@HaloSquirtle Halo 2 is the first time they were introduced in game, however in the halo universe they have been a part of the covenant since long before Reach ever occurred, they are used as shock troopers early on until late into the time scale of Halo 2 when they began to override the position of the Elites. According to Halo Wikia the Brutes joined the covenant in 2492, while the Fall of Reach occurred August 30th 2552. 2552 - 2492 = brutes joined 60 years prior to Reach falling.

You can still play firefight with friends or on your own, no need to ever go into matchmaking. Derankers? Thats what 'avoid' is for, besides, theres nothing to derank in firefight anyway. You can't lose cR and even if there is a skill-based matching component, deranking would just give you worse teammates in Firefight, to your own detriment.

The Brutes went down to present the Prophet's offer of peace and unity, for the Forerunner artifacts they believed Humans carried, which of course the ravenous Grunt decided to ruin by killing and trying to eat one of Johnson's trainees. That was more or less first contact.

Then shortly after, the Prophets declared the annihilation of humanity when they discovered the true meaning of the Forerunner signals.

@naruto6755 Actually they came out in Halo Wars which by story was before the first Halo.Also from what I read on Halo Waypoint once it said that Brutes were used in the war just not much.It wasn't until Halo 2,when they replaced the Elites due to Heretics so the Prophets made the change to have brutes be their reliability
