The MISTAKEN IDENTITY album did not seemed to be received well by critics. However, the dance beats are luscious. And this gem of a ballad sits right in the middle of the underplayed album. Perhaps not the best look for the diva.....but the song is just right
No. There is a video on Youtube where she describes how painful it was to her scalp when she bleached her hair. She also says that she will never bleach her hair again.
I'd like to see that video in question - I still disagree. I doubt that ANY of us have ever seen a picture of Donna without a wig. I would venture to say that it's always been a wig in the various styles we've seen; straight, curly, long, etc. All of the pics taken around the time of Mistaken Identity's release would have reflected the same color, especially if it was that length when it was bleached; they don't!
Donna is unbelievable! Her ballads were always her biggest strength. It's a shame that most people don't know most of them - only knowing what was her popular music. The pop stuff was always fantastic...but her voice on her ballads just sends shivers up and down your spine, and exhibit her amazing range, diversity, and vocal strength. Gotta love her music!
Casablanca really should have promoted her ballads in her hey day. I wish Donna could have fought to release more them. I always liked the slow beginning part of her fast songs the best. She does an amazing job on this song.
I have every album she's ever done and Mistaken Identity is one of her weakest (Cats Without Claws coming a close second). But this is a lovely song and she continues to be an amazing singer-to this day!
I am prejudice in Mistaken Id's favor, although I dislike the first 2 tracks, there are other great songs there too. Cat's W/out Claws is probably the album most representative of who Donna is as a person. It is more her and less Donna Summer- the Donna Summer image & sensuality, which is why I like it, it is one of my favorites. Both albums have their place amongst the others- just wish death in the family and a lawsuit hadn't hampered promotion of Mistaken Id.
Funny....I also cannot listen to the first 2 tracks on "Mistaken Identity", but I do enjoy the album as a whole. It was different for her. She took a chance, and with zero promotion, it flopped.
It had lots of poster and other promo art in the record stores at the time here in Toronto - just no radio play a la her SAW album just prior. I think had her promoters done their job like Whitney's throughout her career, Donna would have more than just dance tunes on the radio.
"Mistaken Identity" is my favorite album (ok, CD). From what I can tell, it NEVER got the appreciation it deserved...and this song is proof of that...This CD had at least five single-worthy songs. But that's just me.
I didn't know she sang this song! Regina Belle recorded this song on one of her albums and thats when i first heard it and it was amazing. But this one's better!
(if it WAS bleached, this could explain her absence in the 90's until it grew out!!) She does have naturally long hair, but I think she studied at the Cher School of Performance Looks.

She was very sick during this concert with a terrible, terrible cold. I am surprised she was able to sing at all.... but she did. :-)

I liked the last "ask me to stay" that the background singers added. That was cool. The blonde wig really did nothing for her, though did it?
Thanks for sharing!!

"Yes, I paid for it!!"
