  • id never really seen much stewart lee, i thought he was ok, if id seen him more i might have become a fan... Now that i know his fans are generally such pretentious dicks i think he has dropped down to one of my least favourite comedians. ridiculous.

  • Oh God that woman is insufferable.

  • Stewart Lee looks like he's dying inside....

  • The only time I would marry an American woman, is if she was a mute.

  • wheres part 3?

  • Sean Lock's demeanor at 1:33, and the events preceding it, seem to indicate that : a) Sean Lock feels slightly embarassed or maybe self-concious in the presence of Stewart Lee for what he has just done. or b) Sean Lock feels distaste or contempt toward Lee, maybe viewing him as pompous, having seen out of the corner of his eye the reclining/sighing motion made be Lee. or c) (as is most likely) I should try to get some fucking sleep.

  • I fucking hate Gina Yashere, Daniel Sloss and every other young unfunny moron who attempts at comedy. Russell Howard I deteste also, I really can't see how people find what he says on Mock The Week funny, I shake my head in disbelief of it all. Get a fucking scientist in here to tell me how people find him the slightest bit amusing. Anybody can be funnier than him, please excuse me for saying this I'll probably regret it, but Gina Yashere has more of a chance of making me laugh than him.

  • @MrLooog yea russell howard is a twat, dara sean and frankie carried MTW and wasnt even that good.

  • do we think STEWART LEE wrote all of the funny autocue stuff that jimmy carr was saying...

  • The american accent is so bloody annoying!

  • @seldo123 You forgot Michael McIntyre. What a cunt he is.

  • Alot of susie hate. sheesh.

  • Hello I am 17 years old and I am interested in being recognized for the things that appear on my computer screen.

  • I fucking love how Sean Lock usually doesn't give a shit what people think but here he keeps looking to Lee it see if Lee finds it funny and looks a little disappointed if he doesn't, look at the bit aftr the flake thing

  • I don't get people who don't get Stewart Lee.

  • Stewart Lee is probably my favourite stand-up. Sean Lock has probably been in my favourite sitcom.

  • Losing my shit at Lee. You can feel the hatred enamating from him.

  • KD Lang's let himself go

  • wow...im american and i hate watching unknown, unfunny american comics on this show like this Susie Essman. Its maddening how obscure the american comics they use are.

  • @JapanJoe1 you obviously know nothing of good comedy

  • @woodenpaperful its obvious you know nothing of american comics.

  • @JapanJoe1 this woman is not massively famous, but she is known well by those who like good comedy. Your a fool.

  • Is it a coincidence that the 3 worst comedians in the country's names are all Russell?

It's not related to the video but most comments here are just ppl's opinions on other comics how them compare to Stewart Lee anyway.

  • I love Stewart Lee. Partly because he can just stand and sigh, and still be funnier than most comedians. Funny without trying.

  • well that was a waste of 9 minutes.

  • susie essman needs to shut the fuck up then an hero!

  • Sean Lock is very sharp and cutting on this show..a damn funny pissed off talented comic. Why then is his lockipedia live dvd so damn dire, its all over the place. This man created the amazing 15 storeys high also. Baffling imo. oh yeah Mr lee rocks4ever.

  • @thom8406 Both his stand-ups are piss poor IMO, surprised me as he genuinely seems to thrive the improvised elements of panel shows rather than the scripted stuff. And his sitcom was excellent as well, yeah.

  • Stewart Lee. A comedian who sits there and does nothin for 80% of the show. Taking yourself too seriously as a comedian is counter productive. He just killed the mood if anything. I honestly don't know how a person can be a comedian if they fail to get at least one decent laugh through a 20 minute show.

  • no part 3?

  • Stewart Lee must have left his quick wit at home then. Would be good if he didn't sit there like a bag of doorknobs.

  • Alan Cumming looked like he wanted to smack Susie Essman several times!!

  • Getting Stewart Lee to do this is like getting Lucian Freud to do Rolfe's Cartoon Club.

  • @wordtouremother Yeah, he's shit at it isn't he.

  • @TheEskimosPantry In a nutshell, yes.

  • I don't dislike Stewart Lee but many of his fans are some of the most pretentious people I've ever come across.

  • @Kazumaster Thumbed up your comment^_^

  • @Kazumaster Did you really have to put this comment on both parts?

  • @Anstisable I watched them a week apart and i guess i forgot i'd already left such a comment.

