Good first set with a rare Truckin'>Smokestack ending. Victim>Foolish is excellent but they drop too quickly into Women Smarter. It's downhill after that.
I understand the sentimental choice (Brent's last show) but the other two Tinleys were both better (I was at all 3).
Psychelia during Victim is cool, thanks for posting. But what I'd really like to see is video of July 12, 1990 RFK Stadium. The pouring rain amidst the light show, not to mention the best late Dark Star, would be a trip.
The Tinley Park shows were a bummer logistically. They were in no way prepared for us Deadheads. Traffic management was totally fucked. I was glad when they decided not to go back there...Or was it that they weren't invited back? In any event, Alpìne Valley was soooo much better a venue. Deer Creek was very fun too (except for the kids that got killed there one year). To tell the truth...........I've never seen a good show at Tinley Park
Though I also have to say late 80s stadium era Dead didn't do them justice. 70s era Dead in small venues and just being younger/more creative etc is where it's at.
I remember a few shows that summer of 90 and looking at close ups of Brent on the screens and seeing his eyes how wasted he clearly was. Though 89 to 90 they were IMO having their last hey day and everyone kind of didn't take it too serious since they were playing so well. Sad now 22 years later, Brent dying was where they kind of fizzled out for me. Hornsby added some new energy for a bit but that was about it for me at least.
victim or the crime took a lot of heat from the heads, but I have always LOVED the song. it's Bobby to the core....different, technically strange, and a song that will stick in your head all day long. it's also lyrically incredible. often wondered if it was a shot at Jerry's dependency issues as well
i used to have this show on tape it was always fucking scary to hear how brent pushed that night and to know he would be gone right after he must have been truly tormented by something to have this kind of release good to hear it again
so sad to see brent leave, i was at this show and he was really wasted.played great but the mood of the band was a bit dark. nonetheless the band was never the same and their best years were behind them in my opinion
was at this show, thought it sucked at the time, after seeing it I still do. I loved Brent, it's sad that he went out with such a lame show. The best part of the show was Never Trust in the first set though, so at least that was appropriate. I'll never forget the overwhelming sense of "the Dead will never play at this shithole again" that everyone felt after this concert. Too bad it got overshadowed shortly thereafter.
Was at this show. Wicked memories and good times - despite the venue. Sorry, but Tinley was a tad too generic. Although, any Dead show is a great Dead show.
SDB quality fo sho. Any way to find this vid in its true (4:3) aspect ratio? The 16:9 stretched out kinda kills my buzz.
24:30 ...look into Brent's eyes and tell me thats not a man hours away from joining the cosmic GD keyboard club on the other side!! intense....killer set!!
I saw all three shows from this weekend (plus Areosmith the night before, same venue)! Hard to believe Brent OD'd less than 24 hours after this fun Sunday set. Bittersweet memories.
