  • Why couldn't Brotherhood have felt as grim as the first series?

  • EMOTIONAL MUCH????!!! :'(

  • Nina!!! :'(

  • Ed crying when he sees the wall, wailing, only for it to fade into the ending song, which made me even sadder because they made it a tribute to Nina with pics of her, Alexander, and Al and Ed :(

  • God, this makes me remember Nina and Alexander....

Why do I cry so badly for someone I know doesn't exist?

  • @daymansot17 Why do people get so mad when Snape kills Dumbldore or when Dobby dies? We connect with the characters because they have a depth to them that makes them real in our minds :)

  • I'm crying....

  • what does atonement mean

  • @skawo4 repaying for something bad you did like stealing......or raping your sister, either one works

  • @skawo4 Paying a price for your sins

  • .......Nina....................

  • i invented my own religion= ALCHEMY

  • isn't this the music where Hughes gets shot????????

  • @penguinpiebizzle I believe so? It sounds like it would play in a scene like that one!

  • @TheLivingangel123 Actually, this plays in the scene where they find the remains of Nina and Alexander after Scar killed them.

  • @penguinpiebizzle I think that was the song called Aishou. Or do you mean the funeral scene?

  • @LightningAlchemist1 whats Aishou but i was talking about the exact moment when he got shot ;)

  • @penguinpiebizzle This music was when the brothers found Nina and Alexander's remains after Scar killed them.

  • Oh Lord, this bring back memories. O_O

"Night of the Chimera" was the first episode of FMA I ever saw. And I watched it alone. At midnight. In the dark...

The thing about it though, is that it remains one of my favorite episodes of all time of TV shows period. I can't really explain how fully it impacted me. The unease that something wasn't right, the growing sense of dread, the realization of what Tucker did, the implications of human nature... it was perfect. Masterfully executed.

  • @Joyride37 Dang...what an episode to introduce you to FMA! Saddest episode ever! It's one of my favorites as well. I keep going back to it to watch. It's so powerful of an episode. Just when you think Ed's day can't get any worse, it does. And Nina's death hits really hard. Even though you know it was probably better for her than the alternative, it's still really sad that that even had to happen. Beautifully done, as you said.

  • @Joyride37 Really!! The first FMA episode I ever saw was either the first or third! And I was about 6 or 7! And on top of THAT, it was past midnight and I was the only one awake at the time, and to make it even better, it was at the part where the transmutation of their mother was going totally wrong! I was SO freaked!!

That episode was very... it brought out a lot of emotions in me when I first watched it. It was really a great episode! The one you're talking about!

  • I think "sloth" in this case refers to the Elrics' sloth: rather than facing the hard reality of their loss, they sought a cop-out in order not to suffer anymore, not to face their pain. In turn, Sloth herself doesn't want to face her own human origins and seeks to erase all trace of it by eliminating the remaining connection to her past: her children. So for selfish reasons, they want to avoid the burden of their reality, hence the "sloth" moniker.

  • The saddest song from the saddest episode of a TV show...OF ALL TIME!!!

  • @Thewalrusface even then, dbz partly takes place on earth, and FMA takes place in a paralell universe, as amestris is based on germany.

  • I loved the original FMA just as much as brotherhood. The original FMA had a mostly scientific view. Everything could be explained, but brotherhood was more supernatural than anything. Man, both series has some awesome moments

  • "God, I understand now. The reason my brother gave me this cursed arm, so that I can find the alchemists who have fallen from your path. And with their own demon arts, destroy them..."

  • @Benjiman133 Scar is so amazing, especially in the end :'(

  • @Benjiman133 scar

  • I had Nina's sudden death spoiled for me, but honestly, its really shocking that Scar would actually kill her when she was helpless. But I blame her father for what he did; Scar was only giving her the mercy she deserved. Still really upsets me though...

  • @emmeg516 well he did have a reason to kill her

  • Almighty god who shapes us all, please return these scarred souls to your unending womb.

  • nina... :''''''( her dad was such a bastard

  • NIIIINNNNNAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Call me stupid, but I burst into tears everytime I hear this, Nina's death was so devastating to me TT_TT

  • @DHHMia I won't call you stupid, the first time I saw her and Alexander's death, I just cried and the next few days, I couldn't believe they died.

  • Scar........

