They were being ruled by a faceless (to them) figure from across a massive expanse of water, and they felt that it was unfair for this ruler to impose any sort of tax when few benefits were coming back to them from overseas. Although I can somewhat understand where they were coming from on this point, I can only help but wonder how different life would be if we remained one nation.

american cars arent badly made, theyre made to drive on american highways which are normlly straight lines. european cars are made for more mountainous terrain which is more curves and handling than going fast. not one is better than the other theyre just made to adapt to their surroundings. seriously people get over it

Clarkson is so biased. Humber bridge opened in 1981, Golden Gate in 1937. It's celebrated for being a beauty and an engineering breakthrough for its time.
Also it was the longest suspension bridge for 27 years. Humber held that title for only 17 years.

The Humber Bridge was opened in the 1980's. The amazing thing about the Golden Gate Bridge that it was built with 1930's technology. And on one of the world's biggest earthquake faults. Plus the Humber bridge spans a river. Not a 350 meter deep corrosive salt water bay from the Pacific Ocean. LOL! If you are just going by length, try the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Virginia US. It's 37 km long. LOL! The Humber - How cute!