  • @Kazumaster You just don't appreciate good comedy (irony (ironic in itself since Stewart Lee's comedy is ironic and pretentious (Inception)))

  • if sean lock wasn't funny then he wouldn't be so popular and would have been fired/ left 8OOTC, you ruddy ruddy morons. its not "if someone is funny, then the person next to them can't be"

  • @TomTaichii Right, that's why Michael McIntyre, Andy Parsons and Russel Howard are more popular than Stewart Lee; because they're funnier? No. They're all awful. Saying that; I do like Sean Lock though.

  • women no talkie out of turnie

  • Susie Essman is what would happen if you made a negative of Stewart Lee.

  • It just seems like Stewart is being cut-off half-way between each joke.

  • With all the high volume bickery banter, watching Stu is a bit like watching Andy off Extras in the Big Brother House

  • Yeah, Stewart just doesn't have enough time to deliver those lengthy jokes punctuated by his signature tense pauses that make his stand up so hilarious.

  • @hustla96 I choose to ignore your irony and take your statement at face value.

  • @ProperMuzik calm down its not his fault your a cunt

  • Lee described this as "the worst professional experience of my life" in the Metro

  • @ProperMuzik Part the fuck 3 is fucking here: watch?v=K5fPiMOH6_I

  • Lee, Lock and Carr are the only ones here with more than half a brain. That's also the order of their comedy value (decreasing order of magnitude).

  • I'm a 17 year old boy, not all that intelligent and for some reason I love Stewart Lee's standup. I also really like Harry hill, Sean Locke, Jimmy Carr, David Mitchell, Franky Boyle, Lee Mack, Tim Vine and a few others. That, in my opinion, is a fairly broad minded view on comidians.

Now why can't we all just accept that we all like different things and mabye get together to hate really terrible comidians like Jack Whitehall, Andi Osho, Gina whatsherface and Daniel Sloss.

  • @seldo123 Liking a bunch of comedians who only really appear on TV doesn't make for a broad view?

  • @seldo123 Don't hate on the Whitehall, bitch :P

  • @seldo123 not forgetting jack dee

  • @seldo123 Gina whatsherface ruins Mock the week every time she's on it, with her talking and her face... but mostly her talking...and her face.

Oh and Thanks a lot for making me have to search Daniel Sloss..I lasted 1.20 seconds into the first video that came up, now I have to go find something funny so I don't go to sleep all depressed.

  • @seldo123 When you can spell the word comedian and also name a comedian from pre 2000 I will then take you opinion on comedy onboard but until then you can watch as many mainstream sub par comedians as you like and I will keep watching comedy gold created by comedy legends that you will never hear.

  • @Weeman44444444444444 Harry Hill, Sean Lock, Tim Vine, Lee Mack and David Mitchell are pre-2000 comedians, not that that matters you pretentious moron.

  • @GiantSandles No point in adressing a point that is entirely based on a false assumption, is there?

I never did that, and I have no idea where you got that from.

  • @GiantSandles Besides I find it retarded that you even imply an opinion can be "wrong".

  • who the fuck is jelling through jimmy at 0:35? no respect...

  • I cannot stand Susie fucking Essman!!!

  • It sure does bug me when Brits correct American pronunciation (though I understand Manford was using the correction for humorous effect). It's like a French guy attempting to correct the horrendous #nglish corruption of innumerable French loanwords, or a German letting you know that you really failed to stick to the grammar. The English butchered two languages long before America came into being. So quit it.

  • @niclasjt

There's a difference between loanwords and entirely changing the pronunciation of an entire language. A big one....can you see it?

  • @Surtak Like the French slowly changed Latin, given time? We're talking the adopting of a foreign language for the purposes of exchange. Only about 60% of the English lexicon is made up loanwords. So in terms of scale, you're correct. But remember that most Americans' ancestors were not British. Given that this has always been a melting pot or mosaic society, that American Eng. pronunciation is still familiar is somewhat surprising. American Eng. is no more "wrong" than, say, Scottish English.

  • @niclasjt

I never said it was wrong. I just think it's ugly :)

  • @Surtak Someone has to stick up for generalities and poor taste, right? Thanks for biting the bullet on that, friend.

  • @niclasjt I think- and I hope- that most of us do this to poke gentle fun. Like the pronunciation of alumin(i)um. Most of us are aware that the American pronunciation came first and we just changed to fit in with the traditional way of naming metals but we still find it funny to rant about Americans not being able to pronounce the word. Much like the way my American friends will rib me about my bad teeth even though they're absolutely fine.

  • I'd heard a lot about this infamous episode for Stewart Lee and to be honest, i thought he did alright...not hilarious, but if that's the worst experience of his career he's either had an ok career or the editors on this show helped him out a lot

  • Anyone who believes Stewart Lee is not quick witted needs look no further than his stand up, where he deals with hecklers in a calm, confident&hilarious manner, feeling neither threatened nor the necessity to belittle them. Lee is someone with slow delivery who lets jokes breathe, lets jokes slowly burn with an audience, and gradually builds them to a crescendo. That is his comedy MO. His comedy is not conducive to a show where everyone looks to jump across any break in your speech pattern.

