I make 32/hr but that's only because I've busted my butt and fought my way up the skill ladder as a mechanic.
Would I work even if the dollar is devalued and was worth very little? I think I would. Devalued wages would still pay my fixed rate condo payment.
If it gets too bad though I'd quit and buy a place next to my current bug out location and start raising chickens (& fixing farm machinery for barter goods). My modest collection of PMs might be enough to buy such a place outright by then.
the current scam is to get people to invest in gold/silver ETFs rather than physical.
ETFs are a bullshit scam designed to con people into accepting paper thinking they have bought physical gold.
ETF audits are closed to the public. Records, let alone the gold, cannot even be viewed by investors as per their rules. Basically they don't have jack for gold.. the vaults are empty and legal terminology in their prospectus absolves them of liabilities if fraud is discovered.
On July 14th, Bloomberg reported Greenlight Capital Inc. hedge-fund switched all of its holdings in a gold ETF into physical gold bullion during the second quarter. One of the big insurance companies recently bought physical bullion. Also, check out stellaconcept's video on anomalies in EFT inventory; it's a scam like you said... watch?v=0uE0otlk4dE
For those that believe that there should be no minimum wage, I do understand that part of the argument about not having the government, acting as a third party, involved AT ALL.
But, what price is paid when jobs are shipped out, quality of products and services wane, and crime rises with desperation?
None of the people arguing one aspect of the point really care to address the other aspects.
Peter Schiff weighed in and I'm not sure what to think of him anymore.
How many more people are there now interms of population and how many products and services are securitized ?
Are you seriously suggesting the barter or a finite commodity based system?
Isn't the purpose of money to facilate virtous living and productive growth. People also lived in caves happily for thousands of years why do you live in a house ?
this is what they dont teach u in school... your money is losing value every second of every day, inflation is the silent killer, the best way to protect yourself from this is to buy silver & cold, your money will actually hold its value and actually go up over time
Just have to ask...since you seem to praise gettin' a resourced based economy asap.
The happiness/material wealth graph isn't showing up to me as very linear. - It takes quite little to be happy.
So how do you see a resourced based economy to do anything but to make everyone ''equally poor'' compared to a (real, untried) free-market solution, UNTILL (say 50-100 years) when we got much better technology and can make all shit we want in limitless amounts for real
A RBE is a long term plan in the area of 2050 time frame. It would take 10 years to impliment with everyone working together, and probably 20+ years to get people to work together.
POOR is a word that would that would best describe that as a lower freqeuncy, so the only way that will happens is if the people want it.
It would require you to break a universal law for that to happen, so good luck on that (LOL) as "equally rich" would be the better term.
derek everyone will never get paid with actual gold and silver because there is not enough of it to go around, all the massive wealth is hoarding it, instead of fancy cars that eventually will turn to rust, buy silver & gold
we will see. Until a currency can be created that is a legitimate one, there isn't anything else to trade but by barter system. So once the government collapses, I see this being the way.
i could see if the world governments completely collasped that gold & silver will be at the top of the list to barter defintely, i think they will come out with a world currency backed by silver and gold
I agree, I do see us using our abundant metals as our wages. The banks we will be using already have the metals in abundant supply. There will be a time when everyone who choose so will feel wealthy & prosperous. Not wishful thinking! xoxoxo
Can you eat silver? Can you buy an itune or some bread with silver? If paper money and bank credits as we know it fail, silver isn't going to help us. We may as well go to digital credits as it would be easier to implement. Money is money regardless of form...
LOL, people whom say "Can you eat silver" make me laugh.
Today it costs $3.00 to buy a loaf bread. It cost $2.00 in 2004 and $1.00 in 1992.
Today I can get $18 easy for a bullion coin which can buy 6 loafs. When bread is $18.00 a loaf I most likely will get about 6 loafs.
Finding buyers for SILVER will not be hard. Finding takers for DOLLARS will be hard, unless you sell it as a collectors item (which it will be, like Zimbabwean money is.) Silver shortage and high demand = VALUE
I'm glad I made you laugh with my comments ;-) Surely if the scenario you suggests unfolds, bullets, food and medical supplies will be the only things of value...
