  • The black president, Fela was something else, I like the fact that he refused colonial supremecy. He wanted Africa that is ran by Africans for Africans. Not like what we see now with this European Countries ruling us through our Black President. I like Fela's legacies. He is the greatest thing ever happened musically. He is bigger than all this American musicians our kids and some of us listen to.

  • black president fela......u gone but ur regime still got us here leaving comments to ur music

  • @kwacou @jamaicangoodguy

The problem is that everyone views both Nigeria and Jamaica as a place to go to enjoy a "cheap" experience of "rebirth"/"grounding"/"humbling" one's self. You do not have people go to New York City, London or any large, world renown metro for that. And until people realize the citizens of a country make it good or bad... nothing will change in either of your beautiful nations. Sorry.

  • @rgupta47 suburban knight maroon.

  • i'm white as ivory but love this guy for his music for his lyrics!!

he's as big as bob marley to me

never forget fela anikolapu kuti, africa!

  • LOVELY MUSIC SO TRANQUIL,IF YOU DID NOT UNDERSTAND IT, YOU WOULD SWEAR IT WAS A LOVE SONG. BEAUTIFULLY PUT TOGETHER LOVELY BASSLINE.JAMAICA IS WORSE THAN NIGERIA IN TERMS OF VIOLENCE PER CAPTITOR.YOUR POLITICAL SYSTEM IS BAD BUT OURS IS MUCH WORSE.OUR POLICE MURDER WHOLE FAMILIES,BEING A POOR BLACK DARK SKINNED MAN IS A CRIME AND YOU COULD EASILY FALL VITCIM TO POLICE DEATH SQUADS.YOU ARE NOT THE WORST BY FAR

  • @jamaicangoodguy If you think Jamaica is worse than Jamaica , my friend move there. And yes I have been to Nigeria twice and I will travel there again but Jamaica cannot be compared to Nigeria. Please travel there and see for yourself.

  • @kwacou I meant if you think Jamaica is worse than Nigeria. Jamaica's problems are very minor in comparison. While I was in Nigeria I stayed in Abuja, as well as Lagos,I also got the opportunity to stay with friends who live on Victoria Island. Many Nigerians live in Jamaica ask them if Jamaica is worse. In fact you can go to the Africa house in Kingston, which is owned by a Nigerian.

  • @kwacou WE DO HAVE A MUCH HIGHER MURDER RATE PER CAPITOR,WE ARE ONLY 2.7 MILLION PEOPLE,YOU ARE 150 MILLION.OFCOURSE WEALTHY NIGERIANS ARE GOING TO FIND JAMAICA SAFE.IT CAN BE COMPARED TO JAMAICA IN THAT ELECTIONS ARE VERY DANGEROUS,AND PEOPLE ARE KILLED TO ENCOURAGE BLOCK VOTES.EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS ARE VERY COMMON,THE POLICE WOULD PREFER TO KILL RATHER THAN TAKE SUSPECTS TO COURT. WE ARE MORE ALIKE THAN YOU THINK, ABUJA IS A NEW CITY AND VICTORIA ISLAND IS FOR WEALTHY BUSINESS PEOPLE

  • @jamaicangoodguy Higher murder rate per capita does not accurately tell the story of crime. In Ja crime is concentrated and not as random.Crime in Ja is usually between individuals who know each other. Whereas in Nigeria, crime is much more random. In JA, kidnappings are rare.In Nigeria even school teachers are kidnapped for ransom, a shoe makers child is more likely to be kidnapped than a businessman, doctors or lawyers child. Imagine a minibus drivers family being held ransom for 100 dollars US.

  • @kwacou DONT GET ME WRONG JAMAICA DOES NOT HAVE THE CHAOS THAT NIGERIA HAS,MOST OF THE GUN CRIME IS POLITICAL,IT IS NOT JUST BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS AS MANY ARE LEAD TO BELEIVE,KILLING SOMEONE FOR THIER JOB HAS BECOME A NEW AND DESTURBING ELEMENT IN J.A. KIDNAPPINGS ARE VERY RARE IN JA.THEY WOULD NOT KIDNAP ANYONE FOR 100 US DOLLARS.THATS FOR SURE. JAMAICA'S MAIN INDUSTRY IS TOURISM AND YOUR RIGHT MOST KILLINGS ARE IN KINGSTON, VOILENCE IS NOT LIKE IN YOU COUNTRY BETWEEN MUSLIM AND CHRISTIAN

  • @jamaicangoodguy You got it wrong, I live in Jamaica, visited Nigeria twice. I live on the tropical paradise Jamaica in the beautiful parish of Portland at the foot of the Blue Mountains. I've spent over 25 yrs travelling around the world even spent a yr in the UK. There's nothing like Jamaica. The only other countries I would consider living in are Brasil (Rio& Bahia )& South Africa (Love Durban and Cape Town).

