Hi Taren. I have a quick question. I wear these China Bumps aka Bantu Knots quite often as a style (like my picture). I cut my hair off and left like an inch or so and have grown it out for a year. It's a great length but not as long as yours.

1. Any tips on how I can maintain a grow my hair out longer, any products for protecting the hair??

2. What can I do to style my hair and get it big where it at least looks longer??

Our hair textures are very similar and I can never do a twist out without having to add rods to give it that bouce. My twist without the rods would be crinklely but limp and flat. I luv big hair so a plain twist out just doesn't work for me. Im glad I saw this using the Bantu knots so now I have an alternative to the rods that also gets stuck in my hair sometimes and it hurts to take em out. But anyway...Thanks Taren!

Thank you so much. I have what I affectionately call "bipolar" hair because it us super curly on the right side and straight/wavy on the left so wet natural hair styles to do not work for me. Trying desperately not to flat iron or curl so hopefully I will have success with this!

Yaay someone who feels my pain. I definitely feel like a lot of the natural hairy styling techniques that I have found are for women with kinky curly hair.... my hair is definitely fine, soft and curly... not kinky at all and twist outs have always been a major fail for me. I have had a lot of success with bantu knots. I usually do them with wet hair the first time and then dry knot them for the rest of the week. The first day is never my favorite but I always love how it looks on days 2 - 5.
