A couple of points. Canada is in Afghanistan, not Iraq, so oil plays not part. The relatively small natural gas pockets in Afghanistan can barely be protected and the "pipeline" everyone points to can't be built for fear of terrorist attack. Unless there are extra security clearances or having to get a "SPECIALIST" report, hassling the CFRC day in/day out (like actually showing up and constantly asking/simply phoning them) will get you in quicker. I work in recruiting at my regiment and have seen some 'horror' stories i.e delays upon delays for a missing restaurant address from a high-school part time job or extra specialist reports for a fractured wrist that occured when the applicant was a kid (even having no problems ever since)
well, the only way you get in quicker is if you hassle them. A MCpl in Borden doesn't care about some lowly applicant in Montreal and his optometrist's report ... apparently only a 'specialist' in Borden has the qualifications to 'look over' an optometrist's eye-exam ... it's all about paperwork ! Much of the 'waiting times' is due to technicalities ie not putting an address of a previous work experience or due to some fat-ass lazy Cpl or Sgt not caring about the pile of applications on a desk
It took me about 8 months to get into the forces, but upon finalization of the process i asked why it took so long. They simply said we don't want just any moron. They said were not the US we don't train just any idiot who can carry a gun. Thats why it takes so long

@walkertexasranger33 the best advice i can give you is too just read the question's thoroughly and be truthful with questions asked to you. The interviewer i had was very easy going and asked very straight forward questions, just answer to best of your ability. I went into the artillery which i thoroughly enjoyed lots of team work, and lots of field work. I opted out after 5 years though to persue a career as a paramedic in the civilian world, but I value my time in the military.
@walkertexasranger33 but for you do what you think would be best remember you can always change your trade. Just research what trades are available and get your basic done and go from there. Good advice though is to just hit the ground running and don't look back

@walkertexasranger33 best advice I can give is too take your time and read the questions thoroughly, and ask questions if you have any they have some ppl there that will answer your questions as best they can. It is not an overly hard test if you just read the questions through, but you have time limits on the sections and they are reasonable....the math questions were very straight forward I found nothing to complicated

Have you ever served overseas or worked with the yanks? Well I have and they have tonnes of combat experience. The average American soldier has done 4 tours that double our tours in length. They have a 13 week basic and a 14 week trade course, almost exactly like us. We listen to the Americans when they have information to pass on regarding combat, but you wouldn't know about that. A couple of points. Canada is in Afghanistan, not Iraq, so oil plays not part. The relatively small natural gas pockets in Afghanistan can barely be protected and the "pipeline" everyone points to can't be built for fear of terrorist attack. Canada is in Afghanistan (for right or wrong) because we are a signatory to the NATO conventions which bind us to come to the aid of a fellow NATO member. The USA was attacked, and unfortunately, Afghanistan was the only suitable target.

Unless there are extra security clearances or having to get a "SPECIALIST" report, hassling the CFRC day in/day out (like actually showing up and constantly asking/simply phoning them) will get you in quicker. I work in recruiting at my regiment and have seen some 'horror' stories i.e delays upon delays for a missing restaurant address from a high-school part time job or extra specialist reports for a fractured wrist that occured when the applicant was a kid (even having no problems ever since)

well, the only way you get in quicker is if you hassle them. A MCpl in Borden doesn't care about some lowly applicant in Montreal and his optometrist's report ... apparently only a 'specialist' in Borden has the qualifications to 'look over' an optometrist's eye-exam ... it's all about paperwork ! Much of the 'waiting times' is due to technicalities ie not putting an address of a previous work experience or due to some fat-ass lazy Cpl or Sgt not caring about the pile of applications on a desk

The interviewer i had was very easy going and asked very straight forward questions, just answer to best of your ability. I went into the artillery which i thoroughly enjoyed lots of team work, and lots of field work. I opted out after 5 years though to persue a career as a paramedic in the civilian world, but I value my time in the military.

@walkertexasranger33 but for you do what you think would be best remember you can always change your trade. Just research what trades are available and get your basic done and go from there. Good advice though is to just hit the ground running and don't look back

@walkertexasranger33 best advice I can give is too take your time and read the questions thoroughly, and ask questions if you have any they have some ppl there that will answer your questions as best they can. It is not an overly hard test if you just read the questions through, but you have time limits on the sections and they are reasonable....the math questions were very straight forward I found nothing to complicated

When you have recruiters going up to pretty much anyone on the street and asking them to sign up for the military, ads literally everywhere, that implies to me that they will train anyone to fight in their military. You think if the government deemed these people smart or useful that they'd throw them a gun and send them off to die? Use whatever IQ you actually have to think that one through. Just because people go to college doesn't mean they aren't retarded. Especially in the US. In college you take a bunch of minors, some academic and then you major in something. And no. Wages here are about 8-12 minimum. KFC in town pays $11 dollars an hour to flip patties. That's $10.76 according to XE right now. I really highly doubt any fast food place in the US pays that much.
