  • Nice lighting, but if you don't mind me saying, your camera composition framing needs some work! If you are tutoring others you are setting a bad example. Always frame left to right from left of center and right to left from right of center. Especially with an obvious photo frame or point of interest above, her right shoulder. Regards.

  • @opticalprism I sure would love to see one of your tutorials...

  • superb work!

  • what do you use to get pic on computer is it directly tethered with usb or do you use the wt-4a id like to know thanks

  • Nice video, but why not use monolights?

  • Nice photos.... and good tip of using a small strobe...

  • A most interesting video, thanks for sharing.

Stobists are taking over the world...

  • Did you meter the flash? or use TTL.

    great results, thanks for sharing.

  • Its good to see how you lay out a shot, instead of just telling how a shot is done.

    Thanks

  • I am doing this next week. Trying to do it with as little equipment as possible. I too use the CLS but find the preflash sometimes causes blinking from the subject. Looks like you used a sync cord instead?

  • what program do u use on your mac to view your photos immediately?

  • very well explained thanks

  • nice tips! thank you!!

  • Hi David.

Quick question, are you using Nikon's Camera Control Pro 2.3 on your laptop? If so have you had any write/cache issues using it with your D700 as mine is having some when hooked up to my Acer One.

  • The lamp in the background is beautifully lit,May I know what was the shutter speed(I guess its 1\30) and Aperture for this shot?

  • Just took delivery of my new D700 yesterday. DT

  • so you have a D300 now?

why not the D3/D700 or do you have that too haha

  • Well done video. Very informative and emphasizes that "less is more" sometimes.

  • Thanks David - inspirational!

  • Ah. Now talk about adaptability... ;-) Great example of a 1-light show!

I can't wait for the Texas Workshop! Will you post it on your blog? Is there an e-mail update system in place?

  • Fantastic, as usual. Very helpful.

  • I could have easily used a soft box, however the strobe was working double duty. Not only was light passing through the panel, light from the strobe was adding just a bit of light to the background. A full diagram of the set up is at my blog.

I have plans on a Small Strobes, Big Results workshop in Texas later this year. DT

  • Good video - I'm curious, however, as to why you wouldn't utilize a softbox in this situation (preferably one made for speedlights)? It seems it'd be easier to set up and just as adaptable/portable.

I wish I could make your workshop! Come on down to Texas again sometime. :-)

  • I bought Nikon Capture Pro 2. It works well with lightroom. I ask lightroom to monitor a particular folder and it up dates it self. DT

  • what software did you use on the mac, to view the pictures right after you took them?

  • nice vid

just wondering where i can get the host shoe mounts that u have for the lighting stands?

atm i have to screw them in using my speedlight stand those shoes look awesome

  • Great video!

  • uuhh... tight room to work with. You should get a D3, that would allow to get in more with 50mm.

  • Thanks, I really liked it! Simple and very informative.
