  • Oh yeah you bet Shawn!!!!....I actually live in the channel islands (Jersey) moved over with RBC, we have golf all year round and the weather stays pretty cool during the whole winter (it is like golfing during fall in T.O.). That means there is a lots of time for golf!!! keep practicing and learning from your videos...finally learned how to hit a fade and draw ....keep it up shawn thanks for everything.!!!

  • Thanks Shawn, you are an absolute genius! Moved to the UK from Canada, golf is my big hobby these days, your videos help keep my sanity in golf. By far the best instructor on You-Tube! Thanks!

  • @rohit369 Glad to hear from you! I hope things are good across the pond for you; I guess you get to play more year round there too no? Shawn

  • Target focus should be number two in priorities after the Grip. My target focus is atrocious at the best of times. I hit the ball plenty far (300+ avg driver, 6i is my 200yd club, PW 160) but am obsessed with creating some kind of 'ultimate swing' and am so focused on that I forget where I want the ball to go which is the most important thing! I'll keep watching this Mr Clement until it sinks in and hopefuly start kicking old man par's teeth in!

  • @bossofalltime another great rendition of this video is "golf pro lesson ridiculously easy" part 1 and 2; like in baseball, there is a big difference between the swing that hits a high home run center field vs a grounder to third base; the "Picture" defines the swing! Then you will realize that you need to start the ball and end the ball in very defined areas so see "golf pro lesson working the ball" part 1 and 2. Shawn

  • @clemshaw Funnily enough, as soon as I had watched this one I went straight to the 'ridiculously easy' videos that I had opened in my other tabs. I'll check out the 'working the ball' video. I admire the work you do, take care. Nat

  • Shawn Shawn I always think that we have to hit down on the ball, but i think it´s not the correct way, like you comment to some gauy there, you have to think a maker behdind the ball trought that target it's like hit teh ball skiping teh ground under teh ball and hit teh ground inf front of the ball, right? wee I hope see your answer tecaher!!!

  • Well like in my dvd where I show the ball on a string, when you swing the arm club unit freely to a target, it forms a nice arc; we just need to position this arc properly with the ball with the posture and ball position and then simply be aware that there will be a strike on the way to the target; see "golf pro lesson stop topping and take better divots" part 1 and 2 as well as "golf pro lesson tilted twirl"; all the best! Shawn

  • Hi Shawn,

whenever I am hitting short irons or wedges it feels like my chest is diving at the ball and then coming back up and it is really hurting my consistency. It doesnt happen on my practice swing or on long irons or driver. I am really trying to focus on the target but I think I might be getting stuck focusing on the ball. What can I do to fix this?

    Thanks in advance

  • You simply need to replace the ball with something else; take a plastic disc the size of a penny like a plastic ball marker and skip through that a few times on your way to the target; then put a ball on top of the disc or just imagine the disc is still there under the ball and keep skipping through the disc to the target; you will get a way better strike; see "golf pro lesson distance to ball part 2" just in case too:

    Shawn

  • Shawn with this comment you gave to this guy, I finally Understand what is ¨tghouht the ball¨ because I strike teh ball very crisp and solid just repleacing teh ball with somthing under the ball and continuning to the target!!! I know you have alot of videos explaning that but this comment is the best, I think you can make a video with CLOSE UP of how the club head is contact with teh ball, take care teacher!!! Aldo

  • thanks a lot for the reply. between this and thinking about casting the club to the target i have really improved. I wanted to thank you for doing all of these videos bc i am in college and i cant really afford lessons or many trips out to the range but these videos have greatly improved my game.

  • I am trying to focus on the target and not the ball. Big change from years of golfing. I struggle at the range to confirm I am actually doing the correct release-towards the target. I am in the upper Midwest so I go to a dome. Without video, is there anything you can check to confirm the right swing?

  • Just uploaded a new video called "Golf pro lesson tilted twirl" which has some elements but basically it is important to get the feel for the evergy being released towards the target; see "golf pro lesson through ball" and "golf pro lesson how to repeat the practice swing" as important ones; Shawn

  • After studying your DVD's and videos for over a year, this is the thing I've been working on the most but can't seem to get. My video camera shows I I can make a swing with great extension and lag, but as soon as I put a ball in the way I flip my hands. I can do the eyes closed, scrape the ground, get good extension, but as soon as I put a ball down I flip even with my eyes closed! I'm starting to feel like Charles Barkley.