  • @ryansilvatapsyouout plz hes not quick witted just slow and dull. He has no presents no matter how you word it

  • @ubernagash The BBC gave him multiple series of his own show, as did many other channels over the years, and unlike shows like this, Lee performs his comedy vehicle in real time and live without retakes and editing. As someone who used to make shows for the BBC, I know that takes something special, whether we agree if he is funny or not.

  • @ryansilvatapsyouout fair enough, live would be boring if we all like the same thing ;)

  • @ubernagash Shouldn't 'no presents no matter how you word it' be 'no presents no matter how you SPELL it?' or are you really spelling presence as presents? Stewart Lee is hands down the most brilliant, intelligent man working in stand up today and some shit primetime panel show that's targeted to the most common man in the country isn't exactly going to illuminate Lee's strong points.

  • @uuuuuuniggas no you are worng on the 1st account look it up, that being siad what are you a 12yr old doing spelling B, and no im basing my opinon on this show ive seen his stuff to say matt gray paint is not as dull would be an understantment, but if he makes you happy well good for you and apart from trying to pick up on spelling you almost had a v.mature reponce there well done you...... :)

  • Stewart Lee is the funniest man of all time.

  • Stewert Lee's his comedy is of a titly scripted, performance based nature. He is one of the most intelligent and funny semi-mainstream standup comedians working in the english langauge. The problem here is that no one on this show is funny. Its a terrible formate, only ever slightly boosted by the brilliant shaun lock, who is forced to work to the lowest common denominater in this context. Lee cannot be funny here just as david mitchell, brilliant on panel shows does not do standup comedy.

  • Yes it's easy for all you pseudo intellectuals to stick up for lee and say everyone in the room is beneath him and he's cringing, it's more likely to be that he's an unfunny cunt who couldn't get away with smuggly thinking he knows something that the other people on the panel don't know like he does with his stupid fucking fans, he's trying though the smug prick, hence why he keeps dying on his arse everytime he opens his mouth.

  • @TheAralih More than likely he's dying on his arse because the general level of IQ amongst 8 out of 10 cats viewers is somewhere between 20 and 'brick'.

  • @Cokeylata i understand your frustration, must be awful for you to see him being outwitted by comedians that you believe cater for the witless. He's a monotoned boring prick just accept it.

  • @TheAralih Nice one ;)

  • @TheAralih I completely do accept that. That's why he's funny.

Come now, though, he's hardly being outwitted simply because he's not as good as the other comedians at making his pre-scripted one liners sound spontaneous, is he...

  • @Cokeylata that's translation for= he can't rely on his own quick wit to out wit comedians you believe are for the lowest common denominator. nice try, nice try, would you like a shovel for that hole your digging?

  • @TheAralih Nnno? If you think anyone's relying on wit in 8 out of 10 cats, or indeed any panel show, then you're pretty harshly mistaken. Near enough the entire thing is heavily edited and scripted to make it look spontaneous so idiots gulp it down and incorrectly, attribute the quick pace of the show to genuine quick-wittedness.

One could fart uproariously and make a child laugh, it hardly means they're funnier than one who refuses to pander to them in that nature. Think about it.

  • @Cokeylata I honestly believe the only reason you like his comedy(if you can call it that) is because you believe it makes you high brow and anyone who thinks he's unfunny simply doesn't have a scrap of intellegence, the fact that they couldn't edit and script this unfunny fucker to be remotely funny here speaks volumes, all you yoghurt slurping guardianistas who enjoy being told what to like in order to be faux intellectuals can have him quite frankly,he's awful!

  • I've never claimed to be high brow, nor read the guardian. (though I do enjoy yoghurt- my secret shame!). Let me clarify- I dont really care if you find Stewart Lee unfunny, humour is entirely subjective, so you're cool to go on laughing at Jason Manford laughing at how foreign names sound funny or whatever it is that he actually does, doesn't mean there's anything wrong or low brow about you.

  • What I do believe however, is that Lee is objectively, intelligent and insightful and understands the intricacies and internal workings of comedy (though whether that imporves his performance is up to you); if you can't concede this due to whatever inferioirty complexes you have going on, causing you to lash out at the percieved 'pseudo intelligentsia' who genuininely do enjoy his work (subjective, remember?), then perhaps you should go back to reading the sun and drinking gravy out of a shoe.