  • @kwacou JAMAICA IS A GREAT PLACE IF YOU HAVE MONEY, THEN CAN STAY AWAY FROM THE BAD GUYS, BUT IT IS VERY HARD PLACE TO BE POOR AND DARK SKINNED. JAMAICA IS BEAUTIFUL NO DOUBT BUT NOT SAFE,OK GUNMEN WONT KIDNAP YOUR FAMILY IN J.A . BUT IF YOU ARE VULNERABLE IN ANY WAY ,ITS EASY TO GET INVOLVED IN CRIME.YOU DONT NEED LOTS OF MONEY IN JAMAICA, BUT YOU DO NEED MONEY TO KEEP YOUR DIGNITY THIER.YOUHAVE BEEN LOTS OF VERY NICE PLACES, SO DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SURVIVING EVERY DAY LIKE MOST JAMAICAN

  • @jamaicangoodguy I'm just an average Jamaican, grew up in a farming community in St. Elizabeth, my parents sold produce in the Santa Cruz and Black River mkts. I remember we used to wake early to take a bus to Coronation mkt to sell. Life was hard but we're a very positive family. My parents instilled in us the value of hard work, saving and education. With those tools provided I had the skills to create as well as take advantage of opportunity. Jamaica is not poor, the minds are. pt1

  • @kwacou pt 2 Jamaica needs a spiritual rebirth to see the wealth. We live on an Island yet we waste and destroy our environment. We rather buy imported food then grow our own. We like to wear diamonds and gold which we have none of. We do have beautiful sea shells, plants and the richness of the earth to make all our adornments but we choose not to. We (the people) make ourselves poor just as it is us who kill each other. The enemy is within.

  • @kwacou I THINK YOUR AN ABOVE AVERAGEJAMAICAN,MY PEOPLE ARE FROM MANDEVILLE WHICH IS ALSO ABOVE AVERAGE.MARKET SELLERS IN JAMAICA ARE VERY WELL OFF BY COMPARISON TO OTHER LOW SKILLED JAMAICANS AS THIER INCOME IS STEADY.NIGERIA IS FAR RICHER THAN JAMAICA IN MINERALS THEY HAVE ALL TYPES OF MINERALS, URAINIUM CEMENT OIL PLUS LOTS OF FOODS GROWN ON AN INDUSTRIAL SCALE. NIGERIA AND JAMAICA WERE BOTH MUCH BETTER OFF UNDER COLONIAL RULE.ITS A VERY HARD THING TO ADMIT,WE HAVE MADE BLACK LIVES CHEAP

  • @jamaicangoodguy "better under colonial rule" for whom? Native Nigerian and Jamaicans?

  • @iayyam BOTH WERE BETTER OFF . OUR LEADERS HAVE SOLD US DOWN THE RIVER. THEY HAVE DONE EVERYTHING THIER FORMER MASTERS WANTED. THIER IS NO RULE OF LAW IN OUR COUNTRIES. WE LACK THE AMBITION OF THE OTHER RACES. NIGERIA HAS MADE TRILLIONS SINCE IT FIRST STARTED PUMPING OIL 52 YEARS AGO. I AM ASHAMED TO SAY THE ONLY PLACE I FEEL SAFE IS IN ENGLAND, AMONGST THOSE WHO DISPISE US. THEY HAVE PURE CONTEMPT FOR OUR RACE. WE ARE NO DIFFERANT. JUST LIKE HOW FELA PUT IT IN COLONIAL MENTALITY

