This overture was not composed by Offenbach. It was composed by Carl Binder for the Vienna premiere. It doesn't appear in the first editions of offenbach's work

@ ledormant - wrong. Binder took the greatest melodies of this operetta and compiled an overture. He was only the arranger but not the composer! All melodies were composed by Offenbach!

Carl Binder used melodies by Offenbach to compile this overture but the Cancan was fully composed by Binder who was asked to give the overture a more "Parisian " atmosphere". The Cancan doesn't appear in the first French editions of the operetta. The violin solo was also composed by Binder. Offenbach is not the father of the two pieces. Offenbach had composed an overture for his work but it is now always replaced by that of Binder.