  • @TheAralih no

  • @TheAralih He's not really being outwitted is he. Shouted over is more the appropriate term.

  • pretty sure lee respects jimmy carr, but genuinely despises manford ,pities the woman ,tolerates lock....represents all of our opinions ....they were lucky to breathe the same air as him and jimmy

  • @whitebigpolarbear From what I've read of his book, he's quite good friends with both Locke and Carr, actually.

Though, yeah. Probably hates Manford. Rightly so.

  • Susan Essen is annoying and embarassing. Rich Hall and Reginald D. Hunter are the the only two American comedians that appear on UK television that i'm not embarassed to listen to, and that make me want to hear what they say next!

  • Stewart Lee must be sat there cringing at Jason Manford's shallow obvious humour. Even more so when the clueless audience actually laugh at it. Anyone who's seen comics like Lee or Stanhope and appreciated them just can't watch quiz shows like this any more.Does Manford know how shit he is and is just doing it for the money. I'd accept that. But if he actually thinks he's funny he must be thick as pigshit.

  • Stewart Lee is a cynicist, he spots things people wouldn't usually in society and mocks the and IS funny ... the others are also funny, but this isn't Lee's home ground, stop saying x is better than y here as it doesn't matter. Just enjoy it.

  • I feel sorry for Stewart Lee here. He's a by far the best comedian on here, he's just been outnumbered by loudmouths.

  • mr lee dies on his arse again

  • This is why I'm here ..

July 2007, Lee appeared on the Channel 4 panel game, 8 out of 10 Cats,[19] which he has since described as "the worst professional experience of my life".[20] xD

  • @uarecheap pc? what about the 'vomiting into the gaping anus of jesus routine'?

  • i loev the way jason corrects her on patronizing hahah

  • if he seems pissed off its probably because of that fucking woman. im sure he has respect for the other comedians on the show and thats why he agreed to do it....even if he did need the money, and he doesnt like appearing on panel shows

  • " STEWART LEE'S NAME IS IN THE TITLE BUT THE OTHERS ARE FUNNIER THEREFORE I'M ANGRY AND WILL INSULT THEM AT RANDOM"

    No. stop it.

He's just not a one-liner comedian. His comedy is as funny as it is because it's absolutely, meticulously prepared in advance. I this case, he clearly hasn't prepared any material (either deliberately because he doesn't care, or he just hasn't been told the topics that will come up ) and is consequently not funny.

Stop flaming the other comedians for being funny.

  • Stewart Lee = genius. 8 out of 10 cats = amusing panel show.

Stewart Lee + 8 out of 10 cats = very uncomfortable clashing of styles.

  • @mrcakey Classic stuart lee dick swinger, climb off him bulbus bellend you miserable cunt

  • @Gapeman35 Shush now.

  • You can see the glazed over look on Stewart Lees face, thinking 'I'm only here for the money' it's priceless lol.

  • Just as a response to the stewart lee fans having a go at the other people on this show; lee in his book talks about his huge respect for sean lock as a comedian (says something to the effect that 'his presence on tv has helped him to get the audience he always deserved), and that jimmy carr offered to fund his first dvd for him when there were no production companies willing to do so.

  • @somerandomer People should be as nice about Jimmy Carr as he is about fat people.

  • @MrHennessy30 99 % of fat people are fat, because they eat too much crap and don't exercise. They deserve to be made fun o,f like everyone else on planet earth.

  • Stewart Lee has crabs

  • stewart lee is more funny than all of them put together they were lucky to have him there.

  • July 2007, Lee appeared on the Channel 4 panel game, 8 out of 10 Cats,[19] which he has since described as "the worst professional experience of my life".[20]

    Yep.

  • @caressedpackage stewart lee isnt even funny hes a fuckin knob

  • "...although Bush is a twat." LOL

  • Watching Stew on this is like watching Picasso doing finger painting with a room full of retards.

  • @bebosafetycow- doesnt seem to be too hard.

  • stewart lee great comedian in a room full of conversation hogs.

  • @edisdead1 Which is a very nice way of saying he didn't say much.

  • @edisdead1 Riggghhht. Some extremely intelligent comedians with plenty to say backed by successful careers are converstation hogs. A relative unknown with a couple okay jokes is great. If you say so my friend :D

  • crack open the back of your fridges, LETS FUCK THIS PLACE UP!

  • How ironic that she bashes the Queen and then the Bush family, but then goes on about how she's "sick and tired" of hearing celebrities talk about politics

  • Can a woman be a knob? That yank is.

  • Everyone should have shut up and just let Lee speak for the whole show.

  • Jason Manford is the worst common denominator, a fifth rate Peter Kay. Stewart Lee looks uncomfortable as he has nothing to work with these cretins.