  • Have a look at my "golf pro lesson weak grip or strong grip"; BTW; how are you doing with your lag with the one leg swing? Shawn

  • I never video taped my one leg swing so I tried it last night. Same thing lag without a ball, but flipping with one, though not as bad. But the one leg drill made something obvious. On the down swing, my left shoulder is moving down toward the ball as my arms start to come down, the opposite direction that it should. Wierd. I tried w/ the one leg to start the downswing by rotating my shoudlers back the way the came and that helped. Do you think this is right?

  • There is another thing I want you to get out of the equation and that is your perception to target; please have a look at "golf pro lesson tilted spiral" part 1, 2 and 3; it is a great continuation of the one leg swing and will help deepen the understanding of the brace against the left side; also part 3 is huge concerning target perception which can affect the way you unwind through the ball;

    Shawn

  • Thanks Shawn. I reviewed all the tilt videos and relevant DVD sections. I thought I understood it but I realize that I didn't really understand the side tilt part. Focusing on that last night I realized that it's the only way to consistently keep your head behind the ball. Incidentally, the great value of your video is the ability to go through the lessons frame by frame. I didn't realize it before, but everyone of your drills incorporates the tilted spiral.

  • Hi shawn, I go to the range twice a week and play once a week. good rounds come along every few seasons. when i'am at the range..hey i look like nick faldo..when i play thats different.. i have nerves like you cannot believe and it results in a swing thats probably 15% of my practise or range swing. I stub the club into the ground for 18 holes. what can i do to mirrow my range swing on the golf course?

  • I have 2 videos for you: "Golf pro lesson how to repeat your practice swing"and "golf pro lesson how to relax"; I would highly recommend the "Inner Game of tennis" and "inner tennis, playing the game" by Timothy Gallwey; a must for understanding how to turn things over to your instincts. Shawn

  • also... do you give "inner game" lessons, shawn?

  • Pretty much all my golf lessons are inner game lessons...:)

Awareness to movement is where it is at!

    Shawn

  • great insights into an important topic, shawn. i find hitting balls with my eyes closed is a fun way to practice not fixating on hitting the ball. when i'm on the course i'll take my practice swings next to the ball with my eyes closed which allows me to FEEL where my body wants to "throw" the clubhead; then just take one step to the ball and swing where my body tells me it wants to swing w/out even thinking about the target, per se. if i take my set-up correctly, direction takes care of itself.

  • Very good! I have a nice section in my dvd series about this and I regularly have a blast with eyes closed practice; great awareness exercise going from closed eyes to glazed open eyes...Thanks for the comment and your swing looks pretty good BTW! Shawn

  • funny thing about practicing with eyes closed... i started doing it recently and the swings feel amazing when i am hitting the balls into my practice net. but when get out on the range it becomes much more challenging to trust myself; probably because i start worrying about what ball flight i will see when i open my eyes!

  • The best drill to use is the "golf pro lesson perpetual motion drill" in combo with the eyes closed drill of the DVD; go through the awareness ladder from the feet to the hips to the non crashing of the arms to the arm motion to the proper function of the grip to the skipping of the sole of the club across the ground in both directions...Fun stuff!

  • Excellent Video Shawn, I m ready for spring and a tune up.....Cant wait to come back...

  • Hi Shawn,

Yet again, another great video. I'm having some problems hitting the ball towards the toe of the club consistently for the past few weeks; ballflight is straight with a loss of distance. It's driving me "insane" - which video do you suggest watching?

    Thanks!

    Alan

  • Hey Alan;

One of the things I have discovered with some of my students is that they have vision issues that affect their depth perception; George Knudson used to set ball off the toe of the club and Fuzzy Zeoller off the heel; don't overlook the fundamentals though and see "golf pro lesson distance to ball part 2" and also see if you can be aware of any changes in posture upward in the backswing and or downswing; Shawn

  • Hi Shawn,

Thank you breaking down your golf instruction so clearly! Comparatiively, other golf video instructors do not include the fine details that your videos do. It is truly doing the "little things" well that translate into success on the golf course and life for that matter. I always take pleasure in recommending your You-Tube and DVD instruction to friends. All the best to you and your family in 2010. Ps: It has been cold so far down here in the Atl as well!