Plus, Silver is an investment for 2015 time frame for the recovery, with a high chance (over 98%) that it will be amazing until then with up and down dips along the way
I bought every single door, two Granite counter tops with the sinks, cabinet base, and the faucet fixtures, Tile (Travertine and Marble), shower fixtures, landscaping plants, base moulding, crown molding and wood from the deck of a home that is valued at no less than a Million USD ... for Two (2) Rolls of Silver Eagles (40 ounces).
The home is going to be demolished and a new one will be constructed in it's place.
Most of the doors I will re-use ...the others I will trade for USD.
The rest of the material I purchased will be used in the house I am rehabilitating and it is all high-quality.
I will be able to replace all 40 coins and still have several hundred dollars to trade for food.
I have, in this day and age, been successful at trading Silver for goods/food.
The "you can't eat Silver argument" is moot because you can't eat dollars unless you've suffered from the effects of Stanis Flouride in your drinking water ...but then you would probably eat anything.
Sounds like you got a very good deal. I wonder if the seller will report the ASEs as income? If so, at what rate? $40.00 face value of the ASEs? That's why govt & banksters hate PMs, they have no control over it.
I told him to sit on the stash and to check the price of Silver periodically.
There are sub-culture's living in a makeshift sub-economy, and it has been this way for decades, and it was created out of necessity due to a lack of the ability to make what I deem a "living wage". Learning these ways of surviving is really essential and the training is free - provided you are willing to deal with people who have been marginalized since birth, may not smell that great and are living on the cusp.
The guy I dealt with is a millionaire; which is great as long as the purchasing power of a million or more $'s is in a steady-state. But, I advised him to look at some alternatives by doing some research for himself.
What I learned:
1) Don't hesitate to ask if the other person is willing to deal in the abstract
2) Don't assume that the person sees value the same way you might
3)There is no real difference in how the deal is done based on the other guys' status/class.
I buy my Ag from APMEX and I dig for Gold on Craigslist and I sell on ebay. Ebay is a great source for determining what the market will bear when selling. Craigslist is a good source for what the market will bear when buying.
Any dollar that takes over as the world currency will fall just as bad.
In fact, that will happen with all currencies as it is only paper. You say you would gladly accept US Dollars, however would you sign a contract to accept USA dollars with an annual rate of 8% pay increase for ten years?
Okay then, so how would an economy expand if it was based on silver? Let me guess we could write more paper slips than we have silver in the vault and...
USD has it's probs but if there ain't anything near better, why change, I'll take USD, GBP and Euro any day...
erm how did we mange for 1000's of years with gold and silver as money lol know idea at all I'll take USD, GBP and Euro any day... are all fiat money worthless
when they create loads of money think of it like a glass of beer the more water u add the less the beer is worth
why did a house cost £10,000 30 years ago and today it costs £250,000
Well, I have my trust in reality, and the economy takes time to expand to glory, for like Mr. Schiff says, we have to live through hard times, to have good times (sort of like learning how to lose before we win)
The dollar has to fall because of its TRUTH on how it is backed and the mayan calendars TRUTH for what it predicts on consciousness.
If you're holding Silver or Gold, I will gladly take it off your hands for my USD's. I'm getting out of the USD ...just a personal decision. I'll hold only what I have to until PM's are accepted as a form of trade.
The fact that there is some work involved in translating Silver or Gold into hard assets and consumables, only makes me question my needs with more scrutiny. The impulse buying has come to a screeching halt.
they raised the minimum wage and more unions go on strike during recessions...would love to be paid in silver...actually I'm self employed and any money I have left over at the end of the month I buy silver...so I pay myself
ask if you are self employed service provider. I have asked for bill payment in silver and hourly 1 1/2 oz hr. Some say yes. The incentive is I offer 15% off the bill if paid in silver or at 1 1/2 oz hr @ $15.00 oz they save 15% - 17%. Great side effect is when they ask why? I state it is an inflationary hedge fund and some buy for themselves too.
Don't you think the economic recovery will support the dollar ?

Great analogy Derek,
Keep up the good work!
PS: another interesting analogy...
Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot
for thirty pieces of silver.
So how much would that be worth in todays economy?

30 ounces of silver can get you one months rent (at a bachelor pad)
