@ bigbooty you have a valid point. But not the only point. basics should be learned online and perfected in practice with a live instructor on the mat. When i first began to take jiu jitsu I was confused on how to put my body in certain positions. Some people need the confidence to even walk into a gym and get instruction. What happens often is that fighting is taught from an egotistical standpoint, not one of humbleness and understanding for all mindsets and abilities.
@muslimheatdotcom this is true often times the mechanics are misunderstood by just seeing, and I fully agree with the ego issue I remember intructors while they are teachiing class telling people not to be like that guy pointing to some big dude trying to be bad ass slaming into a punching bag. I don't instruct but I do give insight and when ever I'm not sure I call the instructor over. if I get match up with some with lwr awareness I wont roll so tight givin options to apply what was tuaght
@bigbootyfiend but if some one asks me to explain a technique I will attempt to show the technique as clean as I can, while providing backround philosophy. being tight but not to tight just snug try to avoid using one muscle group workin on postioning and control more than just sumbmissions. this usually gives confidence to risk the sumbmission for they are confident to regain an advantagoues postion. oh and yeah love the machado brothers, nice 1/2 guard and triangles
You can also go for an omoplata on the first one when they pull their arm out. Still holding the second hand, shoot your hips up, figure four and chop down. A bit more unexpected than going for another arm bar and fairly easy as the angle is great after they pull out the first arm.
it really depends on the position your in. If your standing and they are on their back you can "Stack" the person once you feel the armbar closing in. This also works for triangles also. this is putting all your weight toward the head of the opponent and reaching behind is head with your free arm and pulling his head toward your body while pushing your body towards his head. next time i do some video's I will show you God willing.
Nice instructing videos dude. i have an important question. If your in an armbar how can you get out without injuring yourself. i know one way but its a difficult way too do and i want to find an easier way.
if you are on your back when the opponent brings his leg around to lay back at that precise moment turn into him and jerk very hard, the arm thats being armbarred pulling it past his groin area free. this must be done in jerky motions or one big jerking motion otherwise it doesn't work. of course if this fails just tap and learn to identify the armbar sooner. we all tap remember to stay humble. thanks for the question.
the technique is not developing and you may test it at any point i am in atlanta! your martial arts instructor should have taught you manners. I show wide ranging loose motions so those that have no idea can get an idea and those who have experience can get a quick reminder. i see you like watching the ego driven instructors who do thier techniques obviously only for experienced persons
the arm bar switch I've seen in many videos, the machado series was nice
I know ur just demonstrating but u were quite loose on the techniques, tighten it up, or u won't be to successful with those in sparring or tournaments
the reason i was loose was so that others that don't know the technique can see. to often i watch video's and the "instructors" are stroking their own ego's with the quick movements and making assumptions as thogh they are teaching high level watchers. well i do my video's for those that may not know anything or those like you that know i need to tighten that up. it's just basics, very basics but some don't know that and feel intimidated by all the ego insturctors
@maynardr1 you can still be tight and be basic. teaching people to be so loose is just putting holes in their game. you do sound like a good instructor I just find the technique to be a lil crude
@bigbootyfiend also just so you know this is the instructor in the video I just realized I'm logged in to a different account. So being relaxed on a video speaks to a certain group of individuals who may otherwise not have the confidence to get real instruction under an instructor on the mat. In know way is any video better than personalized instructions but often it scares alot of people away with the level of expertise and machizmo that is displayed.
@bigbootyfiend even though I try not to have an ego I do come from the gracie line of fighters by way of Carlos Machado through my instructors malcolm and courtenay muhammad, which is any time any place. This isn't directed towards you but my jiu jitsu skills can always be tested. in my opinion their is nothing wrong with "dumbing down" the technique on a youtube video. but i do respect your point of view also. Much success in your training.
I'd like to see your ideas using the traditional quick arm bar and how you'd do the subs from there, but I like what I see. Your "less traditional" quick armbar has a feint built into it to that exploits the defenses of most bjj schools. Your opposite armbar position is ill because your head is less parallel to your opponent's knees/torso and better protected against knees, slams, and other strikes. Good job, brah.
Looks to me like he was simply more comfortable going the other way. He started by putting his right foot on the opponent's hip. and then without saying it, probably just by instinct, he put his left foot on the hip and went the other way. Look again and you'll agree.
I agree that your supposed to put the foot on the other hip, but i've seen armbars thrown in tournament and in practice this way. I enjoyed the video Peace.
I am happy you have made the destinctions. I am 6'5" and 265 lbs and 36 years old. my demonstrator is 5'7". If he had a simular body size i would have more room to just place the one foot in the hip and rotate. i put the other foot in to give myself a little more hip room to maneuver while i hold the person in place i place the other foot in while holding the arms so if the opponent does pull back i can work the 2 on 1gaurd. everyone isn't small or a gracie/machado. i do what works for my body!
dude the proper etiquette is to make friends then question ones background. Your approach is all wrong and that is an indictment on your instructor. Respect is the key to any fighting art. If you don't like the video's don't watch. The question should be who is your instructor, that he/she did/does not teach you respect?
im def on hating on you, showing what you know is cool, but showing it the wrong way is not.armbar is set up wrong and you give him way to much space to pull away or pass.the knee bar is ok.who do you train under?
pika hahaah i didnt even realize that his foot was on the wrong hip hahaha.if you post a video that thousands are gonna watch make sure your technique is right.
"If you don't have any 'HATERS', then you aint doing shyte. The more 'HATERS' you have the more your doing. If their are any other 'HATERS' out there that do not...I repeat do not have anyone to hate on then I'm your man. Hate-On!" -Katt Williams
I appreciate your comments. We do our videos for the beginner white belts and over exagerate the motions in order for those beginners to see the movements. We also uphold the Gracie rule...anytime anyplace my friend.
i don't know how well that first arm bar works. it's not very tight holding the head like that. last night on ufc83 we saw an EASY reversal out of it - i forget who it was, because he had the freedom to spin around and bend his arm. sorry wish i had more info.
The first arm bar is a traditional arm bar from the guard. There are many ways to counter it. This is why he shows the second armbar, as it is a counter to the most common armbar escape. It's a really effective move, but i prefer getting more to the side to make the 2nd arm bar tighter. It also adds more of a choke to the head scissors.
Thank you for your comments. Angles and hip position are the key to any move. The traditional armbar from the gaurd thesag3 is a pretty basic move and every fight school in the world practices how to get out of it, it is still important to learn and begin to do rapid fire techniques. if one technique doesn't work immediately go to the next. which is the purpose of that first combination. most schools teach 2 counter techniques per move to create a total of 3 rapid fire submission combos.
the third natural submission from the opposite arm armbar would be the kimura or the triangle although you could add just about anything that fits your personal ground game.
Thanks, but I have to give respect to my instructors Malcolm & Courtenay Muhammad. And their instructor Carlos Machado. The key is rolling with smaller weaker people and not using strength, only use techniqu. Big guys always try and muscle their way out/in to position. So I concentrate more on getting into position with technique rather than getting into position by any means necessary.
cool, most of the brothers I know really ain't trying to do submissions. They about those hands, but it's cool to see some brothers here teaching technique.
