  • Back when America came out with top fuel dragsters which were running 3 and 4 second 1/4 mile times, many racecar builders from Europe said that these dragsters could not be classified as cars for the mere reason that they didnt know how to build them yet.

    there have been sub-4 second passes on the "1000ft" restricted races following scott kallitas death (where the shut off areas are short)

    (1000ft instead of 1320ft)

    there have been sub-4 second ROCKET car ETs in the UK by sammy miller

    you need to do more research

  • I apologize i meant 4 second. America had the first 4 second dragster and was criticized by Great Britain until their technology caught up.

  • I doubt anyone criticised a 4 second ET, dennis priddle (UK) held the front engined world record for many years, we have the same technology here as they have in the states, but the sport is not so high profile, next weekend there is a 8 car top fuel field running in a major meeting. BTW, the swedish company CBD now produce and supply carbon fibre top hats (bug catchers) used by most USA TF and AAFC teams, and a new clutch dsigned/built by a swedish team is proving a success stateside. thanks

  • I understand that Europe has the same technology NOW, but Im talking about when america made the first 4 second pass and claimed the unofficial title of the worlds quickest CAR. At that time nobody else in the world had the technology to make a CAR that would go that quickly in the 1/4, so they (UK) criticized them(American made drag cars) by saying that they were not CARS at all. Your welcome.

  • and i think you will find that the NHRA (and the FIA therefore) ban any other V8 in top fuel, when the aussies came up with a quad-cam engine the NHRA banned it.... besides which, a TFX hemi is nothing like the hemi it was born from. The yanks are catching onto european engineering using the Leanders clutch and CBD air scoops/intakes too....

  • ahem-it was americans that came up with quad cam top fuelers first which was banned as have many engines been banned. fact is the quad cams engines were never faster anyhow. lastly why not band together and form your own santioning body as theres no way i (being an american) would run a class that forces me to run a different countries powerplant.

  • not in the least. those V8s used in europe's top fuelers were designed and built by americans your heads, cranks, rods etc. etc were all built in the good ole U.S.

  • dont be silly, there have been "Rails" (i.e. dragsters as opposed to doorslammers or funy cars) all around the globe, don garlits and tommy ivo ran here in 1966, front and rear engined rails (dragsters) have been built everywhere, id like to know who it was claimed eddie hills dragster wasnt a car.....you make me larf...
