  • If you ever get the chance compare the dipstick from on 09' Cobalt to an 08' the one from the 09' is way smaller and next to impossible ot read IDK why they did that.

    Just a fun fact.

  • GM rocks

  • well my question is how do I repair or FULL RANGE LOW cobalt appears that it means if you can help me thanks

  • nice video. my girlfriend just got a 2006 and looks like she is counting on my doing it haha. once again nice video

  • thanks, i can start doing this myself now. i know another way to reset the oil life is to turn the key on and push the gas pedal down 3 times

  • My fam has nothing but chevys. and they are awesome. thanks for the video. 09 cobalt 2D.

  • @dan074life no problem

  • Now I can change my oil in the cobalt! Thanks! Never knew how placid piece came off! Lol

  • Good video man. Very enjoyable to see someone put together a straight forward video. Thanks.

  • Dude, you are awesome!

  • @MrMichiganian Thank you. I apprieciate it. but i'm far from awesome lol

  • I just purchased a 2008 Chevy Cobalt for my daughter.. As I went to buy a oil filter I couldnt believe what a lame design. The Cobalt is a good car but GM really cut corners. Even with eliminating a transmission dip stick. . Thank You for the informative video but I need to know what size is the socket for the filter cap..

  • @armyveteran1000 I understand how the design is different i didnt like it either at first but if it wasnt so easy I wouldnt like it at all. It works for the car i wouldnt say GM cut corners but it is different. As far as the socket goes its kinda of a special made socket to fit those filter caps. I got mine from advance auto.

  • @AlucardHD2500 It's a standard 32mm (or 1.25", it's the same size) socket. Don't use a deep socket, or it won't fit under the air intake. It's the same on any 2.2L Ecotec engine.

  • @armyveteran1000 You can use a standard 1 1/4" socket for the filter cap.

  • Thanls for the great video!

  • Awesome Video pal! Thanks a whole bunch you helped me alot. I can finally find out where everything goes haha. wooooo Chevy pride! lol.

  • @x12eign Thanks man. Not a problem.

  • Instruction video...the gift that keeps giving. Thanks a lot dude. I was a little disappointed in the owners manual saying to consult a service professional. I was like ya right, I've been changing my own oil since I could drive, but that oil filter is a little goofy. Cheers.

  • very helpful! thanks man!

  • @boxcar9306 No problem.

  • It looks like ur engine light is on?

  • @honda27crv It is/was It was a stupid emissons part that wen badt. It was a secondary air injection check valve. Fixed it though.

  • thanks for the demonstration:) very detailed info!

  • @alohagurl76 Not a problem. Thanks for the positive comment.

  • on other videos i saw people pumping on the gas pedal like 10-15 times.

does that mean anything to u?

i have a 07 Cobalt SS and im going to be doing my oil changes on my own.

  • @gabebokmaUSMC I know what you mean. I have to pump the gas to reset my silverado and my mom's trailblazer. An odd way to reset the oil life but what ever. I'm pretty sure like all cobalts the way to reset the oil life is the button combo as seen in the video.

  • If you wouldn't mind a question... on your fiance's 2006, does she have any problems? Is it a sedan? Because i'm a girl and i'm getting an 06 as my first car, and i've read a lot of bad things that happen to them. So if stuff does goes wrong, i'm screwed because i have no idea when it comes to cars.

  • @yurxyz I dont mind any questions. My Fiance's car is an 06 and yes its a sedan. She has an LT Cobalt. She bought the car in 2008 with 80,000 miles on it. It now has 101,000 and we have had no issues with the car. Im about to soon do a tune up on it. When you buy a cobalt check they're mileage and compare it to they're price. If you buy one with more than 80,000 and spend more that 8,000 for it your getting ripped off a bit. I love cobalts but they should have never done away with the Cavilier.

  • @AlucardHD2500 Yeah i'm gettin a 2006 with 68,000 miles on it. It's an LS though. Have you heard about the steering wheel recall? I've heard that a lot are pretty much lemons.

  • @AlucardHD2500 Yeah i'm gettin a 2006 with 68,000 miles on it. It's an LS though. Have you heard about the steering wheel recall? I've heard that a lot are pretty much lemons.

