  • Hmm what if it was rescued or something? We need to know the full story before coming to any rash conclusions.

  • Who's that pokémon??

    It's Alomomola!

Also, I feel who ever's in charge of this aquarium should be punched in the face and forced to give that beautiful fish a bigger tank!

  • Is the tank that size at 0:02???

  • i wish they defended poor kids dying of hunger in africa as they do these fishes who giv very little crap about humans

  • These fish are very intelligent and have higher psychological requirements than just a goldfish or guppy. They need other fish and objects in their tank to interact with. It must be pure torture swimming around in a confined space all day with nothing to do.

  • I want to hunt down the loser who thought of keeping such a large and demanding animal in such a tiny space and punch them in the face.

  • Well I suppose he can still dream about being back in the vast endless oceans.

  • FREE Mr.MOLA MOLA!

  • poor mola mola

i hope thad they let him free

but i dont think so :'(

  • how would be if a group of aliens conquer earth and build human zoo's to show us as we do with our creatures?

  • Except what kind of environment would they put us in, since we do provide the animals in our zoos with their needs. I'm guessing the homeless and unemployed wouldn't mind the life, if the aliens provided them with our daily needs: t.v, sports, education, food, junk food, and everyones favorite, mating.

  • oversensitive prudes....there's a couple more in the ocean

  • lonley

  • free mola

  • It's true that Mola-mola live alone, but they're like whales, and they migrate vast distances in their lives: they also interact naturally with so many different species of fish when they swim from the depths to warm themselves and get clean...I think its really tragic people keep taking migratory creatures and confining them. It's like the proposal by the japanese casino to capture a whale shark and keep it captive-those fish migrate thousands of miles a year and they want to lock it up? WHY?!

  • Agreed. At least in bigger tanks they can swim around a bit...this is just sad...

  • @LlamaMinion um well more than one aquarium has had captive whale sharks for a while

  • can i have some chips with that plz

  • :( sad

  • Lonely fish

  • what a wierd fish!!

  • Man its an aquarium. How come no one complains at all about the THOUSANDS of other fish in aquariums in the REST of the planet!?

Put "lonely" in the comment box, and watch peoples hearts cry!

  • Japanese people should be put in an aquarium and their habits studied. I don't think they would last long, but fortunately there are plenty.

  • Aww poor thing :(

At least he has another one to be his friend :)

  • i know i know..... but it gives us, humans, the oppurtunity to study and experiance this amazing creature .

  • Saw him just two days ago at the kaiyukan myself. Don't worry about him being lonely now, he has another sunfish as company, and several friendly octopus as well. They were feeding them when I was there, and apparently they're fed regularly.

I do feel bad for them and their tiny cage though. Then again, maybe the Japanese don't feel so bad because they live in tiny places themselves. Fish aren't people though!

  • ohh poor fish.. i love mola mola.. it's very gentle..

  • Poor critter, probably starving to death before your eyes. They require large amounts of jelly fish, don't see any in that small cage. Some of you people will feel sorry for a fish, yet, will allow infanticide, (abortion), unabashed and no second thoughts. The lesson here, man has no place in the world, yet the bug's and bunnies do.

  • AMEN!

  • I agree with you about the animal cruelty part; the aquarium is much too small. But I do think they feed him jellyfish on a regular basis and don;t include them in the tank for the sake of a clearer display. And, for the record, man has equal place in the world with its fellow animals and we should respect them as much as we respect ourselves.

  • Are you one of those fucked up weirdos who belives you cannot have sex unless your willing to have babies or something? cause then u suck!!!!

    Greetz From Holland;)

  • Wow, are all people in Holland this bitter and confused? It is obvious your upbringing and education has not taught you to value human life. Poor bitter miserable person.

  • is their face supposed to be all smooshed like that, or is it just from the poor thing getting so close to the glass all the time?

  • What were they thinking?? This is the largest bony fish in the world and it deserves at least 100x the space of this tiny tank if it is to be displayed at a museum. And have a much larger and open museum space several stories high to counter the "where is it?"- effect that the visitors so eagerely crave

  • Wow its so amazing!!

