  • this is soooo cool! great work!!

  • @00:34 what the oh my e a eh

  • I think it's actually really cool to hear a very traditional Indian style of music done on what are considered to be more so western instruments. It gives it a very interesting sound that I think I like quite a lot. lol

  • really unconventional and curious method of slapping..pretty incredible though nonetheless

  • 4:05 that's so epic

  • god hes good *_*

  • wow the guys from metro pcs can sure play music

  • im spending 5 min of my life to enjoy watching this great video players .

  • Reminds me of funk fingers, awesome!

  • I really like the style. :]

    Very different.

  • awesome sound, excellent players. I would have liked this guitar part to be heavily washed through a massive tape echo. full eastern head bake :-) But thats just me.

  • That was pretty good.

  • dayum....

  • Tunings?

  • Awesome video, I'm off to try that on my bass now! =D

  • Wow......this is amazing stuff!!

  • Very good played ! Very interesting methodology.

But sometimes the electronic tampura seems not to be in the correct note.

  • That thing that the bass player does around 4 mins just blew me away O.o

  • @Ketchapoern101 Oh yes, was a bit down on this 'till that break at 4 mins. Why is it all about the bass ?! Love what the guitarist is doing !

  • i think they are amazing, but i think each instrument is better off on its own. i dont feel the bass and guitar meshing well during most sections

  • The bass player is awesome, but the guitar is cool as hell too.

    Nice job!

  • osamas, osamas everywhere

  • that was woah...awesome o.O

  • Are they Indian?I know its a stupid question, but just curious.

  • @LostMusicalMeanings yes but also called hindi or hindus

  • @yonatanyoni83 all indians are not hindus, and hindi is a language. Hundus are people who believe in hinduism which is a religion and hindi is not spoken in the south of india from where Jayen comes. (He comes from Kochi, Kerala)

  • @Yonatanyoni83

Wrong. People from India are Indians.

Hindus are Indians of Hindu religion, just as there are Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain Indians.

And Hindi is the official language of India -along with English- and is spoken chiefly in North India and Central India.

Jayen Verma Ji comes from South India, where Hindi is not the main language at all.

Always verify your thoughts before writing something.

  • this is beautiful, Id love to hang wit that guy

  • I love this.

  • this isn't slap.similar to tapping.you can call a bird "plane" but it still remain a bird

  • Incredible musicians. Does anyone know the name of the guitar player as well?

  • @jazzartjazz its like a moog or something like that its like a synth or w.e

  • everything about this made me fell good.

  • I was on Jayen's site and he suggests that this technique will work well with metal. Can you imagine Jayen playing with someone like Virgal Donati. Oh my word it will sound amazing. Not that this doesn't sound amazing. Great stuff Jayen!

  • @terreseco - yeah back in the early 90's we had a super fast slap player who slapped to a speed/death metal band - sounded awesome.

I like Jayens guitarist on the number as well - oozes Indian heritage :)

  • @TheBenderblender DId he use this kind of technique?

  • This ROCKS!! I love it

  • Both of these gentlemen are virtuosos. Phenomenal playing. Bravo!!!! Most impressive. Best wishes, Lee Negin

  • Nice, I wish I could grow a mustache like you dudes!

thank you, keep on feeling the groove man!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's a hair "scrunchy". Works well; it gives a very slight muting effect (this doesn't take the place of YOU muting!). Vic and Reggie Wooten use them a lot in their videos.

  • I love what you're doing man! Good job guys.

  • I love what you're doing man!

  • The extremely original unique bassist. But playing is really tribal & wild style. But with all his originality, can he play even the most common patterns (of sequence by 3-ds for example) like Pastiorius did very fast & clear only with 2 fingers? This bassist has very clanging sound, he is not from a classical double-bass school. Don't prefer that bass style.

  • Amazing !!!

    Peace.

  • ha haaaaaaa, great! :-))

  • ha haaaaaaa, great! :-))

  • wow

    that was amazing o.o

and your slap technique is very interesting

  • utterly amazing

  • Dat be funky butt boys! Respect! Peace Out!

  • Fuck all the racist assholes, music is music no matter who, or what is playing it.

Keep political incorrectness out of here, music is the only us as humans can share globally, does it really matter that they are not of the same decent as you?

This is fucking awesome by the way =)

  • What us the thing that is at the top of the neck of the bass? Is it a sweat band or something that you are using to mute the strings that you are not actually trying to slap??

  • this is effing cool

thnx for the link sir :)

  • Thanks for the explanation of your slap bass technique in the link

  • they both look like cheech

  • OMG AWESOME! I LOVE THE TECHNIQUE ON THE BASS!!! OMG!!!

  • Great playing!

If you don't mind my asking, Is the technique you are using on the bass similar to Gattam technique, or more similar to tabla?

    Respect.

  • is there a name for this type of slapping?

  • @SGExplorer Indian Slap Bass

  • @SGExplorer slap bass is slap bass, doesnt really matter what you play it with, as long as its one of your fingers, some people even use their plams.

  • @SGExplorer slap bass

  • @SGExplorer @SGExplorer well, fusion might be the best name. He's using right hand drumming style techniques from mridangam or similar training. It is an interesting way of playing similar to the way Tony Levin uses his funk fingers -mallets attached to his fingers-. If you are familiar with the carnatic drumming material you'd be able to hear the distinct drumming phrases. In one of his other clips, he's doing a vocalization that will show you how to hear it, ta dhin kita taka dhin na, etc

  • @SGExplorer and last, learning these rhythmic styles of north and south india, you can really expand your vocabulary on the melodic/rhythmic instrument combinations. I play guitar and tabla/kanjira and frame drums. To me they are now all about the same. I don't lose melody by drumming, nor the rhythmic concepts by picking, tapping, slapping, or whatever.

    Thanks Jayenji, great stuff.

  • how did ya get that bass effect?

  • What kind of bass is that?

  • That was fucking kickass. I like this combo.

  • woah

  • The only good thing to come out of islam right there.. Religious battle start here V

  • @gabrielusa911....Nice compliment....but, these guys are probably Hindu....by their names and the cultural musical context that this jam is coming from....I'd say definitely Hindu. If you're going to try and be clever...at least get the facts straight. Say it with me now..."Culture is good."

  • @gabrielusa911 (facepalm) hindu dude

  • @gabrielusa911 -- kind of funny... but a fucked up comment.. still kind of funny

  • mustaches

  • @AndThePursuit Most men from the Indian state of Kerala wear mustaches.

  • This is how I slap, someone told me it was wrong...

This video has given me a lot of renewed hope that I can get good at slapping.

  • This reminds me of early Jefferson Airplane...It is nice to hear this kind of creative energy....Keep it up!

  • hmm

    now thats a real something!!

    keep it coming!

  • awesome guy he is.....he was expert in tabla at first...den he turned in to bass...i think so.

be proud of bein a keralite!:-)

  • His style is *CLEARLY* heavily influenced by techniques that are standard to Tabla playing.

I play both bass and Tabla and the two go hand in hand.. The better you get at Tabla, the better you will be on Bass.

  • I play slap that same way sometimes! I always wondered if that was an "accepted" way to do it. I always did it just for shits and giggles.

  • @Machx72 Dude, there is no such thing as an "accepted" form of play, you play in whatever way you want, if it sounds good, it gets "accepted".

I play in a similar way, but i am not so good, working on it these days. :)

  • Yeah, saw this guy perform live just before kryptos the other day. Speechless

  • awesome; ownage :D 5*
