This grill did not produce enough of a surface char. The steak appeared far overdone. The grill does not generate enough direct heat to accomplish what one wants when cooking a porterhouse steak.
hate to tell you this but the you had the grill upside down. those grates should be in a "V" formation. Also, you are NOT supposed to close the lid during cooking. It;s not designed for that. READ THE MANUAL before using!
Sorry, but the grill is clearly upside down according to 2 things:
1. The instructions clearly indicate that the grates need to be in a "V" formation -actually catching the juices, whereas he has them downward position (more intuitive, I agree) where the juice would drain in to the firebox.
2. Look at the edge pieces of steel where the grates are held in place - you can that it's the underside where the welding is and not the top "brushed steel" side.
I agree with your comments. about closing the lid.. You just don't grill a steak with the lid down. You're then baking it. You're cooking the interior too much while you're attempting to sear the outside. I think the grates were in the proper formation. However the steak never did get seared properly. With his topping, I wonder if you taste the beef?

Because of your T-Bones I went to Dicks Sportings Goods last night and bought a Ultra-Sear. 80 bucks! Thanks for your post, how about one showing your sauce?