  • @yurxyz 4,900 is a great deal. My Father has an 08 LS and he's already go 90,000 miles on it. He never took the car to GM to get the Power steering recall fixed, but the car has had no issues. We took my Fiance's car in and got it fixed however. I see alot of Cobalts on the road. I've never had a problem with them in my experiance. I wouldnt go as far as saying alot are lemons though.

  • @AlucardHD2500 Yeah, thank you so much. :) Because cobalts are the perfect car for me, they're like the only ones I like, and I started to get sad because I thought I couldn't have it... You really helped a lot, thank you. =]

  • @yurxyz Not a problem.

  • @yurxyz They come with the recall, so all you have to do is take it to the Chevy dealership and they have to fix it for free. I had to do it with my 06. Other than that, no problems with it! Love my cobalt!!

  • @AlucardHD2500 Oh, and the one i'm getting is $4,900

  • Excellent video. My girlfriend has an 07 Cobalt and it's probably the easiest oil change ever. I run Castrol Syntec in hers because the 5qt jug is $21 at Wal-mart. It also surprised the hell out of me that a four cylinder like that would take 5qt's of oil! What filter do you use? I use Fram ExtraGuard, from Wal-mart as well. Full synthetic oil change for $31, can't beat that!

  • @TheTrhod Thank you for the good word. The cobalt in the video is my father's car. Hes very old school, so if its oil put it in lol. As far as filters go what ever works. Never used fram for a car like that. Yes i agree a very easy oil change it beats my Cavileir lol.

  • Hell yeah man this video was sooo helpful i dont know shit about cars this is great very much appreciated well spoken and very well directed thumbs up and subscribed...

  • @XxXgrim789 Thank you very much. Good word means alot.

  • im sorry but basicaly u need 5 quarts which means( 5 small bottles of castrol of 5w 30s)??? on cobalts

  • @superloco50 It was a staged production lol. But yes i used 5 quarts and the bottles looked small but they were a quart.

  • cool thanks for this video. it's the first time that I will do the oil change on my wifes car wich is 2008 cobalt too. we got back in April and it says 8%. but when I when to buy the stuff I was confused with oil Filter, thats why I saw your video. first time changing this kind of filter.once again THANKS.

  • @ksiyaskid Not a problem.

  • I've put 14k km (about 9k miles) on my 2010 cobalt LT, and the computer says oil life is at 5%, I'm thinking of taking it to the mechanic in a few days but is this normal or should I have done it earlier? DO keep in mind this is a right out of factory car we are taking about with full synthetic oil. I go it with 2 miles on it.

  • @nicoargca if you put nine thousand miles on the car, and it is only at 5%, that's awesome. usually around 4-5000 miles on my father's car is when the oil life meter gets low. synthetic oil, however, is the way to go for any car. What exactly is the conflict you are currently having with your cobalt?

  • @AlucardHD2500 I don't have any issues with my car but I was a little worried because everyone is always saying, you have to do an oil change every 3k miles etc, so I thought I must have damaged my car, (I'm a real newb, this is my first car), but I did some research and also thanks to you, I now know that 9k miles is completely fine and I should go by what the computer says. Thanks again man.

  • @nicoargca No problem, You got a nice first car. My dad drives his on the highway and puts well over 3000 miles on it before each oil change. If you run synthetic you can go awhile before a change. I went around 7000 with my silverado before a change and 12,000 with my cavileir lol.

  • Thanks a whole lot for this video thought i would have to take it to a dealer and i was getting pretty pissed when i talked to the guys who changed my oil for me and said it cost a arm and a leg to buy the "Special Tool" that i would need to change the filter.

  • @EternalDragonSlayer8, No problem, Now adays dealers will do anything to get money. Most common auto part stores sell the socket. beats breaking the cap off or taking it some where.

  • Well done. Thanks for the upload. Some ppl torque those filter caps to spec but as long as you're not crushing the damn thing, sounds good to me.

  • @Haze1694 thanks man, good word means alot

  • where did u buy tht socket for the filter

  • @IxLeGiTxI It was awhile ago, but i believe i got it at Advance Auto. Its better to spend 8-10 bucks on a socket then god knows how much on a stupid plastic cap. Thanks for watching!
