06cummings92.....yep, your about right. a nice, boring leisurely cruise on the highway i can get like 11-12....but allowing it to have some freedom, i average around 9...haha. thanks for the comments

how can an 8.1L only develop 350HP my friend has a nissan 350z that gets that from a 3.5L V6.

@syncmaster710n14 First of all the 350z only came with a max of 300 hp and second this moter has 450 foot pounds of torque. Dose your friends datsun have that?

@pj5454302 450s a bit of an overstatement its only about 420 and thats only if you have the 4.10 if you have the 3.73 rear end its only like 360 or so so your better off going with the vortec 6.0 if you get 3.73 gears

@GMCownsall is the 420 tq number factory? is it RWTQ or CRANK TQ? and then doesnt the 6.0 produce diffrent numbers with 373 vs 410 and another thing wouldnt the 8.1 w/ a 373 still be faster than a 6.0 with a 373

no i haven't.....would be interesting to see what it has.....i'm guessing 340hp...not too sure cuz its stock rating is 330hp, but i have aftermarket exhaust.

I bet with some engine tuning, and some performance parts, or updates, it easily can reach the 500 HP mark .. and if you put good performance parts on it, it'd probably also be better on gas..

Because the new GM VortecMAX gets 367BHP ( and also gets 19mpg) out off 6 Liters of engine size, so this one can reach 500 easily...

@dualexhaust2500 Yea a Tuned 8.1 can easily do 500HP, but who wants Horsepower, its all about what the Torque Meter reads and these things are Torque Beasts, with the right tuning and computer programing(LQ motors are twins to the LS's, so you have lots of programing stuff out there) can easily surpass 600 TQ.

@dualexhaust2500 should be right around the 340 hp range, I have an '02 2500HD, ext. short box, run Magnaflow high flow cats & 18" glass packs, duals of course, and threw on a Hypertech Hypertune, and according to that, i'm putting 342 hp. to the ground, but, it's from the box, so lol, might not be as accurate as I think it is.

@GMCownsall right around the 300 range. but, in '04 or '05 they dropped the hp down to 330 for emissions. the 6.0 stayed the same I believe until they switched body styles in '07. And there's an absolute110% I could be wrong too on how long the 6.0 stayed around the 300 range for the 3/4 & 1 tons. I know in the half tons they bumped them up to around 345ish?(VortecMAX & Denali's) lol I'll be square with you, i'm going off the top of my head from what I can & can't remember after '03.

@GMCownsall The older 6.0s like 99-02 were about the same horsepower and like 360 tq i think after that they bumped it to like 360hp and 380tq for the 6.0 so those would be like 03-2012
