@HerlockSholmes123 actually in his time this wasn't a popular type of music. G minor isn't really all that happy, but not necessarily dark. but it does have a tint of hope. I agree with you there. (sorry this is all after you guys had this convo I just started playing it today in orchestra and thought I'd share.)
Magical Composition! Wonderful! Wunderbar! It is an undying Masterpiece of the most Uplifting Music brought into being ever! I acknowledge and thank you for sharing this fetching and uttermost Artwork.
@HerlockSholmes123 And I don't think his D minor Fantasia is dark at all - quite the opposite. But that might just mean we have different definitions of "dark" when it comes to music and that is because we are two different people, different personalities, different pasts behind us. Such things affect how we experience music.
@HerlockSholmes123 Yes, quite obviously there is some hope in it, but on the whole - if you listen to all four movements - it's absolutely a dark symphony. To me, at least. And music can be elegant, unique and beautiful at the same time as it is dark. And that is the case with this work.
I totally agree. Especially the 2nd movement. I remember myself travelling through Germany years ago in a winterly landscape, listening to this music. I associate this adagio with a winterly landscape, as you did and I did know anything about Mozart's grief. It is the language of music! Very nice and well chosen images.
My favourite piece of music to get my house work done -quickly. I just love it!
