Oh.. the comic books are amazing. This is the most compelling series I have read since The Sandman. And, if you know anything about comic books, you know that this is extremely high praise. It's too bad that no channel has picked this up. I'd love to see it.

Damn, Kinsey was ma favorite character and here she doesn't look like her, it sucks. Lets hope another station will make this production happen and change the actors that do not fit in.

I don't have much time. I... I've managed to escape from MOVIESRCOOL and FLICKDATABASE's torture chambers. I don't think I can put into words the atrocities I've seen over the past few months. Men reduced to.... inhuman husks of their former selves! I was forced to watch as my own best friend, once full of joy and kindness, had his soul removed only to become a robotic follower of MOVIESRCOOL's cultlike beliefs. I don't know how long it will be before they find me.

I've always had high hopes for this pilot, also cause I wanted to see Jesse McCartney back on TV (he's got so much potential) but now I think that it wouldn't have been a big success anyway. I mean, there's American Horror Story for haunted hauses and ghosts and it's a smashing hit so I'm not sure that this would be able to compete against it. People don't want to see double, they'd choose.
@ShannonMaggie91 I don't think people would necessarily choose. There are a lot of shows on right now that have similar themes. There are a ton of vampire shows on for example and they're all doing reasonably well. I would expect this show to be a hit if it is similar to AHS.

When Locke & Key was initially optioned, talks swirled of the story being adapted into a movie, which it should've been in my opinion. Then FOX consulted with Steven Spielberg, who thought it might be better served as a TV series. Bad idea. To let this man anywhere near a talented story such as this, was a huge mistake. Let's be honest, since Jurassic Park what has he done other than pin his name on projects as a producer? Steven, go away and take your shitty advice with you.

In that case, they must've cherry-picked the most cliched and least appropriate snippets to showcase in this trailer.
Most of Locke & Key wasn't (and still isn't) about screaming and throwing hissy fits and knocking food off of tables - and whenever it does get like that, a character usually dies. The appeal of the books is watching the characters quietly warring with feelings of uncertainty, isolation, guilt, and crumbling innocence, and doing it in a way that's believable.

@leebedon L&K isn't 6 issues...it will total 6 arcs (6 issues per each arc), when completed. Josh Friedman—screenwriter— was able to fit almost the entire first arc (6 issues) into the Pilot, but that made up roughly 45 min. of film. So even if the graphic novel were adapted to the big screen, a 2.5-3 hr run-time would be seemingly required for each movie, allowing the story to be told fully.

Looks amazing but I read that on June 30th the actors' options expired. I don't wanna watch this with any other cast but the ones that shot the original pilot. I could suck it up and deal with a recast of anyone except Nick Stahl, Miranda Otto, and Ksenia Solo. If they're not in it I'm not watching it.
@roarschach1 "F" that! AMC doesn't have the budget or creative foresight for a project like this. Not to mention they just fired Frank Darabont, a good friend of Joe Hill and his father Stephen King, so I imagine that wouldn't go over well. Fox made sense. A travesty that this didn't get picked up. Best comic book of the last few years. WHat's that last bit of dialogue? "I assure you, I'm real." and then there's a line after that that I can't make out....
Mark Romanek (the director) recently tweeted that this trailer was cut by FOX before the VFX special effects were finished: so the coolest parts of the pilot aren't even in this engaging spot. One of which is the scene where Bode, the little boy, turns into a ghost.
It dosen't have the feel the comic has, I mean the kids look emo, ty looks weak and the sister looks like a cheerleader, but then it might be good to tell you the truth it's good the way it is in comic form.
This looks like a big budget mess. Not surprised Fox didn't gamble on it. This trailer makes it look like Narnia, but then doesn't know what tone it wants to be.
I'm glad FOX didn't pick this show up. They tend to murder a lot of their shows without even finishing the first season or not advertising for them enough. I really hope another creditable network will pick the show up like AMC or FX.

This has more a film-like feel to it as opposed to a television series.

Love the books, but the trailer makes it look terrible. I'm confident that they've taken the base premise of the magic keys, sucked all the intellect and fear and believability right out of the characters that hold it all together, and turned it into a stale, poorly-executed magic story for thirteen-year-old girls.
If you MUST make this great comic story into a mediocre television series, let's at least hire some good actors and get their hairstyles right, please.

@VysetheTard Did you even see the pilot? Both Sarah Bolger and Jesse McCartney, yes him, delivered powerful and moving performances, so much so I thought the comic characters came alive and jumped right off the page.

In that case, they must've cherry-picked the most cliched and least appropriate snippets to showcase in this trailer.
Most of Locke & Key wasn't (and still isn't) about screaming and throwing hissy fits and knocking food off of tables - and whenever it does get like that, a character usually dies. The appeal of the books is watching the characters quietly warring with feelings of uncertainty, isolation, guilt, and crumbling innocence, and doing it in a way that's believable.

That said, grieving comes in various stages—denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance—and to suggest that teenagers, struggling to cope with the loss of a parent should be limited to only mourning in a quiet manner is unrealistic. This Joe Hill is aware, and his characters evoke real kids with flaws, who express themselves in all manners, even outwardly.

But that's just how they did it in the comic, for the vast majority of the time.
I think a thrown plate and an angry shout occurred just once in the entire first collected edition. Why's that sort of thing so much more prevalent in the trailer?

—And both of those expressions are in the pilot episode, which is comprised of the entire first arc of the L&K graphic novel, or "first collected edition" as you choose to call it.

It's got those scenes, along with a whole lot MORE yelling and blind rage. And actors who don't remotely match the looks of the characters (considering how much detail Rodriguez put into those characters, there's no excuse). It leaves me with the idea that the show would be high on production values and low on thought.
And yes, I called it the "first collected edition" instead of a "graphic novel". Let's not get catty, okay?

Whatever our differing views though, it appears we hold a similar passion for the L&K story, want to see it get the proper adaptation it deserves, until then, at least we have the graphic novel.

They could make a movie of each book, witouthc taking out any part, i mean, if watchmen (12 issues) were done in 3 hours, what stops a filmmaker to do each L&K book (6 issues) in a 1, 30 hour movie?

@leebedon L&K isn't 6 issues...it will total 6 arcs (6 issues per each arc), when completed. Josh Friedman—screenwriter— was able to fit almost the entire first arc (6 issues) into the Pilot, but that made up roughly 45 min. of film. So even if the graphic novel were adapted to the big screen, a 2.5-3 hr run-time would be seemingly required for each movie, allowing the story to be told fully.

Looks amazing but I read that on June 30th the actors' options expired. I don't wanna watch this with any other cast but the ones that shot the original pilot. I could suck it up and deal with a recast of anyone except Nick Stahl, Miranda Otto, and Ksenia Solo. If they're not in it I'm not watching it.

@roarschach1 "F" that! AMC doesn't have the budget or creative foresight for a project like this. Not to mention they just fired Frank Darabont, a good friend of Joe Hill and his father Stephen King, so I imagine that wouldn't go over well. Fox made sense. Hopefully they reconsider, and turn it into a mini-series or make a couple movies out of it.

Mark Romanek (the director) recently tweeted that this trailer was cut by FOX before the VFX special effects were finished: so the coolest parts of the pilot aren't even in this engaging spot. One of which is the scene where Bode, the little boy, turns into a ghost.
