freakin easy to drink and tastes well too. Last Laugh by Choc is another good summer wheat ale.
@MrDonamus The last Hoegarrden that I had wasn't impressive, but I'm not sure that the bottle was fresh, so I am going to have to revisit it at some point.
@kyral210 This beer is not brewed in Newcastle. That's what feels weird about it. It seems like the corporations attempt to cash in on the Newcastle name internationally.
@AgileHProductions bugger. Will tell you this though, I was in Newcastle the other week, and the bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale tasted VERY good there, better then when im down south. I wonder if its a beer that travels badly...
@kyral210 good point, not every beer travels as well as every other, and some are much more sensitive to environmental factors. maybe newcastle's brews are delicate if they're not moved gently or stored carefully.
Sierra Nevada Summerfest is a solid choice on my end. I usually drink a lot of wheats and wits and IPA's anyway, but Summerfest is a lovely "Summer Themed pilsner" for anyone's palate.
@thomasmino I think I will have to try the Ommegang witte. I find that to be a pretty impressive brewery so far. Did you see that you were mentioned in the latest AskJames?
@Progfan2010 We review all different types of beer. We don't just stick to our favorite styles. We aren't beer experts and have never claimed to be. We are focused on learning about new beers with an open mind.
If this was shot in 2010, at the infancy of Better Beer Authority, do you think your tastes might have changed. Then again. I feel the same about all of Newcastle's beers. All of their beers are skunked. I've never had a Newcastle that wasn't skunked.
Oh man....havent had this(and never will unless it's the last beer available somewhere)...but you guys need to review Newcastle Winter IPA...worst...beer...ever
But a beer I'd like to see you guys review is Carnegie's Stark-Porter....I've had a couple '06 vintages recently and it's in my top 3 beers
the brewery is Carlsberg Sverige out of Sweden...not sure how tough it is to get, as the only place I can get it is at a local craft beer bar in Norfolk, VA....probably 95% of the stuff they carry can't be found anywhere else local
I really wouldnt be surprised if it was skunked considering it IS January. I drank a lot of this at Pitchfork Music Festival and it was HOOOTTT outside. It wasnt terrible and it wasnt the best beer ive had, was very drinkable though. But even regular Newcastle is very "meh" to me. I will say it was much better than the Heineken which is what I had to suffer with once it sold out.
@MrCrim123 This review was taped in Summer of 2011. The beer should have been fresh. It could have possibly been skunked when shipping. Honestly, I did not think it was as bad as the other guys. It had an initial off-taste, but it was drinkable.

I fell in love with Breckenridge Summerbright Ale last summer. I'll ship you a couple bottles if you can't get it at Kenny Rd.

@LandmarkMediaInc I'll have Dave pick some up for you at Kenny Road. It seems like he hangs out there a lot.

I actually like newcastle beers, but ONLY if it's on tap. Newcastle from the bottle is too skunky to be enjoyable for me.
FrogJon 1 month ago
@FrogJon This one comes in a brown bottle which should fix that skunky taste that is found in Newcastle Brown because of the clear bottle.

I had this beer fresh and hated it. I was expecting something similar to newcastle regular but was wrong.

Why bother reviewing a summer ale, anyway?. Summer Ales are by definition easy drinking, refreshing, think-of-no-taste-style.

@brandon0409 Sorry. I meant Summer of 2011. It should have been fresh when we shot it. It was mailed to us. Not sure if that affected flavor.
