The strings, from sixth to first (thickest to thinnest) are named E, A, D, G, B and E again. That's just the way it is. He is hitting the low (thick) E and skipping the A and hitting the D. Just like he said in the video. No mistake Luca. When musicians refer to the Low E string they are refering to it's pitch not the fact that it is lowest to the ground when you hold your guitar. Just google up some guitar string lesson on the internet to check it out.

the reason it never sounds right is simple.

not many people know this but first of all this song "this riff in particular" is actually not played with a pick,it's trickier that way to because you have to do alternate picking with your thumb and you pop 'as in pull kinda up and out like your playing a bass and even even though it's a little bit trickier I believe you start with an upstroke 'with th the thumb.

other than that the way he plays it is right.

Ah. I actually think you're right. I listened to the original and his tone definitely has too much edge. When you get the motion right and comfortable it's almost feels like you're just pinching the A and D strings, and the tone is definitley closer. Thanks for the tip.
