The Biggest move for me was, from Hershey Pennslyvania (where the chocolate comes from) to L.A. It was a big move but I was really ready for it. A smallish town is ok to grow up in. But I really needed a bigger more liberal area to expand as a person.
Two and a bit years ago I moved from Lithuania (that's in Eastern Europe) to England. It's a bit different than moving from Canada to Australia as you not only have new places but also a different language, completely different people, culture etc. It was difficult for quite a while but now I'm really glad I did this because I think I learnt a lot and grew as a person, and I can't wait to move to London in September (I live in York now). Hope your move goes well and you like your new place! :)
@spickinpower Oh wow! That would have been a really interesting experience. I imagine having to learn a different language in order to function would have been pretty difficult o_o
@TheGiraffeHat There is a cultural difference but it's not too bad since Australia is heavily influenced by the US, and Canada isn't super different from the States anyways. It doesn't take too long to adjust. You need to change a few things in your vocabulary and get used to different products in the grocery store, but yeah, it's alright.
I moved a lot as a kid as well. And even though my family and I have been in the same house for four years now, my brother and I constantly switch rooms.
I have never moved but when I get older I'd like to move all of the time. I do get attached to things though so that might be interesting.
I'd love to have a job where I don't really have a permanent home, but move aboudst. Like a journalist for national geographic or a humanitarian, work for the peace corps. Something like that. I'm not really sure honestly but I have plenty of time to get dieas.
@lidiluvu Mmm, it is hard when you get attached to things/places, but once you leave it's usually okay after the first little while because you're so preoccupied with getting to know the new place. All of those jobs would be so amazing for travelling, I hope that you get to do it! And yes, plenty of time to figure it all out.
@hollysheadspace Yes! I actually didn't know until I asked my mum before filming, I was like 'Whoa! are you sure?!' haha. Yay for Australian family =D You have a good excuse to visit this country now ;)
i've never moved, not even as a kid! I guess that sounds weird to you but I have been harvested a small plan to move to several different countries in my life too ^_^
@DisfiguredUnicorn Well it would have been nice getting to grow up in one place, so now when you do move you can be all nostalgic about it and go back home and remember childhood, haha. Also, you have a definite place to call your 'hometown' or an answer when people ask where you grew up! Good luck with your plans to move overseas! Make it happen =)
I've lived in the same house my whole life. I would love to move though. Something new, something different. Moving overseas would be incredible but I think I'd find language barrier a bit daunting if I moved to a non-english speaking country. Good luck with moving house :)
@ironsword7 Yeah, language barriers can be a bit discouraging when planning where to go, but I still want to move to several places where English isn't the first language. The idea is really exciting to me, and I would be forced to learn some of the language of wherever I am. I hope you do end up moving somewhere exciting and different =)
I think I've moved about 20 times. Several places in Saudi Arabia, Cypus, Gibralter, Malta, Northern Ireland, Holland etc... But ended up in good old England. Where I live, you miss after a few months, but after 24 hours you think 'what did i come back for'. But I'm lucky, I live in the most beautiful part of England, just outside the Lake District. I'm pretty fortunate really.
@4svennie Yay, 20 moves! The places you've been sound so interesting. Hopefully by the time I'm at my 30th or 40th move I can add a few impressive places like that to my list ^_^
I've lived in about 7 houses in 5 states. That was when I was little and my parents were in the army so I don't remember many of them.
I do want to travel a lot though; japan, australia, scotland, just around this country(US). Not for like vacations though I want to stay in each of them for like years.
@dravarian26 Yeah, I want to stay in most of the places I go for a few years as well. Good luck with your future travels! Don't ever settle for one country when there are so many out there =P
I've moved lot's of times too. Never spent more than a few years in one place. I've gotten so used to it that when it looked like I was starting to get comfortable and settle down in one spot, I joined the military. Not quite ready to stay still just yet.
@thefrOgimmortal I can understand why you took action to stop from settling down. Staying in one place sort of becomes scary after moving around for a long time. Maybe someday it'll feel okay, but not anytime soon haha.
Yeah I've moved three times. Once when I was a baby so really only twice. I'd like to move to different countries when I'm old enough to :) Once or twice a year, like you said :D
wow i cant imagine moving so many times. I live in the same house my dad grew up in. so kind of the opposite of you :P I dont really want to move lots, but i wouldnt mind a couple moves in my life time. move to a bigger city for a while, then back to a smaller one, to raise a family. etc...
@rainkilledmynova We kept all our boxes from the last move in the garage, so we're sorted for now, will probably find somewhere to keep them again after this move, they aren't too bad if you can stack them neatly haha.
I would love to be in New York. Quite sure I'll end up living there at some point.
I've moved at least 8 times, not including moving in and out of dorms. I've only lived in five states, but we've moved houses a lot.
Other than Alaska, I haven't really lived on the west coast of America, so I'd really like to try that sometime. I really just want to travel a LOT, whether it be touring or something. i don't know. i just like going places.
@Milllie91 Moving away to college for you first move would be kind of scary. London sounds exciting, good for you =) Uhmm. Packing tips. Wrap fragile things in newspaper? haha. I don't know really. I start with all of the things I don't use often and just pack them all up and write on the boxes. I try to keep out things I will need right away or use during the move and pack them last somewhere easy to get at. Good luck!

It would be a nice change to move every once in a while. Though I've grown attached to the one house I know. D=
Is there much of a cultural difference between Australia and Canada?
