The problem with christianity is that it was hijacked by the totalitarian Roman Empire, and hybridised with Sol Invictus, Mithraism, Zoroastrianism, Neoplatonism, and any other folk belief in the region until it made no sense, hence the need for "faith", (otherwise known as "shut up and do what you're told, slave"). To say that the New Testament states that Jeses was real, or to point out that historians and scholars also believe it to be true, or indicate that early believers were willing to die for their conviction of Jesus's life, is still not compelling evidence for the real, living, human Jesus.