  • The composer of the original FMA is to Fullmetal what John Williams was to Star Wars musically speaking.

  • i just looooooooovvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeee this song *crying* *continues to cry*

  • "Brother... Brother... I want to play..."

When Nina died I was soo sad.

  • Nina's death really shocked me when I saw it for the first time, I didn't fully realize that SHE died, but then Edward started crying, I was reminded of the times the Elrics had with her, and yeah, I cried as well...

A couple days of disbelief followed after the death of Nina & Alexander...

  • TOTALLY agree with Smokingfox3. I loved the original series for it's raw, realism. Brotherhood had more of a fantasy aspect to it, not to mention it gave everyone a happy ending. The first series sheds some light on how cruel the government is, and it's terrible influence on the suffering world.

  • @CrazygurlNajah I have to partially disagree with you. FMA gives an unrealistic view about how real governments operate. It's fiction. Real governments are nothing like FMA. Many are worse, but some are much better. I would consider our (the USA) government to be far better than the one in FMA.

  • @NoogahOogah There are such things as different types of government. What you see in FMA is more like a dictatorship- Notice how they say 'Führer Bradley'? In Germany, that means 'King Bradley.' More evidence that FMA's government was a dictatorship, and that's been seen before, so it IS a real government and not just a badly constructed anime one. but I agree with you there, USA government is a lot better than FMA's...

  • @endorianki Well, I mean, right. I knew all that, but I still don't think it's a realistic dictatorship either - don't get me wrong, I'm not defending dictatorship by any means.

  • @NoogahOogah haha no, lol, of course it won't be a realistic dictatorship if it's run by a homunculus. But I get what you mean.

  • "Looks like some alchemist deconstructed her, but who? Guess it doesn't matter anymore..."

  • death to tucker

  • beautiful[sob]

  • i still can't believe tucker is still alive poor nina and alexander

  • @soul2blade what does tucker still being alive have to do with nina?

  • @idunnononame after what he did to his own daughter he deserves to die but his still alive

  • @soul2blade He still lives in the first series. But not in Brotherhood. He got what he deserved.

  • @Sungetsu15 ya but the thing is i watch the first fullmetal first it was a little confusing watching the second one but i'm glad that they got tucker killed RIP NINA

  • @soul2blade i actually preferred the 1st series in my opinion it was just made better and the story was much more focused...i did like some parts of brotherhood though like the part that tucker gets what he deserved he's just too cruel but i think it kinda ruined the 1st series a bit

  • @xjuakjux lol i totally agree mate cheers!

  • @xjuakjux Actually... the story was more focused in Brotherhood than it was in the original FMA. In the original FMA, they were on a quest to recover their bodies, then they find the Philosopher's stone, not knowing where to go or what to do. Then Ed gets into an alternate universe, Then he comes back. Then he gets himself sent back--

In any case, the series lost consistency at the point where Dante introduced the idea of the alternate universe.

  • @seg162 i thought quite differently-i liked that there was an alternate universe for me it just made things a lot more interesting and made more sense about the source of their energies for the transmutations-at first it was a little confusing but once i got around it-it was just more pleasant

  • @seg162 my thoughts exactly

  • I remember this song playing when Ed and Al find the remains on the alleyway wall of what was a chimera of Nina and Alex. he just breaks down and cries. this song just grips ya in the saddest way. I felt sad when Nina died.

  • "its not healthy to bring the ones you loved back to life edward"

    "why not?!"

    sooo sad V.V

  • @TheSorrowfulSoul1 "big brother?"

  • @Zebrakindom "IM NOT LIKE YOU! IM NOT"

    again sadness :(

  • What i love most about FMA is it's unapologetic view of the world. Not every hero lives, not every ending is happy, not every romance blossoms ect ect. It shows us a flawed world, which makes it feel much more real.

    At least to me :]

  • Agree100%. FMA is the best anime ever IMO.

  • @Smokingfox3 that is so true that and the strong bond of family between ed and al are probably two of the things that resonate with me most

  • @Smokingfox3 This. Happy endings are the worst ones because they are predictable and cliche.

A great story always has to have its own ounce of tragedy.

  • @asianskunk5 True. I have loved every single sad ending I have come across, because I never expected it.

  • @Smokingfox3 that's why FMA is really the greatest. Even though their powers and abilities aren't realistic,

the characters and their world is.

