My God, how in the WORLD did you get this footage? Wow. I love my Saints, but I'm glad I was only 3 years old and couldnt witness this originally. But how did ya get the WWL feed with Wayne Mack, assuming WWL had the radio rights.
I watched this game in '77. It was a great win and the Buc defense played great. They had been good all year and had came close to winning in San Francisco and Detroit earlier in the season. They beat St. Louis the week after this 17-7.
but they could go to the superbowl this year. i'm kinda pulling for them. my jags aren'[t gonna go there this year, so i'll pull for hte saints. i figure they deserve it.
bigphillyg* ok raheem morris. But i think you forgot about kellen winslow derrick ward earnest graham antonio bryant ronde barber and even more...... Coach morris did a great job with the defensive backs last year and he is pushing this team way more than jon did. If you think that we'll be lucky to go 6-10 next year than we'll be extremly lucky next year because i am sure that we'll do way better than six wins. And if not then forgive me for speaking.
two streaks were broken between these two franchises. not only did the bucs end their 26 game losing streak to the saints in this 33-14 win, but the saints ended their streak of 21 straight seasons without a winning campaign. that dates back to their inaugural season in 1967 and they finally got it in 1987 with a 12-3 record and a trip to the playoffs where they got upended 44-10 in the wild card game by a very hot vikings team that would make it to the nfc championship game.
It's nothing personal against the Saints, I like 'em. Unfortunalely their a divisional rival. I was just trying to prove that the Bucs aren't the absolute worst NFL franchise. It upsets me that they rarely get kudos for anything. Everything that the Bucs do well is often un-noticed because of that pesky 0-26 record. I love and appreciate my home team and I would just like America to agree that the Bucs are a legitimate and contendable franchise. No disrespect, unless you like the Rams, lol.
A great milestone for the Bucs. Archie was our MVP for the day. For a team that is a decade older than us, you would think they would've had more trips to the playoffs. Sure we went 0-14 our first season and lost twelve more to boot, but we were merely an infant of an organization. The Buccaneers are NOT the worst team in NFL history or most loosingest for that matter. The Saints, Falcons, Bengals, Seahawks, and Lions are worse than the Bucs.
Best and Worst fans are all just matter of opinion. Plus, I did look up the Bucs and Saints records and both teams come in pretty close. Bucs with a record @205-310-1 and Saints @262-375-5. I have to admit the Saints do have a slightly better season record (Bucs Wins @39.7%, Saints Wins @40.8% - Bucs Losses @60.2%, Saints Losses @58.5%).
Post Season, however, is a different story. The Bucs are 6-9, including a Super Bowl Win. The Saints are only 2-6. So the best thing to say is that they are better equals. Unfortunate for the the Saints to not have a Super Bowl Win though. Go Bucs!
I was referring to the Saints vs. Bucs all time record. The Saints are up 20-14 in the all time series. This is just my response to anyone who compares Tampa and New Orleans b/c it happens all the time. Once you get the better record against us, then you can talk. Also, enjoy your 1 superbowl b/c it cost you alot. No playoff wins since that game and none coming up anytime soon b/c you paid too much for a coach who is going to be fired soon anyways.
you can refer to regular season all u want. but it is playoffs and superbowls (or world championships before the days of the super bowl) that matter when comparing franchises head to head. bucs can scoreboard the saints in those departments no question.
I hope u hang that "we have beaten the bucs 20 out of 34 times in the regular season" banner up in the silverdome and see how your fans react!
We don't play in the Silverdome moron. That was the Lions' old dome. We play in the SUPERdome. You obviously don't know your football. And as for the regular season not counting, of course you would want to throw it out...you don't want to remember your team going 0-14 and 0-26 overall as a start. Bucs have 1 superbowl win, so yeah you got me, b/c 1 is SOOO much more than none. Doesn't matter though b/c the bucs will be lucky to go 6-10 in 2009. Raheem Morris? Give me a break...We own you.
First Buc win EVER, the Saints were so ashamed that Hank Stram was fired after this loss! Before this game, the Bucs were 0-26, having never won a game until this day, a terrible offense to go along with GREAT defense!
Old school football. Things were so much better back then, before everything went to talking trash and acting "hollywood". As for the extra point missing so badly...I collect old Browns games and you wouldn't believe how many extra points were completely shanked back then. The straight-on kickers had horrible percentages and when they missed one it usually looked like total crap.
Thank you! 12/11/77 remains one of my favorite days ever in sports due to this game; amazingly, this clip is the first time I've ever seen clips of the actual game, how did you manage this?!
Great times - all of Tampa ripped on Johnny Carson, they won their first home game ever the next week (17-7 over the Cardinals), and still got the #1 draft pick.
As a result of the Saints losing this game, Hank Stram was fired as head coach after the season. Ironically, the Bucs beat the Cardinals the week after that and that game saw Don Coryell lose his job as Cards coach.
I looked it up, its the late Frank Glieber doing the pbp on TV, Emerson Boozer was the color man. Glieber died in 1985, did NFL football for years with CBS.
I saw this game on TV. All the breaks finally went their way...much to the Saint chagrin. The coach for the saints was Hnak Stram and he got fired for losing this game. That is funny because later Hank did all of the Bucs game announcing he could, even the preseason games and almost a Buc homer calling the games.

Wrong. Saints have the all time record against the Bucs. Look it up. Bucs are a terrible organization with the worst fans in the NFL.

Whats Wrong, Upset that weve beaten you Iggles now 3 in a row? Bet you cant stand to think about that 62 yard FG.
Saints finally reached an NFC championship game in 06. Bucs had been to 3.
Thats what he meant. Not head to head.

this is been the luck of the Saints pretty much for 40+ years.
Even when fielding the best teams possible in the NFC back in 87 and 91, they still had bad enough luck to lose badly in the playoffs.