  • @jamaicangoodguy THEY THE CORRUPT AND VILLAINOUS SO CALLED LEADERS LAKE THE AMBITION OF OTHER RACES. THE PEOPLE OF BOTH NIGERIA & JAMAICA HAVE A RESILIENCE, DETERMINATION AND AMBITION AS GREAT AT THE ANY IF NOT GREATER. YOU SEE FOR THEM THE SAKES ARE HIGH THEY NEED TO SAVIVE SO THERE CHILDREN MAY ONE DAY SEE THE KIND OF CHANGE THAT IS TAKING ROOT IN EGYPET ANF THE MIDDLE EAST. WHEN THE PEOPLE HAVE THE COLLECTIVE STRENGTH TO DEMAND AND END TO THE HELL AND THE BEGINNING OF OUR BRIGHT FUTURE

  • @abololuca EVERYBODY IS CORRUPT, CORRUPTION IS NOT THE REAL PROBLEM. TO MY MIND THE REAL PROBLEM IS LACK OF AMBITION FROM OUR LEADERS. WE SHOULD TRY TO MAKE AFRICA A SAFE. POLITICS IS KILLING US.WE DONT HAVE MUCH PROGRESS IN TERMS OF NEW ROADS NEW INTERNET INFUSTUCTURE IS BADLY NEEDED. IT IS SO SLOW. THEY ARE MAKING HUGE PROFITS BUT NOT REINVESTING IT ON A BETTER SERVICE. EGYPT MAY NOT BE BETTER OFF WITH DEMOCRACY, IT MAY DIVIDE PEOPLE MORE THAN A BENOVELENT DICTATORSHIP UNDER MUBARAK.

  • @kwacou suburban knight maroon.

  • @jamaicangoodguy sorry for the voting down , just punched the wrong button mistakenly . your words are tru and sincere .

  • #99,801 & counting... LISTEN!

  • Fela is the voice of the people.

  • everybody run, run, run everybody scatta, scatta

  • i'm from the lost tribe in the wilderness, the belly of the beast called North America! Fela Kuti feeds the freedom fighters with courage, hope, and belief!!!

  • @ sadfuck, ur Nigerian friend is a bastard! Fela is a god in Nigeria..Tell him to submit his Nigerian passport to the closest Nigerian embassy for spewing such blasphemy on the original black president. God punish him mama!

  • @mrdemola "President"? No. I'd like to think Kuti would abhor the idea of any kind of "President". If he didn't, I suppose I've been listening to the wrong Kuti, who would be an ideologue eventually more harmful to his own cause than those who chose to oppress him.

  • @HisW1tness Fela actually tried to run for president in Nigeria and was refused.

  • I work with a nigerian chap, and upon asking him what he thought of the mighty fela. His reply surprised me to say the least. He had nothing good to say about fela.Saying many nigerians feel the same way.Is this true?

  • a song can"t get anymore politically charged than this! truly a masterpiece.

  • FELA IS THE SHIT

  • We've got to fight for freedom, we've got to fight for freedom, we've got to fight for justice, we've got to fight for happiness.

  • LEGEND!!

  • "what does dis tune mean or whos he refereng to, wen he says dem??"

He was referring to the corrupt Military dictators that ruled Nigeria at the time

They were brytal and left sorrow tears and blood in their wake

  • I loved Fela music when I went dancing being 17 years old and a white smoker of Nigerian. 51 now and finding Fela on Y.T. is just magic. I stopt smoking like 7 years now and I get high on memories like these now. Belgium used to be a great country. It changed a lot .

  • FYI:

FELA = spread or enjoy your wealth with envy

Anikulapo = he who has death in his pouch or pocket

Kuti = he that dies not, or dies hard

  • In April 1974, the police raided his communal household in Lagos, the Kalakuta Republic. The attack left Fela with a broken arm and with cuts that required 11 stitches. In 1977, soldiers attacked again. They burned down his home and threw his 77-year-old mother out of a second-story window. she died of her injuries the next year. On Sept. 30, 1979, the day before a civilian Government took power in Nigeria, Fela a mock coffin to the headquarters of the military Government.

  • @GeneralTrousers lool what a name u got there...i must say he was a brave man nd thanx alot 4 de explanation much apreciated.

  • what does dis tune mean or whos he refereng to, wen he says dem??

  • The beat/style of music is afrobeat.

dem means they (often referring to the government & police)

  • First time i've heard this great musician i had 12 years so it was about 7 years ago and i fell in love with his sounds. He was one of the great man that walk this Earth