  • the sunfish is an open ocean fish which requires alo of room, to put it in such a small space is unnatural and cruel...but please people, let us not resort to racism because of this...

  • What a surprise, Japanese keeping a 2 meter diameter sunfish in a tiny tank like that. What a disgusting, short sighted, arrogant race of people they are. Why do they have such little regard for conservation? Why do they have no concept of what animal rights are?

  • AGREED.... 100%.

Absolutely disgusting, appalling, thoughtless. That poor animal. HOW can people be so stupid and cruel?!?!

  • Man people like you need a reality check. ITS A FISH.

  • no, you need the reality check. even though you are a galloping microcephalic, you would still not want to be confined in such small quarters. the level of unconsciousness is staggering. well what comes around goes around. i hope in your next life you come back as that creature in the tank that is "JUST A FISH."

  • Could care less because if I'm reborn as a fish I doubt I would think about anything other then shitting eatting and sex. So nice come back try again later. Oh and yes I live in a tiny confined area and I'm fine so again nice try :). I think that fishes tank is bigger then what I'm in.

  • boo.hoo

  • Oooh and your such a good person. It's a animal do you really think it cares? All it cares about is food shiting and sex. Stop putting your feelings on it.

  • Interesting to read Monkerr's profile. Under "interests and hobbies", this pindick has put, "Being and acting stupid....plus games :)". What a whacky zaney funster you must be Monkerr. what a pindick!

  • Oh how did you know I posted my real HOBBIES, oh I forgot youtube is where I place my life story. I FORGOT! Please speak english next time.

  • With comments like yours, you must be generation "y". As in why do you exist, you munted little cretin. "Please speak english next time", this little pindick doesn't even know his own language. Probably too busy playing games. What hope have we got we pasty, useless dweebs like Monkerr. God help us!

  • When you learn english talk to me. You talk like some idiot with something wrong with their brain.

  • Ha, you really are stupid. You bore me little boy. I have lost interest in abusing you. You obviously don't have enough intelligence to know when you are being insulted. Play some Mario Kart loser and learn about animal rights instead of playing games with likeminded generation "y" ers. Loser.

  • Oh sorry I don't let losers hurt my feelings good try though you can say anything to me and I wouldn't care why should I? You know nothing about me, and don't act like you never touched a game idiot. Fucking hypicrit.

  • Excellent grammar Monkerr. Once again confirming your age. Another loser generation "y". Study hard at school little boy and one day you might even be able to spell and punctuate properly. Gosh, you might even get a job washing lettuces at McDonalds.

One more thing before I go. I notice that you have changed your hobbies. Why would you bother to change your hobbies if they are ficticious or not the hobbies you really pursue as you alluded to in one of your pathetic little raves?

  • Nice insults, I see nothing wrong with my grammer. I changed my hobbies because I'm starting to make serious videos, but nice try there. I have no reason to pretend on some video site about who I am, and you insults are that of a 10 year old. So grow and act like a man/woman. The Mcdonald insult is yet another lame one.

  • Do you even have the balls to tell them that they're losers? I don't think so. For all I know your some fat ass with no job no education, nothing, but your acting like your some big shot. Even if you went to a university I bet you didn't even pay for it, you got mommy and daddy to. So what do you have to feel proud about? Anyways I'm tired of talking about shit with some ass that thinks to much of themself. Sorry ccked for this bull shit.

  • Fair enough Monkerr.

    1) "eatting" Eating.

    2) "I see nothing wrong with my grammer". Grammar.

    3) "hypicrit". Hypocrite

    4) "and you insults are that of a 10 year old". Your.

    5) "with no job no education, nothing, but your..." with no job, no education....

    6) "Sorry ccked for this bull shit" ??? Don't even know what you were trying to say there, but nice chatting with you.

  • when your text is size 6 its hard to see your mistakes :) You say you don't know what I was saying yet you correct it, dumbass.

  • Poor guy; the mola mola needs more space. It looks sad. :(

  • that poor poor mola mola... :(

  • its sad wat they do to them :(

  • i wish i could help it :(

  • Aww i love the ocean sunfish, but thats so cruel to stuff the poor fish into a lonely tank like that and expect it to adapt it's habitat inside a little tank like that!