  • @gargantuk So true.

  • Bad line up, but Alan Cumming is a legend. It's nice just to see him there.

  • This was quite a poor lineup but Sea, Jimmy and Jason held it together enough to be watchable at least.

  • Stew looks increasingly uncomfortable as the show progresses.

  • Good god I love Susie Essman! The stream of profanity that can come out of her head is astounding. I would like to some day attain her level of cursing proficiency.

  • like hell you could say that in the states! you'd be snipered before you even finish the sentence!!

  • isnt the patronizing bit now in jimmy's stand up?...

  • Stewart Lee is an outstanding standup comic, one of my favourites infact. However, seeing this just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Why he chose to appear on one of these horrid comedy panel shows is beyond me. Everyone is trying to shout over one another, it's downright painful to watch.

  • @deadheadchemist Well, to be fair, nobody would have to shout in this if that American would just shut her trap up and let the clever people speak. This is a particularly bad episode :/

  • @deadheadchemist I read that he said it was the worst experience of his professional career.

  • jason manfords team always wins evrey week lol

  • Sussie does not seem to have an idea about a lot of things"Nobody wants a bad environment" So what about companies that dump into the ocean all their waste either toxic or otherwise. Or a city like Las Vegas that is lighted up like a Christmas tree 24/7. Some people don't even give a toss about throwing litter or where that ends up let alone the mess it leaves on the street. So it appears that a lot of people want a bad environment. Sussie!

  • how did jason manford get a royal variaty performance after that??? lol hes a funny fucker.

  • have you heard of criticism/critical thinking/thinking full stop?

  • It's not like someone forced him to do it. And they only referenced Big Brother to take the piss out of it.

    Don't be so damn pretentious.

  • i agree with you. lee's too intelligent for this show.

  • Apparently he did that and NMTB to pay for his wedding. What a hero!

  • Stewart Lee IS funny, he just doesn't tell 'Knock knock' jokes. more of you may have uderstood him better if he did :P

  • I think his stand up style can be summed up in one simple quote:

'...so, there are jokes there. There are jokes. But some of you are going to have to raise your game'

    - Comedy Vehicle 2009.

  • @ROCKYMARCIANOXX0

What sense does it make to say "He is funny because I myself like comedy style A, but you lot like comedy style B so you didn't 'understand' him." I bet everyone understood his jokes, but some people just don't find them funny.

So as a reply to you, I've seen his shows and no, he isn't funny.

  • @whitebeam Why do you watch his vids if you dont like him? Purely to start arguments? This is the 2nd one I've seen you commenting on, what a stupid way to spend your time.

  • @comanchio1976 Why do I "watch his vids"? I don't, trust me. I only did just now, just to see if he might've been funny as that guy said, I wanted to have something to base my opinion on rather than just go around making insane assumptions like you do.

I need to see if he's shit or not to call him shit. And now that I've seen a couple of his vids, I can say for a fact; he's shit.

  • Comment removed

  • @GiantSandles The point is exactly that. He isn't funny TO ME.

The post I replied to implies that people don't "understand" his jokes, as in they don't get what's the point, whereas I for one do for sure, but they're not funny to me. It's not about not getting them, it's about not finding them funny.

His comedy is pretty simple, you'd need to be fairly thick to not get it.

  • Comment removed

  • @GiantSandles In. My. Opinion.

That's the point. I get the joke, it's just not funny, to me. The person who I replied to said people who don't find him funny just don't get his jokes, which is wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @GiantSandles If you're not defending it, I don't see what the point of arguing with me is. Because that was the only point of my reply; Them implying it's about understanding the joke rather than just not finding it funny.

Also; Now that I checked, I used "for a fact" just in the context of "I've seen his vids, so I'm not just saying this based on one video", to strengthen my point about it not being about understanding, it's just about different senses of humour. Not 1+1=2.

  • Comment removed

  • @GiantSandles If someone's saying "He's good" and I say "He's shit", it's obviously not hypocrisy. It's just opinions. Never said it's dumb to say he's funny, I said saying "You just don't understand his jokes, which is why you don't think he's good" is dumb. No hypocrisy here, son.

I accept the fact that OP said "He's good", cause that's just what he likes, it's his opinion, his taste in humour. Me saying "He's shit" is as accurate.

  • @GiantSandles @whitebeam you're both making yourself look like fucking idiots to the point where whatever argument you were trying to have is now invalidated, seriously, get over it, it's youtube for fucks sake, no one's ever going to 'win' an argument

  • @initmushblingbrap Because the argument was not ended '1 week ago', as the post dates suggest. Nope.
