They had an issue and voluntary recalled it. however when it's over and over, and there's no Improvement like GM and Chrysler has been showing for the past twenty years, then you start to realize.Some Toyota's are made more in the US than any of the big 3. And Toyota has a reputation for quality. As well as the other Japanese brands.

@390merc65 Okay buddy, do you honestly know how many recalls the big 3 has each year?!? more so GM and Chrysler. GM recalled over 1.5 million vehicles for electronic steering to fail and lose steering. Again this was a "real issue" not something "unidentifiable" like Toyota's accelerator issue was. And when the big 3 get's parts from another place, which most of their factories are in Mexico it's "foreign" Toyota uses American parts, and at least you're getting a reliable product and a US job.

And if they can continue that kind of quality and dependability, while still creating FAIR paying jobs in the US then that's even better. @390merc65 If my GM products would run like they were intended too, i wouldn't be making a fuss, or wasting my hard earned money and time fixing them. And I don't think a blown head gasket in a 08 Impala at 102k is blowing anything out of proportion, or ball joints at 104k. My 06 Chevy Malibu, the transmission went out at 87k, and on top of numerous electrical problems. on top of rattles and squeaks since new. Yet my Toyota 4Runner has 335k in the garage, runs great. But I am just done with GM.

They cant keep up with the Tundras 4.30 Rear ratio, because their 4 speed tranny can only handle a 4.10 Ratio. You can have all the power in the world. If you cant get it to the ground. You cant do anything with it. And for clarification. only 1% of F150's can actually tow that 11k lbs. And you wouldnt drive it on a daily basis.

Gotta love these ridiculous Toyota Tundra commercials haha. The guy's voice that is talking is so overdone, to sound tough and hardcore, like a true "trucker". Then add in one of Toyota's selling points for this truck, trying to gain market by attracting the "bigger is better" crowd; by making the body paneling extra thick to give the truck an overly-done ugly bulky look. Gives them a great ego boost. Too bad the Tundra has been proven to be a sub-standard truck functionality wise.

@390merc65 No because after 6 years you're lucky if a Chrysler product would still start up and run. Toyota is a great manufacturer and recalling isn't a bad thing. They had an issue and voluntary recalled it. however when it's over and over, and there's no Improvement like GM and Chrysler has been showing for the past twenty years, then you start to realize.Some Toyota's are made more in the US than any of the big 3. And Toyota has a reputation for quality. As well as the other Japanese brands.

@390merc65 Okay buddy, do you honestly know how many recalls the big 3 has each year?!? more so GM and Chrysler. GM recalled over 1.5 million vehicles for electronic steering to fail and lose steering. Again this was a "real issue" not something "unidentifiable" like Toyota's accelerator issue was. And when the big 3 get's parts from another place, which most of their factories are in Mexico it's "foreign" Toyota uses American parts, and at least you're getting a reliable product and a US job.

But still there wasn't enough information and proof for Toyota to correct this. But I agree they should have acted sooner. When someone like Toyota has a recall even for something "unidentifiable", It goes huge because of there clean reputation. If so why doesn't the driver know what neutral is!

And again if such a thing was occurring, why only in Toyota's when the rest of the manufacturers use the same "throttle by wire system" Ford shared the US MADE PART. Every company has their faults but it's how well they solve those issues, GM and Chrysler has indeed one of the worse reputations in the past twenty years. You always see their recalls on TV, because they couldn't get something right in the first place.

And if they can continue that kind of quality and dependability, while still creating FAIR paying jobs in the US then that's even better. No need to pay an assembly union job doctor wages and ship the parts to Mexico, which are made as cheap as possible, and you end up with a unreliable piece of crap.

@390merc65 If my GM products would run like they were intended too, i wouldn't be making a fuss, or wasting my hard earned money and time fixing them. And I don't think a blown head gasket in a 08 Impala at 102k is blowing anything out of proportion, or ball joints at 104k. My 06 Chevy Malibu, the transmission went out at 87k, and on top of numerous electrical problems. on top of rattles and squeaks since new. Yet my Toyota 4Runner has 335k in the garage, runs great. But I am just done with GM.

GM still sends everything to Mexico to make a quick, cheap buck. And it's called GNP. Become a shareholder of the company, simple as that. Jeff my info is tow ratings, safety features and engine comparisons. Your info is that Toyota has the biggest cab configuration available so therefore they copied whoever used to have the biggest cab configuration. Seems to me your point is rather useless while mine both makes sense and pertains to the truck capabilities.

You act as if no one buys Reg cab trucks. Which is where Ford tows more and blows the Tundra out of the water in hauling. Sure your rear end crash rating is better but I'm more worried about a front crash which the Tundra only got 4 stars in. The 5.4 is a dated engine so please, give it respect for being able to compete against a brand new engine.

Jeff2422, The Ford is a great truck. There's a reason they've been #1 forever in the 1/2 ton segment. Unfortunately now they are struggling. They cant keep up with the Tundras 4.30 Rear ratio, because their 4 speed tranny can only handle a 4.10 Ratio. You can have all the power in the world. If you cant get it to the ground. You cant do anything with it. And for clarification. only 1% of F150's can actually tow that 11k lbs. And you wouldnt drive it on a daily basis.

No. I live where we have a few winter months, my ford truck is awesome Id hate to have the frame rust thru on it. yet you still think toyota is very reliable. it is rather comforting knowing that i can keep my truck for years to come and that i can drive down any road thru any weather condition.

lets see...the trucks that are affected by the rust problem are from the 80s. whould any detroit company do the same?? almost 20+ years later..they legaly didnt have to do it (witch cost toyota millions)
please, 10 years and 5 toyota trucks plus a new 08 tundra, i had only resived 2 recalls..on my 04 tundra (ball joint) and my 05 tundra but my truck was not affected so technacly only 1 recall.
i know quality and owning Fords in the 80s..some in the 90s i can say Ford fell wayy down

it was on autoblog earlier this year, toyota was extending the tacomas up to 15 years old. so the oldest ones would be 1993. 1992 and older owners are S.O.L. Ive never heard of a frame rusting thru on anything newer than early 80's if that and we have at least 3 salty months in northern ohio.