  • @Smokingfox3 But Ed and Al have to get their bodies back! They can't be stuck like this forever!!!!... ='(

  • @Smokingfox3

    Explained it perfectly!

I didn't get that with Brotherhood; it was trying to tell a story that was great in it's own right, but it was very unrealistic.

  • @Ericanious i understood brotherhood well.

  • @Ericanious How was it unrealistic? Compared to what? Our world? Pretty much any Anime is. This is a world where people can clap their hands together and make shit happen with really no scientific base to it. Kimblee. Greed. Roy. All of their alchemy does not work that way in real life. So what are you compared it's realism to? In the world of Brotherhood it's perfectly realistic. Just like shit in DBZ. It's perfectly realistic with in it's own world.

  • @TheWalrusface

Everyone has sins in the original series, the characters act like humans. Edward Elric KILLS the homoculi, which are his enemy. In Brotherhood, he wouldn't kill even his most horrible enemies. It's unrealistic.

In Brotherhood, there's a ton of good guys with no real development or backstory, and most of them all are good people and that's it. That's what I was saying.

  • @Ericanious And you're completely wrong. I hope you know that. He wouldn't even kill his most horrible enemies? For one he killed Father. For two that was his resolve. To make sure he didn't kill anyone. I agree I liked it better when he did kill them but it's by no means unrealistic. They even make it a point several times to explain that. A ton of good guys with no real development? Roy? Ling? Maria? fucking Edward? Any of these ringing a bell to you?

  • @TheWalrusface

You don't have to be snarky, I know this is the internet and it's easy, but you can discuss things without sarcasm or offense. Ling had no development at all, he just became someone else, lol. Edward didn't develop, either, he wanted and did the same things from start to finish in Brotherhood.

In FMA he was conflicted constantly with equivalent exchange, and even came to the conclusion it may not exist. FMA felt human, Brotherhood felt heroic.

  • @Ericanious If I am "snarky" do forgive. I was just in a conversation with some person trying to tell me how great Anakin skywalker is. That's not true either about Edward. He wanted and did the samething? So he used a Philosophers stone to get their bodies back like he set out to do? No he didn't. He changed and realized he will not use other peoples lives to get what he wants and resolves to find a better way to do it. I'm not saying FMAB is completely better FMA did do some thing better.

  • @TheWalrusface

I agree, and I guess some change did occur; I forgot about the philosopher stone reveal since I knew that since 2002, haha. But I just prefer the first anime, as flawed as it is, I feel it's a better representation of life and science, and prefer Ed's more cynical attitude, and depressing atmosphere. To me, that's just more realistic. Either way, this franchise can do no wrong.

  • @Ericanious You're viewing it in a different way than I am. That's why we disagree. You're not looking at the flaws I see you're looking at it in a completely different way. Yes the first one is more Cynical and dark that's not why I think the second is better. The first one made no fucking sense in a number of things. Like the Humonculi their sin names are completely meaningless. Why? A lot of the stuff in FMA does not add up. Which is why I like FMAB more. Because in that it does.

  • Comment removed

  • @Ericanious You do realize you're reaching right? Sloth moves constantly. Especially in combat. Those fuckin whip movements she makes? She has no hint of it in her personality at all either. Also with the Pride example it shows that he represents the sin but not that he embodies it. Not that he IS it. Dante takes Pride in him. He's the figure head of the state. But how does that do anything with HIM on his own? Like in FMAB he took Pride in the fact he was a Humoncules and looked down on Humans.

  • @TheWalrusface

Sloth was the only reach, haha, the only real way she was slothful was she really wasn't all that interesting, and was a water elemental for some reason, not that Pride having shadow-blades with eyes teeth makes much more sense, I suppose. =P Again, his pride aspect was clearly his position and son, and fittingly, like most/all of the homunculi, it led to his end.

  • @Ericanious Pride in FMAB did show his Sin in his personality which is what I meant. They don't have to reflect through their powers. Like Lust. She has the "Ultimate Spear" or Greed. Their powers have nothing to do with said Sins. but in FMAB Pride constantly looked down on Humans and referred to them as inferior beings. The other thing I noticed is Father had it all planned out Dante didn't really I mean with the Humonculi she only created Gluttony and Pride? She just lucked out on the others.

