If only Harryhausen or Pete Peterson could have done this film.
Even so I like it better than any of the CGI I have seen. CGI is so lifeless
and same-looking all the time. Thousands of people have done CGI effects but only a handful of artists have ever even attempted stop-motion for feature films no matter how jerky it may have been.
@CrispinRobles The rumor that Romero was gay has been around for a long time, but I don't think any concrete proof exists to back it. Anyway, what does it matter now that he is no longer living? He was a talented actor and in real life a well-mannered gentleman. How he conducted his private life was his business. May he rest in peace.
Sub-par compared to Obie and Harryhausen, but it sure beats the previous hour of rock climbing. Don't watch the movie, I beg you. Just watch these clips. Or the MST3k episode, and even then the Rock Climbing is almost unbearable.
I love how they see a creature that they just found out hasen't been extienct for millons of years, somehow surrvived and the first thing they want to do is shoot it.
ATleast proper machine-toled ball-and-socket armatures have been used; this effects work has been slated by most reference sources; however, it's good enough to add to my compilation DVDS I am assembling on obscure dimensional animation [it's obviously been inspired by O'BRIEN'S/DELGADO'S 'LOST WORLD' of 1925.]
This is great! I last saw this obscure film back in the mid '50s on television. Of course as a kid everything looks so much more realistic and impressive. The idea of finding a lost land that had dinosaurs on it captured my imagination and I've been wanting to see it again ever since.
At least the dinosaurs look like dinosaurs in this low budget adventure film. The green tint is annoying, though, and the animation is a step below O'Brien's efforts as evidenced by the slow and limited movements of the stop motion models. The cast is good, though.
No, Without George Lucas, Walt Disney, Jim Henson, & Steven Spielberg we wouldn't have the technology of today, Star Wars, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, The Lion King, And Jurassic Park led the way to today's technology, Willis O Brien and Ray Harryhausen didn't really have anything to do w/t it. Really! Also Did you know that without Walt Disney there may never have been A Dragon Ball, Kimba The White Lion, And Naruto, because Osamu Tezuka, The Founder Of Anime, was inspired by Walt Disney Real
why do some people prefer old movie technology over the technology of today, these old movie technology effects are for cowards who don't want the monsters to be scary & more like thier turkey sandwich. Come on, CGI looks so real, the Dinosaurs move faster, look more real, & behave like Dinosaurs really behaved. Compare the Triceratops in this film to the triceratops in Jurassic Park, JP's Cera looks so real, and even as a kid i thought they were real & was shocked to learn that they were comtr
I agree CGI looks so much more realistic and jurassic park was a landmark CGI movie but without people like Willis O'Brien (King Kong, Black Scorpion) and Ray Harryhausen (Clash of the Titans, Jason & the Argonauts) venturing into the world of stop motion and perfecting it in the 1930's until 1980's we wouldn't have the amazing FX we have today. people who prefer these old movies still enjoy CGI movies of today, they also appreciate the work these men did back in the good old days.
Films are art. This might be shocking to you, but realism is in fact not the only objective a film wishes to achieve. As 3000 years of human art teaches us, aesthetics rule over realism. CGI does not look real, it looks like CGI: the budget is immediately discernible, there is no real art to it, as it is accomplished by hordes of conveyor belt computer nerds: there is no connection between the idea and the finished product. What you are looking at is soulless, effortless machined manure.
CGI effects usually suck..You can always tell when they are being used, who the hell wants to see people running from cartoons?? Even the worst looking rubber monster is at least a real object.
"i didnt think there was one meat eating dinosaur in this film....all plant eaters that eat and kill sluggish ary men"
They never eat them.
People say that about the brontosaur in the original King Kong, too, when we only see it pick up the men in it's mouth and toss them aside.
Oh, and plant eaters do kill. Look at hippopotamus, elephants, rhinos. They all stampede, charge, bite, maim, and kill if their territory, themselves, or family are in threat.
There is a shot in the IT'S A GOOD LIFE episode of Twilight Zone where the "family" that Billy Mumy has captive in the house is forced to watch the triceratops' from this movie fight each other.
"all this is bull shit no dinosaur would survive being shoot in the head and being shoot 7 times"
It's called a "movie", dumbass. You know, movies? Fun? Escapist entertainment to put your worries aside and escape into a world of impossibility and wonder?
I find it incredible that some of these idiots today take everything so...seriously.
Nice to finally see the "famous" green tinted sequence's from this. Even bad stop-motion is better than anything else. This is a tough movie to sit through. MSTK actually makes it more watchable but the little robots sometimes intrude into the frame and block th animation footage. Thanks for posting this !
Man, I thought that MST3K may have cut some of the stop-motion in their cut of the film...boy, was I wrong! Thanks for the upload. Harryhausen it's not, but it's always nice to see stop motion in action.
And I think that last part made an unintnentional pun.

A pity that the movie does not feature any carnivorous dinosaurs.

This was my favorite movie as a kid. Later I found out that Caesar Romero was a flamer. That killed it for me.

zombieswillconquer, I am not so sure CGI looks more realistic anymore.
Since JP and LOTR, CGI I have found has gone way down hill.
Moseslawgiver 2 years ago
@zombieswillconquer I don't think CGI looks very realistic at all. With few exceptions, it mostly looks like video games.

"why do some people prefer old movie technology over the technology of today"
Because I find old fashioned FX are funner. As the Joker said, "Why so serious?".
"these old movie technology effects are for cowards who don't want the monsters to be scary & more like thier turkey sandwich"
No, they are for decent human beings who have fun with movies regardless of what techniques behind the scenes were used.
Movies are not about 'Behind the Scenes'. They are about what is in the scenes.
