Your comments are ..., but ..if we have a collapse of the present economy or a slide into oblivion? Either way, do not invest in gold at this time the price has been pushed to a very high value, which is easily dis valued if large amounts of gold are fed to the market. Shares, could/will be worthless. I would advise to invest in canned foods, vitamins, dried beans and anything else to see one through a collapse of the food supply chain. Forget about the monetary market, start investing in food.

You say to buy and hold gold/silver - well, what little money we have left is in our IRA's. It's value has gone down 30% in the last 6 mos... so would you recommend pulling that money out now - paying the 10% penalty - and reinvesting in precious metals? People need to make a mental shift away from focusing on gains, to investing for wealth preservation. Buy things that are liquid and that will preserve your purchasing power.

Forget about deflation. 8.5 trillion more dollars is NOT deflationary. Don't listen to Bob Prechter. He's been wrong more often than not. I think he was calling for sub $200 gold when it was $300.

Also look at what the masses are doing, and you can rest assured it is wrong. The masses are in dollars. Enough said.

@ Mephis. For inflation to properly expand the money supply - it must circulate. It get's deposited by customers and expanded by banks via lending. Banks however are not lending, bail-outs are directed to firms & not people. Each dollar withdrawn from the bank reduces the reserves of the bank and therefore contracts it's fractional expansion. Each default zero's out each subsequent SIV written on it. That's allot of deflation. Remember in Weimar the money was handed out to the people.