  • that sunfish is fucking cutteeeeee, but some bumbasses dont have any common sense.

so fuck. hey dont get mad at the japs, china does 100x worse. Do your research. that sunfish is soooo cute!

    i wanna take it!

  • those freakin japs!!!we kicked their asses on pearl harbor an the take it out on some poor fish? at least give it a mate so it can grow kids or a bigger tank without some other friends or seaworld?!

  • typical japanese and their fetish for torturing animals. nuke the fuckers to hell

  • i h8 those things i was in the ocean and it sukked on my foot and i still think that tank is cruel

  • it sucked yo foot that must feel friggin nasty

  • It needs more room to move around. That's just cruel.

  • my friend just back from the aquarium last week, she told me that there are now THREE mola mola in the tank, one big two small. Oh my god, the tank is even worse than before.

  • how terrible :'( the poor things.

  • :( that poor thing

    its in horrible shape :(

    GIVE IT SOME FREEDOM!

  • Thr was a really good vid of this fish and other really rare ocean footage but sum mofo blocked it, it pissed me off so much notometion the music that played along went perfectly with it

  • Aww poor thing is in a WAY to small area. and it's gonna grow about 3-4x that size. plus it doesn't look really healthy. =[

  • isn't that mahi mahi?

  • mahi mahi is dolphin.

    that's mola mola.

  • make sure you say what kind of dolphin next time, several types, mahi mahi isn't the kind we see people swimming with

  • @fuzznow2 no, mahi mahi is mahi mahi

  • big ass fish ! =x

  • aaww they r soooo cute

  • lovely creature!

  • the mola mola is one of my favorite fish to look at, my favorite food fish is salmon.

  • it really sees us when video-taping, seems trying to communicate with us.

  • @ccked yah, it's saying, "put me in a bigger tank!" XD

  • @fireprofan have you tried pompano, it tastes better

  • I like it that you think the tank is to small to .. usually people who place this sort of movies think it is just normal but i really think its cool you do think the tank is too small.. if i was there i would sure have asked why he is put in such a small tank but oh well.. we can't do anything about it.

  • awsome nature

  • yes. an eye-catching fish

  • Reminds me of the movie alien...

    Kill...me....

    lol

  • our nature is so wonderful, right?

  • I am perplexed as to how you can condone the so called whaling research yet reading your comments from 5 & 8 mths ago you sound like you have a love for the sea, some real compassion. We have little else to gain/learn from this practice.

  • yes, i do love the sea, the mountain and the forest. human is just one of the species in our nature, right? i hope one day, all of us can find a balance between human practice and the nature.

    thanks for your comments.

  • shouldnt that be in a much larger aquarium?

  • actually, the aquarium is really big, with lots of spices! yet, the tank for this mola mola is so small... very sad.

  • Dumb Asian counties those chinease or Japan people eat those mola Molas. Its like they dont have anything else to eat sxcept rare species of fish.

  • i dunno the eating habits of japanese, but i'm sure chinese don't eat mola mola...

and, be gentle and considerate to others, leaving pointless comment is dumb too~

  • He's got a point. Japan has just announced that it will begin hunting Humpback whales again. And all under the guise of "research".

PROTECTED. And the Sun Fish is a delicacy in some culture's. Love Japanese cars but hate their fishing habits. TRADITION CAN BE DESTUCTIVE.

  • don't make this too political, relax~

human are human-centered! we think of ourselves in the first priority, just like the way we use fusel energy, even it pollutes. i'm not on the japanese side, but respecting other nation's tradition is important too. think positive, one day this creative nation will come up something invaluable from the on-going research. :)

  • Calling it research doesn't make it research.

The fact is that the Humpback is a protected species. No if's, No but's.

Did you know the Japanese have been found to repeatedly exceed (illegaly) their quota for tuna catch.

And they are not to keen to let international inspectors on their fishing boats (ships).

Not to mention the cruel way they are caught

  • my intention of posting this mola mola video is to show how wonderful our world is. i love lots of animals, including mola mola. it's so special!

debating between us is useless, as nothing can be changed on the catching and eating practice. luckily, japanese don't eat mola mola.

  • messed up. all those asian countries are so messed up to animals.

