@bebill2 nah not 5 years, but say if a general was running out of ammunition and sent the orders back to britain to get more ammo sent. it would take about 3 weeks for the orders to get to Britain and then another 3 weeks for the ammo to actually arrive in America. so we were in the shitter from the start really.

@SANDSTORM0801 It was infact the SBS joint with a small handfull of Delta Force, they got it wrong, but yeah, pretty much, Delta Force pissed off, apperently we got the Grid Reference wrong, did we bollacks.
@SANDSTORM0801 Uggh, no SAS were involved with the mission at Tora Bora. SBS had some peops there to support the USASF (US Army Special Forces) and Delta, who eventually led the mission. Read the book by Dalton Fury. That is not to say they were not mentioned (think SEALS in Mogadishu) but the SAS would have had about as much of a chance as Delta did. Love the SAS but Delta and Special Forces did a stand up job in Tora Bora.

Special Forces were around before the birth of christ (archers etc). However, the modern perception of the special forces originate from the founding of the SAS in 1941.
All other special forces may be able to trace their routes back further; however, they are not what we would consider "special" in todays terms, that being you must have prior military experience to apply.
The RM date back to 1664, but were only a maritime regiment of foot at that point and the Modern Rangers to 1942.
All modern day Special Forces can trace their origins back to David Sterling's vision of a special force that goes beyond the normal remit of conventional warfare. Likewise The US Ranger can trace their origins and many like it back to that of the Royal Marine Commando's, We've been doing this shit hundreds of years before we colonized your lands.

@magyash im British. by "200 year old war" do you perhaps mean the war for independence? (actually 300 years ago). if you are referring to this war then the yanks dont really have anything to say. we beat them in pretty much all but 2-3 battles. the only reason we lost the war was: 1) because they had help from the Frogs and the Clogs (dutch) 2) Britain also had to think about its other foreign colonies such as india and china. so troops would get to America late. not to mention the orders.

@SANDSTORM0801 Uggh, no SAS were involved with the mission at Tora Bora. SBS had some peops there to support the USASF (US Army Special Forces) and Delta, who eventually led the mission. Read the book by Dalton Fury. That is not to say they were not mentioned (think SEALS in Mogadishu) but the SAS would have had about as much of a chance as Delta did. Love the SAS but Delta and Special Forces did a stand up job in Tora Bora.

Special Forces were around before the birth of christ (archers etc). However, the modern perception of the special forces originate from the founding of the SAS in 1941.
All other special forces may be able to trace their routes back further; however, they are not what we would consider "special" in todays terms, that being you must have prior military experience to apply.
The RM date back to 1664, but were only a maritime regiment of foot at that point and the Modern Rangers to 1942.

All modern day Special Forces can trace their origins back to David Sterling's vision of a special force that goes beyond the normal remit of conventional warfare. Likewise The US Ranger can trace their origins and many like it back to that of the Royal Marine Commando's, We've been doing this shit hundreds of years before we colonized your lands.

weapon for the job. Please remember that American and British special forces fight side by side and back to back, I was wrong to denigrate Delta force for 1 idiots mistake. I was angry at people taking the piss out of the SAS. From my perspective American forces have the best weaponry and equipment money can buy, British forces have the best training money can buy, if you got our training and we got your equipment we would be damn near invincible. Both our country's troops are dying in illegal unjust war's to profit the puppetmasters, Bankers and Corporations AIPAC etc, in this country our dead are welcomed home as hero's and rightly so. they follow their orders tro the end.Both nations troops deserve support. but the war,s they are fighting do not. We need to take back our Nations as it says in your constitution for the people by the people, not for the Bankers and Corporations