  • @TheWalrusface

As did the Fuhrer when he was pride, though, wouldn't you say? He constantly manipulated the entire government into creating a philosopher stone. Also, I gotta admit, two corrupt lovers using the stone for eternal youth just has a dark romantic feel I totally dig. Dante wasn't a big mastermind, no, but for being as small-minded as she was, she was quite the bitch, haha. Reaching further, spear is quite sexual, and shield to protect only yourself is quite greedy. =P

  • @Ericanious Spear is quite sexual? Really? You want to explain that one? Or just that it's long and hard...and..sharp? He didn't manipulate the entire Government. Dante did through him. He was just a puppet president. The other thing if I remember correctly. Creating a Humoncules requires human transmutation which requires opening the gate....So Dante saw the gate..three times? How did she survive? She needed the stone to keep swapping so it's not that. It doesn't make enough sense.

  • @TheWalrusface

I'll leave the great mysteries of war tools and sexuality to your imagination, haha. Oh, but he did; Pride even manipulated the Elric brothers and all state alchemists into making the stone. His entire purpose was to oversee and cultivate production of Philosopher stones through the nation for Dante. I still say he was just as Prideful as the Brotherhood pride. Actually it's likely she could use the stone for multiple things, as it's implied she used the same one for awhile.

  • The humonculi don't represent their sins? Lust misleads countless men in both FMA, in fact, she destroys an entire village, by tricking an alchemist and having an affair with him. Gluttony is fat and eats people. Envy envies the elrics. Pride is the figurehead of the state, Dante's most valued facade, her pride, nation's pride, has pride in Selim, his "son". Wrath makes everything a weapon, always fighting. Sloth rarely ever moves, not even from her desk, lol, appeals to empathy in combat.

  • @Smokingfox3 Like Louie

  • @Smokingfox3 YES YES!!!! you are so right!!! But ya know I never saw that till you mention it, thank you for opening my eyes

  • @Smokingfox3 and then there's the time-space travel, alchemy, and so on and so forth XD

  • "You poor thing. You're a sin against nature and your body is in so much pain."

  • WAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Nina and Alexander!:`(

  • three things come to mind:

    1: Nina

    2: Alexander

    3: the words fuck Tucker

  • @DragonHeart956 totally agreed!

  • i feel like crying. porr nina and alexander

  • i love the scene when ed is crying, actually, i love watch ed get hurt and so on XD (ofcouse i love seeing him happy and so on to.)

anyway, he is so cute in tears! <3

<_< aah. i love this soundtrack to, so beautiful.

  • do you have the song when ed fights against greed?

  • yes it's called dante's theme

  • I cried.

  • they play this song at the end of "Night of a Chrimera's Cry" episode when they find Nina and Alexander's remains and Ed begins to cry.

  • I was just reminded of Elicia at Hughes' funeral and now Nina (two very good episodes, btw). I usually feel sad enough to cry like two tears (It takes a lot to make me cry), but I'm trying so hard not to sob right now.

  • soo saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad T______T!!!!!

  • This is when they find Nina's remains and that's about it.

  • raisin

  • No, Fate was played at Heugh's funeral.

  • Comment removed

  • sad and beautiful

  • Anyone know where the song takes place in the show?

  • Is this not the part where Ed finds Nina's ramains - it sure feel like that.

  • yeah i think so...

  • Wouldn't it be when Hugues dies?

  • Not sure

  • @InTouchWithBertJ That's EXACTLY when it plays and the ONLY time in the WHOLE series.

  • i think maybe when Elysia was born? hmm i don't know not sure

  • @animefreak171717 Nah. It's when Ed and Al find what's left of Nina... (also, why thumb this down because they're wrong? >.>)

  • OH yeah i remember

(yeah i know O_o it's not like i trashed the song, it's a beautiful song so really!!)

  • This plays when Ed and Al find Nina's remains,

  • @DrHank07 I won't lie... tears are burning my eyes, remembering Ed peeking through the alleyway... Vic played that scene so well... *sniffle* And then it led into the next episode....

  • @DrHank07 Gosh, that part... no, that whole episode... was just so depressing. =(

  • @DrHank07 Ffff... TT^TT That still makes me cry.

  • At the beggining of this song, it reminds me of "Somewhere over the rainbow."