  • oh wow...its just amazing :O soo cute hehe. i love the way its fins move :)

  • i think it looks like those stealthy planes

  • amazing, seems like it was studying the people as it swam toward them.

  • That's because the tank is too small for it to turn around.

  • SUNFISH SUNFISH NOM NOM NOM

  • oh isnt that a beautiful exemplar of the amazing creatures we are living with in this earth! TOGETHER in harmony with!

  • totally agree

  • definitely the dumbest looking fish in existence. too bad they arent good eating. :(

  • Yes, the mola mola can happily cohabit an aquarium with other open water fish, such as tuna and sharks (e.g. hammerhead). This one in the video is definitely space constrained.

  • In other aquarium, can mola mola live with other ocean creatures?? It looks no harm to others... right?

  • Poor sweet mola mola. I saw the one at the Monterey Bay Aquarium that got so huge by late 1998 that it had to be airlifted out of the million-gallon tank in order to set it free. NatGeo featured a small picture of and a paragraph about the event in its November 1998 issue, if I recall correctly (personally, I think it merited an entire article).

  • Whoever put this beautiful creature in such a tiny tank should get AXED!!! It's like a box! she can barely swim freely!!! Poor mola mola =(

  • the Monterey Bay Aquarium was so much better at providing a large environment for their Molas. When I saw them I decided what my favorite fish is. I sat there for at least an hour watching them. = D

But this tank really is waaaay too small. And that does look like one lonely and sad Mola. When it bumped up against the glass, I could even see the fused teeth. And those eyes look like they're saying something. Quite beautiful eyes, if you ask me.

  • Oh yes. When I was watching it, it watched me back directly, and swam slowly towards me... i just feel it wanted to say something. The feeling was quite strange, when a sea creature like mola mola, have something to say...

Till now, the feeling is still here. Seeing is believing, go and visit it in person.

  • Third, molas harbor more dermal parasites than any other marine creature. In order to deal with these parasites, molas sometimes surface and breach to shake them off their bodies. Also, they often "bask," or rise sideways to the surface to allow ocean birds to clean them.

I'm not exactly sure how a mola would tolerate this particular form of captivity, but my guess is it would become very unhealthy after a time.

  • A few things: first, an average Mola Mola is 6' long by 11' high. The tank here would be much too small for an adult mola, that is, unless the caretakers chose to feed it poorly in order to stunt its growth and thereby allow it to continue living in the same tank.

Second, molas, particularly juveniles, have been observed socializing and gathering in schools, something this mola will not be able to do in captivity.

  • I think most of us here agree that the tank is too small. And no other kind of fish are put together with it.

My guess is, would it be a procedure to isolate and observe its condition before letting it to live with other spicies? This mola mola may be just came from the sea, and it takes some time to adapt this new living enviroment...

  • yeah, i saw one at the monterey bay aquariam.

  • I think Mola Mo;a needs a bigger tank =(

  • oh yes, the tank is quite small for it.

  • Manbou! This is one of my favorite fishes. I'd rather it have a large tank and not getting to see it as much than it being stuck inside this thing.

  • There's one of those at the Monterey Bay aquarium, but the tank is so huge it hardly ever comes forward. Even when it does, it's never that close to the glass. Pretty neat, but it must be kinda lonely. Onely a couple other fish, that I saw.

  • big aquarium, rare fish

  • the people at this meuseam should be ashamed ogf themseves butholes free the animals or give it a pool 100 times bigger

  • Now don't be ridiculous that is just the color around their eyes and mouth. Fish have tiny brains as long as the water clena, food is good, plenty of space, not too many predators, and a mate they are content. This is much kinder than nature.

  • um. i don't see "plenty of space" in the video... it's something this fish needs.

  • i see them all the time in the ocean. poor mola doesn't look to healthy. its mouth and around the eyes looks bruised from bumping into the glass.

  • This is a weird fish! I like it! As far as I heard it is huge. Like a huge Pancake!

  • Oh yes, I was attracted by its big eyes. When it looked at me, it seems that the fish is thinking something, trying to talk to you. Poor mola mola.

  • Yes, I felt pitty for this mola mola in the video, too. He is trapped in this small pool. :-(