  • Thanks very much Chuck!

All the best to you as well!

    Shawn

  • sean, thanks for the vid! could you do one about actual ball contact and what your hands should be doing to square the clubface before contact. lately i've been shanking the ball, but not off the hosel, my clubface isn't getting quite square. thanks.

  • Here are the videos I want you to watch: "golf pro lesson shanking and head steady part 2", "golf pro lesson weak grip or strong grip" (you will understand when you see the body language associated with each grip), and "golf pro lesson distance to ball part 2"; Shawn

  • thanks shawn, i'm going back to review those asap. don't forget, next time you're in dallas i owe you a steak dinner.

  • I like it. You're totally right about focusing too much on the ball and, unfortunately, I think I do that a lot. I'll take your advice for a test drive.

    Thanks

  • Shawn, I just got back from FL where I played golf with a man from Ontario. He said the weather was cold and miserable all autumn. He had never heard of you, so I took the opportunity to push your name and DVD. Hope that's OK. Happy New Year. Looking forward to reviewing your DVD during the rest of the winter.

  • Hey Golfdoc1950! Of course that's OK! :)

Thank you for the referral and Happy New Year to you as well!

    Shawn

  • You did not film that on Monday!

  • Great video as usual....

How come there's no snow by this time of the year???

Best wishes for this year from your friend from Chile

    Hernan

  • Hi Herman; this was done last November; I had not had the chance to upload it yet; we are under about 12 inches of snow right now :( But the indoor facility is going full blast! :)

All the best for the New Year! Shawn

  • Hi Shawn, warm greetings from Malaysia. Been watching your channel this past week. Found it totally by chance, via a blog link.

Your drills and analogs have helped me to 'get it' those ideas, thoughts and sensations that were somehow difficult to grasp since picking up this game 2 years ago. I'm 48.

Thanks for confirming my purchase and I'm eager to see more revelations in your DVDs.

Also, thank you for sharing from your heart your gift of golf.

Wishing you and family the best in 2010.

  • Thank you Odfex; You Too!

    Shawn

  • I just gotta ask, Shawn, is this current? As in, you made this today? If so, I'm envious to see grass somewhere in Canada and the ability to play golf, while all I see is white stuff. :P

  • I play with many fly swatters on the weekend.

I have noticed that IF I forget to pull down with the arms into impact, I hit chunky shots. But when I pull down, man does it make a difference. I'm starting to hear a nice hiss sound when I hit my irons now. Sounds like air escaping really.

Thanks for making my golf game enjoyable again.

I had so much fun this past Saturday, that I played 27 holes although my feet were killing me after the round.

Cheerios Shawn and have a great 2010!

  • Hi Shawn

Can I thank you first of all for explaining your methods in such a way that makes complete sense, and is something I can and do take to the range with an understanding to practice. Your DVD's have arrived and I am very impressed by their professional content and your easy teaching style. I would recommend you to any of my golfing friends and the only drawback I can think of is that your are so far away from the UK!

Happy New Year to you and your staff

    Regards

    Rod

  • Thanks very much Rod!!

Happy New Year to you and yours across the pond!

    Shawn

  • love how you showed us what our swing looks like when we default to the ball as our target. that is 100% my swing when im playing bad.

happy new year shawn, always love your videos.

  • Thanks Jack!

Happy New Year to you as well!

    Shawn

  • Swing the club and let the ball get in the way. Easy, done it 3 times in 10 years, LOL.

  • the first thing you have to do is learn to swing the club through the same spot you're looking at every time. like driving a nail. if you can't hit the head of the nail over and over again, you can't drive it into the wood. the slightest miss hit bends the nail. as you get better w/ the hammer, you can use a longer stroke and really pound that nail. same w/ the golf swing. learn how to make contact w/ shorter 'punch' like actions, then lengthen the swing. Develop the HIT first.

  • Earthshine2k,

    Your comment really hits home.

    Thanks

  • sean, you make it look so easy!
