I don't think it would be too hard for UK Gold (or G.O.L.D as it is now) to get these idents back, as most of the programmes they show have the same picture format. Indeed, interestingly, several times last year I noticed they kept the old UK Gold programme holding caption on when going into a break.
They seemed to have burned on captions to programmes with the 1997-2001 UK Gold logo on them, a case of bad editing more than anything. Little fact for you was the entire lot of UKTV's 1997 idents were filmed in 16:9, but were only ever shown in 4:3.
ON Digital used to opt out on adverts, in between programmes. They would break, and then all the adverts would be for ON Digital promotions. UK Gold, and Granada Plus were favourites for that.
@tigerboytony Out of interest, were there ever any mistakes when the various platforms opted out of adverts?
For example was there ever an occasion where they forgot to go back to the channel after the ad break or an occasion where they showed the adverts by mistake anyway?
Wave has bad opt ins too. our cartoon network has no credits sometimes for opt-ins. and Channel 21 is fairfield's publuic tv and is not even on most of the time!
Did you know that WMG have blocked the UK Gold closedown clip and necessary it was 'Crazy' by Seal and there is another 'Crazy' by Gnarls Barkley which is owned by the same company.
But not the Patsy Cline version which is owned by UMG and thats the reason you had to remove the UK Gold closedown clip which had half of the song.
I didn't know that, but at the risk of getting my account suspended again, I thought it would be sensible to take the clip off. I don't see why they can't do what Channel 4 do, claim copyright on the clip, but still allow you to have it here on YouTube.
What cable tv service did you have (what was it called before cable&wireless) as we had Videotron here in Southampton before it became Cable & Wireless, then NTL and so on. We have Sky and have done since March 2000. I notice in some of your clips that the tv guide you had was much different to the one Videotron showed.
We had Cable & Wireless, although we had it from when it was NYNEX. I would have thought all the Guides would have been the same tbh, but that was Regional cable for you, nothing was the same everywhere.
did cable & wireless turn into NTL then later NTL:TELEWEST? i dont know because only had analogue tv in the late 90s up until NTL:TELEWEST became virgin media 2 years ago then switched to cable.
Nearly, NTL bought Cable & Wireless, it became NTL in 2000, and then NTL:Telewest, although that was a trading name that didn't last long, before Virgin Media arrived 2 years ago.
There's a way to disable that DivX logo at the start of clips. I think you go to DivX Configuration, then the toolbar tab and uncheck the box 'Show DivX logo watermark'.
Cable & Wireless showed their own Channel guide at this time, although previously (as seen on other UKG clips) they've had Screenshop, I found it strange. They kept the guide on Gold overnight until it went 24 hours, even then they didn't change that straight away, like Top Up TV they would switch onto UK Gold mid-programme, but as I said it was resloved quickly.
ISTR Crossroads ended in UK Gold in 2000, probably during the Summer. Can't say about The Sullivans, although I think it had gone by the end of 98. With regards to The Bill, when we got Gold in Aug 97 they were on 93, I think at this point they might have been on 1996/97, although a couple of years after they went back to 1993. Same with Eastenders, they got to 1996 or so in 1998 and went back to 1985 and it hasn't got back since.
I do remember when I got UK Gold in November 2000, they were showing what were then fairly recent episodes episodes of The Bill. They were from some point between 1998-2000 as they had the updated version of the titles/theme tune. But I also remember that they went further back sometime during 2001
Did Crossroads and The Sullivans reach the final episodes on UK Gold?
I think The Bill went back to 1993, they never got any earlier for some reason. Again with The Sullivans I don't know if they reached the end, but they did with Crossroads, it remained binned off at 7.00am until the end, although I didn't watch it, the last time it was shown on Gold the episode was about 45 minutes long, which the last one was.
Virgin were still opting-out of adverts until last year or so. And still badly timed as well.

Hi.
I was wondering, do you have any of the continuity surrounding that day's episode of Neighbours
Meanmanmartin2007 2 years ago
Nope, I stopped the tape as soon as the clip ends.
steviegTVreturns 2 years ago
Thanks for explaining. Can you remember the date this was recorded?

Hi. Thanks for another great clip.
Do you happen to know the exact date for this clip?
Also, do you have any other clips of old UK Gold continuity- especially ones leading in/out of Neighbours.
Futhermore, how long did Crossroads air on the channel for? I thought it went after the 1997 relaunch.

Does anyone know how long Crossroads and The Sullivans were shown on this channel?
Also, I noticed that they said that there were "2 New To UK Gold episodes Of The Bill". Was this the first time that they showed the half hour era?

Once again, thanks for your help.
I wish I'd been able to take more notice of the channel back then. Crossroads had definatley gone by November 2000 when we got UK Gold
Meanmanmartin2007 2 years ago
Do you mind me asking something else, whenabouts did Crossroads get reduced to one showing a day? Was this after the 1997 relaunch.
Meanmanmartin2007 1 year ago
I think it was sometime before the 97 relaunch, although it got moved from 8am to 7am between the relaunch and this recording.
