That wasn't a taunt. It was a nod, an acknowledgment, to Streisand. She was snubbed because many didn't like her. He showed her respect, and it appeared that she appreciated the gesture and the sentiment.

The movie wasn't that good to deserve a best picture nomination, much less best director.

I think that the Academy members showed her enough respect with the best picture nod.

Anyway, nominating pictures but not their respective directors is something we see often.

I don't think he did it to taunt Barbra... he did it to taunt the academy who obviously recognized the greatness of the picture but who snubbed the woman at the helm. I remember this bit vividly from the night it aired, but this is my first time seeing it since. Thanks for posting!
